Fantastic old fashioned style burger joint. Super fresh, hand ground beef; Zippy's burgers melt in your mouth. Neat selection of off beat bottled sodas, and the best shakes I've had in Seattle, too.
The place has a ton of character; just a hole in the wall joint, but when you come in and hear the dingy punk rock music blaring from the kitchen, with all of the kitschy burger joint and Americana/pop culture memorabilia adorning the walls, and pinball and Pacman machines off to the side, you understand why theres a huge line of hungry people always queued up at the counter. -

This place rocks!
Tasty giant sized burgers with fries or tater tots and old fashion soda pop? Winner.
The sauce they use in their burgers is super tasty. I like going to this place when I'm in the White Center area and a burger is calling my name.
Parking can be a little challenging, but you could always park across the street at the CSO (welfare office) and walk across. Make sure you don't get towed thought. Haha. -

Old school burger joint. Get the #11... it's like a burger with philly spicy peppers on it. Anyhow, reminds me of a neighborhood burger place that still does things the old fashion way (grind the meat, high quality ingredients, classic sodas). If you're looking for a solid all-around burger, check this place out. Open early!
Similar to: Five Guys but better with local feel and lots of character. -

Woohoo! As good as it gets! (for a "fast food" burger) Fast, inexpensive, and amazing flavors. This is a destination burger joint. I will visit Zippy's every time I go back to Seattle.
As a side note; I purchased a Zippy's hoodie last sumer. They were out of my size so I took a rain check for the right size once it came in. I didnt leave any contact information and failed to have my receipt with me each time I visited over the next few months. Just days before moving to the east coast, I went to Zippy's to get a Burger and my Zippy's hoodie (again with no receipt). I get to the counter, order, hand over my card to pay, and before I say, "oh, btw wheres my hoodie, the gal behind the counter says, "are you the Dan that bought a hoodie but hasn't picked it up yet?" Well yes, that I am! Turns out, Zippys had been trying to track me down to give me my medium hoodie for a very long time.
Thanks Zippy's! -

I stopped here on the way to the DMV. I ordered a root beer and a No.11. They have a great root beer selection. The NO.11 burger was flavorful thanks to the peppers and chipotle mayo. Everything taste better with chipotle mayo. The only disappointments with this burger was the piece of tough cartilage I bit into. I had to spit it out cause I couldn't chew it. It may have been a fluke, but it definitely ruined my experience. I would have mentioned something to the manager but I was in a hurry. The breading was just okay. It seemed very generic (like Carl's Jr). Regardless, the flavor made up for this shortcomings.
I would definitely try this place again. If there is another piece of cartilage then I'm never coming back again.
PS. The cashier was VERY friendly and sweet =) -

We usually love the burgers here but tonight was a huge exception! After waiting over 20 minutes for our eagerly anticipated order, our burgers arrived so overdone they were almost inedible. The outside was charred and crunchy and the inside dry and colorless. Not sure if it was the bacon, but they were so salty I couldn't finish mine.
Sorry Zippys, it will be a long time before we give you another try! So disappointed. -

Great burgers all around. i've tried about half their menu and I look forward to going there again. Juicy, flavorful, and variety are just a few words to describe their burgers. Shakes!!!! Hell yes. This place isnt the healthiest place in the world, but what you trade in the health factor you gain in taste. (yes, I said it).
I also really like the retro decorations. You can order all sorts of glass bottle drinks if you feel the need to go old school. If you are wondering if you should go there or not.... just do it. You wont be disappointed. -

