Now THIS is customer service. Much improved!!

    CASH REGISTER
I went to guy buy a shirt, got to the cash and she charged me full price. I vaguely remembered that the shirt was on sale.   This is how it went down.
Me:  "I think the shirt is on sale, but I'm not sure"
Cash: "oh sure, let me check" (she checks the flyer), "you're right!" (punches in the sale price)
Me: "hmm...I think the rack said it was this $XX amount"
Cash: "Let me call the department"
(I ran over myself to check the price and came back at the same time as the sales rep in the department)
Me: "I was wrong. You punched in the right amount"
Cash: "oh not a problem. It's always good to double check"

And that my friends is how you handle a price check. There was no judging, no rolling of the eyes, no "sigh", but was validation from the cashier that it was ok to check.

I would go to this Zeller's any day now compared to the one at Thorncliff. Thorncliff could definitely learn a thing or two from this location.

I would have thought that with Gerrard Square improving their look (and advertising the crap out of that fact) that Zellers would have also jumped on that band wagon. Nope. This store is still it's crappy, ugly self from the 90's. It's almost like a rebellious teenager. They refuse to change their look and conform to the rest of the industry that promotes cleaner and nicer looking stores but with the discount price tag.

Now normally I would admire a business for going in a different direction from the industry. But in this case, Zellers is not forging ahead trying to out shine everyone else. No, they're just stuck in their old ways, trodding along, waiting for Target to come to Canada and steamroll them out of business.

I have decided to give Zellers an additional star for two reasons.  The first  is that I did the first review early on in my Yelping career and now that I have a more refined review palate I feel I was overly harsh.  The second reason is that they often have discount candy near the registers in those old school cardboard boxes that you used to get at the movie theatre.

i never went to zellers, never even visited a zellers in my lifetime, before i moved around the corner from gerard square.  i dont know why really, its got such a cool name.  its like you could name your daughter that name.  (hey i know someone named celery.)

well, i suppose this zellers has had problems with people stealing shopping carts, because it has those poles that you must walk in between to go in or out.  (dont you think someone would get the evil eye or the strange eye, if they were walking casually with a supermarket buggy in the middle of the mall?).

so zellers is the dry goods supermarket take on the supermarket PLUS the type of clothes youd find at winners.   plus theres a pharmacy with very helpful and friendly people working there.

overall, its very cheap and conveniently associated with the bay so if you have any points on a hbc card you can use them there.

they also have a wide selection of decent outdoor furniture, so i guess you can throw in a bit of canadian tire while youre at it.

(grrrr. cant wait for the summer)

This Zeller's is what gives Gerrard Square such a bad name.  For starters the cashiers never seem to want to believe you when you tell them things.        Like the price that they just scanned & came up on their register is WRONG!         Just the other day I went to buy a carbon moxide detector that was 39.00 & supposed to be 35 % off.   After telling said cashier of this fact, she said it must've been a Saturday only price.  I said to skip it & waited for her to verify with maybe another cashier or a flyer that I was right.  No dice.  When I got home I checked the flyer I had & yes, I was right, they were discounted & ALL WEEK.        So of course I had to go & get another one later in the week.         This happens ALL the time in this store.  In fact when I returned to buy again a different cashier tried to tell me they weren't on sale AGAIN.         Figuring this may happen I in fact brought my copy of the flyer in to show her.  No apologies or dick all & to add insult to injury she put my flyer in her drawer for future reference I suppose, but you could ASK before you take something!          The layout of the store is nothing short of ridiculous.  They constantly run out of items you'd come in for like paper towels, toilet paper or food items.    In short, if you really need something & it's a good price, go for it.     To be fair, I've gotten good deals on appliances here like toaster ovens, vacuums & microwaves.     This store just doesn't do it for me anymore.  It's no wonder they were so against a Wal-Mart opening in the neighbourhood last year.     They would've had to clean up their act.
