If I were to compare Zellers to an American counterpart, I'd probably go with what Kmart was like in the 80's, or a Caldor, maybe a small Walmart... but everyone seemed to be very friendly and care.

We stopped in on a Friday in February specifically seeking the red Canadian mittens they sold at he winter Olympics in Vancouver. I had read that they were sold there on line and several people we asked on our trip (about many things) suggested we 'check Zellers.' A nice lady told us they were out and suggested another location, but then we discovered the display that featured all the Canadian Olympic-related apparel (sweatshirts, T-shirts etc) and happened upon the last pair of mittens! They were without a price tag, but cashier suggested they were either $10 or $7 on clearance. They rang them up for us at $7, allowed us to pay in American currency (everywhere did!) and we were happy and on our way!

Zellers is a great place to go for anything you might need as a traveler, and the mittens, which we later found a huge amount of at Bay's Department Store in Toronto for $10, were a PERFECT souvenir!
