I don't mind spending a good chunk of change to make a print/photo/painting look extra special in a wonderful frame. You can go to Target and get a $20 frame, but you'd be doing your piece a disservice...unless you caved and purchased this hot little number: http://www.regretsy.co...
As a reference point, custom framing is going to start at around $70 for something small with non-glare and UV-coated glass. However, times are tight, and I desperately needed to frame a print for a friends wedding. After talking with the owner and discussing my budget, he got creative and dug up some sample frames he was shipped earlier that month. They happened to be the right size and right coloring, so he sold me those at a discount. Now I have a beautiful wedding gift on it's way to Rhode Island :)
Awesome customer service...discounts too for first time customers. I'll be back!

We couldn't be happier! My sister and brother in law sent us a fabulous housewarming gift. An original painting from one of my favorite Etsy artist! I was so ecstatic to have a new piece of original artwork to go in our first home. I wanted to make the piece a focal point and allow it to receive all the attention it deserves. Unfortunately, with the purchase of a new home comes some belt tightening. I had to skimp on the frame, as sad as it is I will admit, it came from Ikea. Don't judge.
Luckily, I knew the matting would make or break it, for this beautiful painting. It would make the difference between the painting that would be the center of the room or the painting that could have been amazing had it not been hung in a cheap Ikea frame.
Not to worry - my new next door neighbor Forte Framing and Gallery knew exactly what to recommend. I am an extremely indecisive person. I wish and wash back and forth between ideas - never really feeling completely content with the decision I decide to make. I took the painting and my cheap frame into Forte to see what they could offer. I braced myself. I was sure harsh ridicule would soon ensue due to the lousy frame.
What occurred was a pleasant surprise. It was the exact opposite. They didn't make me feel ashamed of my Ikea frame and they worked diligently with me in order to find the right matting. We spent quite a bit of time looking at various options. I wished and washed with my decision and ultimately took their advice. They told me that it would be approximately 2 weeks before the piece was ready, but they would notify me when it was complete.
I was extremely surprised when in less than a week and a half they called. My piece was ready to be picked up. My husband and I absolutely love it! It truly is perfect.
The owner has tremendous experience in art and framing. He takes his time with you - never in a rush - to find the perfect frame, matte and glass combination. And be sure to tell him if you're working on a tight budget so he help you stay within. I hope this wonderful addition to the West Bucktown area stays for many years to come.
Completely agree with all the other 5-star ratings. This place was fabulous. I worked with Jude to pick out my framing. He was great to work with and had tons of great ideas.
The finished piece is absolutely breathtaking - I almost cried when I saw it for the first time.
Their pricing was also very reasonable. I probably would have spent more at a big box framing place and been less satisfied with the finished product.
I would highly, highly recommend this store!
Really happy with Forte.
First of all, the owners are extremely nice and easy to talk to. Immediately you're at ease and in my experience that isn't always the case with frame shops because sometimes the staff can be a little pretentious.
Second, they do a great job helping to pick the right matte and frame for your photo / picture / artwork, etc. The owner (whose name I should really remember but can't) takes his time and goes through all the mattes and is very thoughtful about making sure the one you settle on is right for the piece.
Last, the product is very high quality. I was very happy with the artwork I had framed and plan on going back to Forte for my next piece.
It's a little pricey, but what frame shop isn't? But Forte does offer a first-time customer discount.