Can anything good come out of White Center? You'd better believe it can!!
I'm not sure how I went working in WC for over two years without ever knowing this place existed, but I did and it does. And it's amazing. Amazing. Probably Seattle's best kept secret, in my opinion. Did I mention that it's amazing?
I found myself with a serious hankering for a good burger today, and considering I was in the Pho and Terriyaki capital of Seattle, I didn't think the odds were very good of having that craving satisfied.
Anyone who knows anything knows that there is no greater disappointment than having a hunger for a certain, specific food, only to find it falling flat of your hopes and dreams and leaving you crying in the shower like someone who just missed the $100 question from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
I recently had such an occasion when I found myself shadowing my wife at Southcenter Mall on a recent shopping excursion and took a risk on a burger joint that will remain nameless (but I will tell you that it rhymes with "Bonnie Sprockets"), so the stakes were high. I had been burned once, and couldn't afford a repeat. I was still haunted by the tasteless gray patty with no seasoning or flavor whatsoever. It was horrific. Just horrific.
I stumbled across Zippy's here on Yelp and was tempted to just keep looking. I needed something safe. A sure thing. A home run in the bottom of the ninth. I was looking for some place within a reasonable driving distance. A place that rhymes with places like "Live Guys" or "Ricks". Heck, I was even ready for a place that rhymed with "Skidd Alley". Zippy's was an unknown. A risk. A wild card. Zippy's was the new kid in school eating by himself in the cafeteria. Quiet. Confident. Alone.
But no matter how I sorted the results, Zippy's kept coming up as the #1 option. Like a good ol' fashioned Hasbro toy, it weebled and wobbled but it wouldn't fall down. It was as if fate was calling my name. Or was it testing me?
I wish I could say I rose to the challenge with strength and confidence, ready to make that burger my prison-like-friend that rhymes with "witch"... but I was nervous. Tentative. Possibly even scared. With trepid uncertainty, I made my decision to commit. Zippy's it was.
I read some reviews that said the wait time was long, and I was trying to make this a quick lunch so I perused the menu on their website and decided to call ahead. I ordered the Zip Royale with bacon and made it a combo. "That'll be ready in 10 minutes," said the voice on the other end of the phone. By the time I got there, paid and got settled in my booth, it was probably closer to 12-15 minutes, but not bad. Definitely not the 20-30 minute wait I had read about (did someone actually say they waited 40 minutes? I can't remember).
On a side note, the inside of the restaurant may be the cleanest place I've ever come across in White Center. Very clean, very nicely decorated and it had a good "vibe".
When the burger came, it was like a piece of art. Half wrapped in paper, with just enough exposed that left little to your imagination, this thing was beautiful. Cheese evenly distributed across the two nicely formed, but completely natural patties. Lettuce and pickle batting their eyes "hello" and the bacon hanging off the edges looking up at me as if to say, "What's up?" It was hot enough to get it's own website, if not magazine. And while you're at it, give it a fragrance line and an inner city charity. (Hey, if the Kardashians can pull it off being trainwrecks like they are, why can't a burger?)
My first thought was, I need to take a picture of this. But I opted to try a bite first. Wrong move. I never put the burger back down. I should have gone with my first instinct. Oh well, guess I'll have to go back for more.
Zippy's claims the secret to their burger is the fresh ground beef that they actually grind every day. I have to agree, this is a great touch. I've had some good burgers before and you can definitely tell the difference between the ones who have been frozen or not, and having a fresh ground burger takes it up one more level.
To put their popularity in context, the booth next to me was occupied by 4 Microsofties who had driven all the way from Redmond specifically for these burgers, and before I left, another group from Bellevue came in as well. Sure, there was the obligatory guy in a cammo jacket in the corner, but this IS White Center after all.
The only, and I repeat, ONLY thing I could possibly have found wrong with the burger was that the tomatoes were not ripe. But it's March in Seattle, what should I expect, right? (Besides, if you ask my wife, I always complain about unripe tomatoes... I probably wouldn't know a ripe one if it slapped me in the face.)
Other than that, Zippy's raises the bar to a whole new level when it comes to the burger perfection. So much so, it has jogged my memory of any other great burger joints... In-N-Who? -
Review from Tim C.
The burger I tried (the Zippy burger) was pretty standard, and it was at a good price. It just took forever to get my food. And they didn't seem that busy at the time. I like their selection of hot sauces, though. Sriracha on a burger really does make it that much better.

Favorite burgers ever, great combinations and old school sodas.
I love that they finally moved to a larger location and now take credit/debit.

Nowhere have I ever had a better burger. Not something I consume regularly, but when the craving strikes, Zippy's cannot be beat! Not the greatest location but I go out of my way. You won't regret the bacon cheeseburger!

Review from Fatima G.
I remember my first trip to Zippy's (old location) - I was skeptical about any burger that took 30 minutes to get from order to in my mouth. I guess it was an off day because the burger was pretty awful, burnt on the outside and pretty rare on the inside. I'm not sure what convinced me to give it another try..okay, I know - it's my love of french fries and that "secret" sauce.
We've been going to Zippy's for over a couple of years and I'm convinced that this is pretty much the epitome of pure comfort food. The only reason I don't rate it more stars is because the service is so-so. One time we were there and they didn't answer their phone for the whole 40 minutes we were there. I glanced over at their phone to see that they had 88 messages. They really weren't THAT busy at the time either! They're also often closed due to random reasons like "we're out of buns", well dang...go get some more! I think they know they serve a pretty good burger and since they pretty much monopolize west seattle on the non-chain burger front - they aren't too concerned about losing customers. -

They ground the burgers out of steak every morning!! I was amazed to hear that one.

