My boyfriend and I came in on a Sunday morning after Yelping and Googling and Grouponing for a deal for brunch. Our prerequisites were affordable, deal, highly rated and someplace that could accomodate the fact that I am gluten intolerant. They do not have a dedicated gluten free brunch menu but many entrees can be made gluten free, or are naturally gluten free. I feel like we hit the jack pot with Blue Star!
The menu looked pretty great and I wanted to make sure I could definitely eat without getting sick so I called just to make sure. The server who picked up the phone didn't know for sure but checked with the kitchen. I love when people admit that they don't know and also offer to check with someone whe would- I can't tell you how many times I've asked someone just to make sure, explained myself/why, and then had somenody drop the ball.
We found parking pretty quickly, and right out front. Big brownie points. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the server. We were seated and took in the ambiance. It's a pretty cute place. I showed the Yelp deal and wasn't made to feel cheap (sometimes I feel like places roll their eyes at you).
We ordered the cheese plate with prosciutto, granola (for the boyfriend) and fresh fruit. The fruit was super fresh! I love when places don't skimp on the details. The cheese was awesome. We both picked the duck confit hash as an entree and lemme tell ya, it was divine. I love duck but I'm super picky with it- I'm crushed if you mess eith my favorite fowl and it sucks. This was perfect.
On top was a poached egg, which normally I find gross cause I don't like yolk, but mixed in, it was great.
I can't wait to go back, grouponyelpthingdeal or no grouponyelpthingdeal

Came here on a Living Social deal - 1 app, 2 entrees and a dessert for $40, which appeared to be a really great deal once we took a look at the menu.
Reservations and parking were a superb process, so we really wanted to love this place that was close to our neighborhood. There was a very talented gentleman there singing and playing the guitar - so it really added to the whole ambiance. Go there on a weekend night! We both chose one of their flights (the two last red ones on the menu) and found the wine to be pretty good with very different choices that suited the samples.
We ordered the Crostini (which was the best thing we had that night) and then had the tuna (I realize every time I order one how much more I like sushi) and hubby had the scallops. Appetizer was the best, but the 2 entrees were decent and HUGE portions. Dessert samples was pretty good as well.
Decided that we would come back here, but ONLY for some music, wine and a few apps. Not a fan of paying $30 for an average entree without a groupon, which never turns out to be that good of a deal in the first place :)
I hate writing 2 or 3 star reviews.. I kind of want to bash the place.. and then I want to praise it.. it's weird. but anyway..
We had a Living Social deal.. like many other reviewers, that gave us a small plate, 2 entrees and a dessert.
SMALL PLATE- We ordered the Goat Cheese Croquettes with Blueberry Honey Emulsion. These were FANTASTIC. absolutely delicious. I wanted to lick that blueberry honey sauce off my plate and steal my husbands half of Croquettes. Yes, they're that good. 5 stars.
OTHER- We both ordered soup. It was cold out and just seemed like the right thing to do. Hubby got the Tomato Basil and I got potato leek (or something like that) Tomato basil was good.. not great. and the potato basil was... eh. not much flavor. Could have done without.
ENTREES- My husband was a plain Jane and ordered the NY Strip... He said it was just OK.. not the best.. but unless you over/under cook it, you can't really mess up a steak TOO much.. He said he has had much, much better at places like Longhorn..
I ordered the skirt steak. I asked the waitress what was one of their bigger seller and that was what she went with. I ordered it.. medium. When I got it, I bit into it and it was so underdone it was still purple and cold throughout. it barely had a char on the outside. I couldn't even chew the piece in my mouth and spit it onto the plate. I told the waitress and she said would remake it. well, I finally get it back.. AND THERE IS THE SPIT UP PIECE OF STEAK!!!!!!! Um, isn't it a health code violation to recook off a plate that has already been given to the customer? That really turned me off... but I ate it anyway. It was OK. She also had a little bit of snootiness about her.. like she really dind't want to be there.
DESSERT- We ordered the nutella balls... fantastic. just super yummy.
The waitress was a bit weird. She didn't know about the wine,, which was odd since this is a wine bar. I asked her to pair a wine with my meal and she had to go look at the menu to see what was recommended. She also didn't let me know that the the glass of wine was 15 a glass.
So... the small plate and the dessert was amazing.. the entree.. not so much. I think they are expensive for what they are and I would never go back unless I had a deal.
My life has no purpose until I get another Goat Cheese Croquette with Blueberry Honey Emulsion.

Yes, I had a Living Social deal. Blue Star executed beautifully.
The voucher I purchased was $40 for one small plate, two entrees, one dessert. I made the reservation for 6:30 on a Friday night and we were seated promptly upon arrival.
I started reading the menu and realized this place is waaay classier than I had anticipated. I mean seriously, they have an appetizer of "Truffled Lobster - chilled wine poached lobster with truffle cream dressing, yellow pepper confit, arugula, truffled potato strings". Yeah. Fancy stuff. We ordered it.
Because the menu was so fancy, I was nervous that the voucher might apply only to a limited menu or somesuch. No dice. Anything on their menu, I was told, was fair game. Based on this, me and the boyfriend decided to go big. I ordered their tuna steak, he went with the scallops. Pretty much, we were ordering the priciest items.
The lobster appetizer was good and was also served with a surprising amount of lobster meat. As always, I was concerned that having a LS deal might affect service or food quality, and as usual I was pleasantly surprised to find this was not the case.
However, there is one tiny thing that bothered me and so I'm putting it here with the stipulation that if Blue Star fixes this, they will get a 5 star revised review from me: they kept serving us things of which there were only three. Why three? Three is frustrating to split, especially when they're balls of fried nutella or really crispy bread! Serve four or two but NOT THREE.
So the lobster and the dessert were hard to split, but I digress.
The scallops were amazing. We were served six humungo scallops on this creamy corn thing. That corn thing was amazing. I wish they would just make it a soup so I could eat it like a soup. Dee-lish.
I was skeptical of the scallops because they were so plentiful, so large, and so cheap-- but they were some of the best quality scallops I've ever tasted! I was tres impressed.
The real winner, though, was my tuna steak. It was perfection. The tuna was seared perfectly, well seasoned, served in this really light sauce with crispy leek. I mean, this thing was dreamy. Me and that tuna had a love connection, I'm telling you.
The nutella balls were better than expected and the marshmellow blackberry sauce they swim in was even more enlightening. Again, the nutella balls came as triplets, but they were pretty great.
Finally, since we went big we decided to go big on the drinks. I did the Tuscan wine flight and the 20 year old Tawny Port. If there is one thing you take away from this, it's that you should order that port. It's heavy like a delicious cinnamon-y, buttery syrup... with alcohol. I was pleased with the Port-Nutella balls combo and will likely do it again.
One more thing! The live music was nice. Spanish-style guitar. It make the whole experience extra date-y and cute. Mad props, brah.
