Zen Sushi & Grill is a Japanese restaurant located downtown near downtown/Grant MacEwan college. They have a daily sushi dinner buffet for $23.99 a person and on weekdays, sushi lunch buffet for $13.99 approximately. The dinner buffet has a bigger selection than the lunch but its not that big of a difference. I have always gone for just their buffet so cannot compare to when just ordering off the menu.
Their food is great but sometimes the wait time in between plates are long. The buffet works by you filling in a sheet of pre-listed items and writing down how many you want of each item. I noticed that they sometimes miss bringing out an item or two on the sheets.
They have dine-in rooms and tables for groups and at the back, they have a huge booth that fits 25+ people for parties. As well they have a small pond with live goldfish which makes for a nice environment. -

Will NOT return -
My friend and I went for all-you-can sushi for dinner. Sashimi was not fresh. Edamame was old and cold. food was incredibly sloooww. Misu soup was very salty. one of the waitress has a bitchy attitude. total comes to $30 which is way too overpriced for that kind of quality of food. -

This is our go to place for all you can eat Sushi. Love the food menu and friendly atmosphere from the waitresses. They give fair sized sashami (20 per person) and have an extensive menu. The restaurant is in a rough area but the restaurant itself is clean and well kept. We are always stuffed walking out of here. The sake and Japanese beers are great to wash it all down. Definitely worth checking out.

We will start with the all you can eat menu. I will touch the SHABU-SHABU part after. The all you can eat menu is differnt from lunch and dinner. The dinner menu has everything where the lunch menu has a few items not shown. This reason I am not sure.
They have great choices for variety cooked and non cooked items. Myself, I love eatting BBQ eel sushi, the cone they make is really tasty, i would highly recommend for people to try. Also the salmon skin. They do have the regular california rolls. There is a bit of everything for everyone from vegetarians to the adventurous type. Also there is teriyaki chicken and beef and other cooked items.
The Shabu-Shabu I would not recommend. Frozen items to cook in water is really not that appealing. Real Shabu shabu that I have tasted in California...big difference. I wouldn't recommend the SHABU SHABU.
Inside, it looks very nice with the private booths and tables and a small little pond inside which is a very different contrast to there location which not that great. Kind of a slummish area of Edmonton. -

Zen is a cozy sushi joint just north of downtown Edmonton. I visited Zen for the all-you-can-eat-sushi"deal for $20. The food was yummy and brought out very quickly. Although the choice of vegetables for tempura was questionable (green pepper?), the meal was delicious overall and a great selection of food for the cost! I would definitely visit again.

I have stopped in twice for the all you can eat dinner sushi buffet. The first time I went in it was on a weeknight, and this place as bumping. Last time we stopped in for a late night supper, after 9 on a Friday night. It was fairly empty as last call for sushi was about a half hour after we arrived. The all you can eat is buffet is a fun dining experience, it's fun to order a few of these and a few of those, it's an opportunity to sample. The menu is an okay size, though it would be nice to see a few other things and maybe some more variety in the rolls offered (I would have liked a yam roll, avacado roll, dynamite roll, etc). One thing we never skip is the teryaki beef, it's always lovely. Thin slices of beef and just the right amount of sauce. The tuna and salmon sashimi were also great. It's fun to order the sushi, the service is good, and even though it's not my first choice for sushi - I would likely go back for the experience.

ate the tempura which was disgusting and crazy greasy: also the love boat which was totally gross. 3 hours later had food poisoning and puked it all up!