I have eaten here twice now. My 1st trip was to the original location and that was hands down the best fast food burger I ever encountered. Smoky, rich and moist, I was in Burger Heaven.
This time at the new location that flavor was gone. I left unsatisfied and disappointed. I really felt like I was paying for a legend that no longer existed. I have a friend who lives in white center and after we ate at the new location he mentioned that the burger was good, but far from great.
You never know, it could have been a bad day, but based on that experience, I couldn't see myself making the drive back there and will just chalk it all up to being overrated. -

Heard about this place from a co-worker. Finally ventured all the way out to West Seattle (about 9mi from home) . Hey, why would I go to that part of town anyway!?
Besides the super-long wait, about 15-20min for my order, the burgers were pretty good. I had the jimbo, which is the jalepeno burger. The patty was delicious/fresh, and the jalepenos with nice heat. But most of the heat came from the super raw red onions which wasn't that great of an experience.
Their fries were good wholesome natural cut fries. But their chocolate shake was less than desirable. I think Jack-in-the-Box and Dicks has way better shakes.
Found it interesting that the restaurant had no diversity whatsoever. It was about 6pm on a Saturday.
Overall, if I'm in the area, I'd stop by again, but given that I've been to West Seattle on average of once every 2-3 years, it will be unlikely to be soon. -

Ok this is the best burger I have had since I was a boy. I know everyone says this is a great place and there is a reason for that.... It is!. I had the Royal, a Chocolate Malt and Fries. Heaven. I drive 45 miles from Enumclaw as often as I can just for these burgers. EAT THEM!

Review from Edward N.
Probably one of the best burgers I've had in a while.
The burger is perfect, I had the regular Zippy burger, with cheese. Came with red onions, tomatoes, pickles, cheese, and a very juicy and flavorful beef patty. I think they use a thousand island sauce, instead of mayo, which is great. The fries were also very good, not soggy or overly oily, just crunchy enough and filling. Their are no soda fountains here, just bottles of cold soda. I like the Coke they have (they are the ones in a glass bottle with real sugar, with Spanish label). A combo of + fries and drink is just $3.25, so you can get a decent eats for just about Red Robin price, although this place is WAY better than what Red Robin could offer.
I thought I'd note that I came in on a Saturday afternoon, when it was PACKED. So, be prepared to wait when you come in, this is not fast food after all. They have some old arcade machines there and there is a counter with a ton of hot sauce. Overall, a great place to get a burger, relax and have some good eats. Would and will come again. -

Try the #11 it's quite delish!
The burgers would be 10 times better if the patty wasn't always overcooked, otherwise I have a lot of love for this burger joint! The shakes are tasty, but the fact that they serve tater tots are a plus! They're perfectly crisp, well seasoned and just delicious! -
Review from D.J. L.
One of the best burger places I've been to, as far as quality and taste. I ordered a No. 11 (No. 11 - Mama Lil's Kick Butt Peppers, smoky chipotle mayo, lettuce,
with monterey jack & smoked cheddar cheese.)
The burger was cooked to perfection, not too raw or overcooked. The smoky chipotle mayo and combination of cheeses made every little bite so juicy and flavorful. I wanted to try their shake too, but wasn't sure how filling their burger was so I held off this time around. I'm glad I did because the burger was just as they say "giant" and more than filling for me. -

Convenient location, really great service and good flavors.
We ordered the Zip Royale, Zip burger with bacon and cheese, onion rings and French fries. I really liked my bacon cheese burger, lots of bacon and super juicy. My boyfriend wasn't as excited but commented that the sauce reminded him of In & Out which is a definite plus. The only downside is that the meat quality or how it is prepped is a tad off in my opinion. We found chunks of chewy bits in the patties, which I don't mind too much but bothered him a lot.
The sides were crispy and freshly fried in clean oil. We finished the onion rings in the car before we even got home! :p
I would give it a try again since it's located so close to home, but it definitely won't keep me from trekking out to red mill or five guys. -

