Review from Dustin D.
Victoria, BC
Zuma has been my gym for over 5 years now. I'd always wanted to train in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts - UFC style fighting). I found Zuma when I was looking for a gym in Victoria that had a qualified staff teaching what I considered the best balance of styles that interested me - Muay Thai kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I was pretty nervous going in to my first few classes, not knowing what the environment and the people would be like. I think i was more nervous for that than the training itself. I shouldn't have worried at all. Zuma is full of great people who are there to have fun training hard and help you out if you need. I felt welcome and comfortable in no time and haven't looked back. The classes are a fantastic workout (at my most dedicated i had dropped 30lbs.) with a really positive supportive vibe.
Zuma is also full of incredibly talented people. The owner/coach Adam Zugec is Vancouver Island's only black belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and he earned it with Marcus Soares (Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu), AKA it's a seriously legit black belt. More of Adam's history and training can be found here: http://www.zuma.tv/ind... . Zuma is also home to Sarah Kaufman, ex Strikeforce 135lb champion. She is currently one of the top ranked 135lb female fighters in the world with a 13-1-0 record and 10 wins by TKO or KO. Sarah runs the womens Muay Thai classes among others, be ready to sweat hard.
Zuma offers a well rounded set of classes. Beginner and advanced, men's or women's or co-ed, wrestling, full gi BJJ, Muay Thai kicboxing, MMA grappling, wrestling, competition training, etc.
Zuma is a high intensity, fun, professional, high level, welcoming, entertaining, supportive environment. I can't recommend it highly enough. If you've ever considered training in any of these disciplines, Zuma is the place to go. Nothing can make a rough day seem better than going to Zuma for an hour or two and giving your all, you can just feel the stresses disappear. They have a very informative website at http://www.zuma.tv - check it out.