Whoa! Such a fun surprise to find a good vegetarian burger in West Seattle! Their black bean burgers are awesome- good texture, weight, and heartiness level. The fries are always cooked perfectly, it has a fun vintage vibe, and seems to be a good neighbor to other businesses. We'll definitely be coming back here for a simple burger and fry dinner when that craving strikes!
Their beer selection is awesome- with really good prices too! Icing on the cake was the awesome ska/punk music they had going- nothing better than rocking out to some Reel Big Fish while chowing down on delicious food. -

If you want a real burger go here, their new place is huge compared to the little spot before. They have a good variety of different style of hamburgers. What is really cool is You can now sit and relax and have an awesome burger with bottled drinks by yourself or friends without the crammed feeling and nice music.
Staff is really nice and finally it's not cash only anymore they accept cards which was a deciding factor for me to visit them before sometimes. The retro art memorabilia it's awesome with the other art on the walls for sale I think. The only thing that sucks is waiting for that tasty burger for take out, call a lil ahead so your mouth doesn't water for long. All sides are delicious as well. -

My boyfriend followed his nose here after getting his haircut, and was so happy with his lunch, he had to bring me back a few days later to try it. Um, this is where we will go for a good burger from now on, I've been ruined!
It was the best burger I've had in a restaurant, no joke! Especially for such a reasonable price. Charbroiled, beefy, juicy, tender and tasty! I had a Zip with cheese, since it was my first time there. I don't know how they did it, but the way they put the burgers together is perfect. It does not fall apart at all while you are eating it, a huge pet peeve of mine. Perfect toppings, nothing fancy. Cheese, shredded lettuce, onion, tomato and special sauce, all on a regular Kaiser roll, I believe. I didn't pay too close attention while I was stuffing my face.
Also, I think the fact that they grind the meat and make the parties fresh every day has a huge impact on how good the burgers are. They are tender and juicy, not those nasty preformed perfectly shaped things. The fries are also perfect, crispy and well seasoned, somewhere between skinny fries and steak fries for size. They have bottles of the secret sauce in the soda case, so you can add more to your burger or dip your fries or onion rings in it.
I love the variety of vintage sodas! I had the sarsaparilla, which is like root beer but with a little bite, great with my lunch. I can't wait to go back and try all the other burgers; the Great Dane and the #11 are at the top of my list for next time. I heard from a friend that the onion rings are good, so I'll have to try those as well. Can't wait!!
PS: You can't beat the price (under $20 bucks for 2 burgers, basket of fries and 2 sodas) for such a delicious and perfect burger, especially when you've had a $12 gourmet burger that totally sucked. (see my review of Mark Restaurant) -

CHEAP burgers for great quality! I went for the No. 5 1/2, and my friend got the Zippy the Yum Yum Wacky Meal (Zippy's version of McD's "Happy Meal"), and it was so filling!

My co-workers kept telling me how great Zippy's burgers were and I couldn't argue. A burger had to be good if my co-workers want to drive all the way from Bellevue to Seattle on lunch hour past other great burger places.
There is lots of old burger memorabilia on the walls. I was going to post a picture but it's better that people just go and see for themselves. I did post a picture of the gigantic fry sauce though.
I ordered the Zip burger with bacon and cheese, added an egg for $.75. I ate the entire thing. It was SOOOOO good!! The burger wasn't bland at all as some places can be. And It also seemed like the right amount of burger. Yeah I couldn't eat my fries, and I definitely didn't eat for hours after. But sitting in a cubicle after eating that entire burger wasn't as bad. Usually you get a good food coma after a huge burger but this one didn't.
I can't wait to go back. Totally worth the drive and that burger was delicious. And for $6.75? YES!!!
Zippy's just pushed another burger place out of my top 5. -

Zippy's Giant Burgers
Not bad at all. I was used to the So. California burgers like In N Out where the originial one popped near where I grew up. This restaurant offers chargrilled burgers, chicken, and bean burgers. You can pay $.25 to add extra veggies such as purple onions to your burger. They also have fries and onion rings. They don't have fountain drinks, but bottled soft beverages from a refrigerator that you can pull yourself. They also don't hae a drive thru and have limited seating inside. They were a little slow to delivering the food, but the food really felt like it was custom made and there were a lot of people in the restaurant waiting for their orders too.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back here again. Zippy's Giant Burger is not even near my neigbhorhood, but they do make satisfying burgers.
By the way, I have a young child that loved their kids wacky meal wihich included a cheese burger, capri fruit drink, and fries.
I wish they offered a chargrilled rib-eye steak sandwich....hint, hint, wish, wish..... -

One of the best burgers in town. I usually get the chicken burger and the black bean burger. The food most of the time is cooked in perfection. The price is affordable and the customer service is great. I would advise for those who never been to ZIppy's to call in for a to go order on the weekend, to avoid the long line.

My husband and I compare all burger joints to Zippy's! We will drive 40 mins just to get a burger. Meat is handmade and the ingredients are super fresh. I got the classic burger and it tasted homemade and the burger was huge! Definitely check this spot out - it's worth it. We are due a Zippy's run soon.

Solid burger place. Nothing to write home about though.
It's better than going to your typical fast food place* but I wouldn't list it as anywhere near the best burger I've ever had.
I agree with the other posters that said I would rather spend my money on five guys. ($8.50 for burger, fries, and drink)
*In n Out and five guys not counted as normal fast food places. -

The wife and I stopped in last weekend after reading the recent article in Seattle Magazine, and it was pretty great.
The space is pretty small and we had to ninja ourselves a booth even though we were there well after the lunch rush, but the employees were friendly and fast. I went with the No.11 burger with a side of onion rings, and my wife got a Zippy burger with fries. We both got chocolate shakes.
The No.11 was cooked nicely and pretty decently sized, and the flavors were great. The spicy mayo and peppers really complimented each other and the bun seemed very fresh. I wound up finishing my wife's Zippy burger, and it was good, but not great. It wasn't really bland, but after the No.11 it just didn't stack up.
Our shakes were fantastic. Great consistency and flavor, went really well with our burgers and the saltiness of our fries and onion rings. Speaking of which, the fries and onion rings are the reason I gave four stars instead of five. The batter on the rings just wasn't very crispy, sort of like they had been sitting out for a while. Same deal on the fries, just sort of luke-warm and almost soggy. Still pretty decent for the price and quantity, but I've definitely had better, -

Best burger joint in the Seattle area. Worth the drive to West Seattle.
No frills on this simple, straight-forward menu. The items are very affordable even though the attention to detail is high. The variety of specialty, classic bottled sodas is a treat. As for the burgers, the patties are juicy and flavorful and all of the toppings compliment the beef very well without stealing the show.
If you are a fan of spice, try the No. 11. -

I am so happy to be able to check off the "Good for Groups" box.
Zippy's has moved from Highland Park to White Center - ten or so blocks south from its old location - and is better than ever. I loved the fresh ground chuck burgers before, but now...damn.
The parking lot for the new location is just that: a full lot. For those of you that attempted to find parking at the old location, you know just how important that is. The interior is just like the old Zippy's, with old burger joint photos and paraphernalia on the wall, except that there's so much more dining space here that the walls aren't even half-filled. There's a pinball machine, a photobooth and tons of tables. They also take credit cards now.
On to the food. I had the Great Dane this go-round and my partner had the Jimbo. These are both menu items that are new to the location, and we both left with the exclamation that there were our New Favorite Menu Items Forever and Ever Amen.
The new Zippy's: cars are happier, credit cards are happier, customers are happier and even the wait staff seemed (much) happier.
Oh god, I almost forgot the most important part: get a malt. GET A MALT. Seriously. You won't regret it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

One of my tax clients told me to go here now for two years, so I did and I was pleased. I ordered the chicken sandwich because I do not eat cows, and it was delish, but definitely WAY too big for me to consume! The onion rings were great and I loved the special "sauce". Guess next time I will try the Black bean burger, but will share with another person.

Heard from some of my friends that this is the best place to go around the area. The prices are cheap and I like it that they have bottled drinks.
The burger itself was very good although not as amazing as I thought it would be.
Service was very fast and friendly. I would recommend this place for anyone. -

I finally had an opportunity to try the famous Zippy Burger this past week, and it was everything that I had hoped for!
These guys cook every burger to-order and the quality absolutely shines. The meat was flavorful and ample. The bacon was thick and had a little chewiness to it. The special sauce is pretty much what you get everywhere else, but combined with the superior ingredients--it is magic.
I love the feel of this place. It is a total throwback to the dawn of the drive-in burger. The walls pay tribute to the famous fast food chains of the past and present. They have hand dipped shakes and a variety of charming soda pops that you can't buy at a local Safeway.
I am very excited to come back to this local treasure, so I can try more of the menu options. Some of these burgers are just too good to be true and I must eat them just to remind myself that I am not dreaming! Zippy's=Awesome
