Zara is right across the street from H&M, they both offer fast-fashion from Europe. However, Zara has more cat-walk styles and the prices are higher.
There are four lines for women: TRF, Zara Basic, Zara Women and Zara Collection (cheapest to most expensive).
TRF is for teenagers with funky styles incorporating the latest trends.
Zara Basic is modern, simple and fits slim.
Zara Women is more mature and feminine.
Zara Collection is the high-end pieces (studio).
When Zara is on sale, this location has the best selection and display!!!
Unlike the Eaton Centre and Queen St. West (oh so messy)...
There are many rounds of mark-downs... So check back every week!
Guys get the whole -1 level for themselves, and ladies get the whole ground floor! Very spacious and bright = pleasant shopping experience. -

Ah, Zara. Cheap for chic. But you've got one bitchy sales associate. I came back again and I think he has "karma face." It's not good.
VIBE
Overheard in the ZARA Dressing Room by the Sales Associate who looks like the black guy Jonathan from 1 Girl, 5 Gays:
You have like a million things.
Oh my god, when is my shift over? I'm going to miss my bus at 8:30 p.m. Oh my gawd.
I don't understand why people bring a bunch of coats into the dressing room. Like, really.
Yeah, we close at 8 p.m. Disappointing.
There are so.many.clothes.
Whine Whine Whine. It kind of ruined my shopping experience. That and nothing fit me. But he never ASKED! Though I will give him that he knew a certain dress was out of stock. So he knows his product. It's just that his attitude was negative. I feel like the sales associates are Zara are just there to count how many items you have so you don't steal them. What ever happened to customer service?
Decor: meh. White.
THE GOODS
It's hit and miss here. Sometimes, they have some awesome things and it's never overpriced. They have great dresses (usually, not lately). The pants are made for models. a.k.a. not me.
Bring back the great dress! And the great trenches and coats.
OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK
Need to get the "za' or the va (as in va va voom) back into Zara. And get a secret shopper! Oh, but I already just did this for you. Not trying to get the employee fired, but it was not good.Listed in: Non-Food 30 Day Challenge, Clothes, Bloor/Yorkville

A few things you should know about Zara:
1. You get what you pay for- the clothes are cheap and of cheap quality. But for a low end store they do have nice designs and frankly, I'd rather spend $50 on something that will be "out"next season, than $500.
2. The fit stinks. It seems they focus more on making nice looking clothes than clothing that fits well. I am not sure who they are catering to, but I am a size 0-2 and have trouble finding flattering outfits at Zara.
3. The sales people do not work off of commission-- a girl at the eaton centre location told me this. The tags of the garments show its available sizes, and it is generally self serve. If you ask, they will help. But they seem to go out of their way to avoid being asked. Commission or not, the job of a sales person is to sell clothes, help the customer, etc. it seems the job of a Zara employee is to clean, stock, cash out, and count fitting room items. Granted the clohes are priced to sell, but rude employees make me, as a consumer want to take my business elsewhere.
4. The Bloor street Zara has incredibly rude employees. At other locations the people have been somewhat friendly once I tracked one down, but this one, on Bloor, is staffed with employees who:
-Make employee purchases when there is a long line for the cash register
-snarl and act sarcastic in the change room
-generally have all around bad attitudes.
I don't recommend this location, in fact, I advise against going.
All in all, Zara is like a giant gum ball, it looks like it will be a good time, but loses its flavour after about five minutes. It's a big disappointment. Shame, because they do have some seemingly nice things. -

I honestly can't believe this store has good reviews. I mean, I don't like being bothered while I shop, but you don't even get a hello or a smile when you walk in. And forget trying to get into a fitting room. It's like nobody works that section.
A sales girl actually stopped, looked me up and down, and walked away when I was looking around once. What kind of 'service' is that!? -

ZARA finally reopens after a 3-4 month close for renovation.
WTF did they renovate? Disappointing. The layout of the store is entirely the same, but now they have fancier decor/finishing. Big deal. I can't believe they closed the store for so long just for that.
Overall, they have some decent/unique clothing finds here. Prices used to be quite cheap but I find Zara is on the rise lately.
The customer service here is awful and I always have to queue in line for ages to try things on and then again to pay. (Good time saving tip - go downstairs to the men's level and pay at the cash there) -
Review from Kat F.
"I'd like to buy the scarf on the mannequin."
"Sorry, it's the last one in stock. You can't buy it."
"Doesn't that mean I SHOULD buy it? You shouldn't really advertise something that's not in stock, just sell it to me."
"No. I can put your name on the wait list for when we change the mannequin over."
"...but it's just a scarf. I'm not asking you to undress the entire mannequin."
Ugh. Gnarly situation. I wanted to envelop myself in that damn scarf, like immediately. Wait lists be damned.
So when the first salesperson walked off unhelpfully, I approached another, and she took it down for me after I twisted her arm (almost literally), and as I type this I'm triply wrapped in the beautiful scarf.
Moral: sometimes it pays to be a stubborn bitch. -

Zara is an interesting business case study. The company spends no money on advertising, they rely strictly on word of mouth. They are also 100% vertically integrated, they design, produce and sell their products. They also produce much of their clothing in Spain and Portugal, and its refreshing to see something that isn't produced in China these days in this price range.
The store is two stories, with women's wear on the mainfloor and men's wear in the basement.
In terms of men's wear, you have to bypass a lot of club wear and trendy euro-trash looking garbage, but there are definitely a few diamonds in this rough. You can find some suits, shirts, pants and sweaters that are fashion-forward and decent quality with a good cut, slim but not too trendy. One thing I'm not impressed with is the fake pocket squares they are sewing into the suits now, cut this one out, open up the pocket like it's supposed to be a put in a proper white linen square.
Their suits are definitely entry level into the world of men's wear, but they are better cut then what is available at Men's Wearhouse, I highly recommend their suits for new young professional men who need to build a work wardrobe. Stay away from the red label stuff and you'll do well. -

Don't go into this store expecting to be helped by a sales representative, you'll be thoroughly disappointed. This store is for those who want to peruse the store completely on their own (also for those who have a lot of time).
Unlike most stores, and even designer clothes, most of the merchandise here is surprisingly not made in china! Most are made in Spain, and other European countries. So of course, the quality is better, and they even feel better too.
The styles are very current and if you pick and choose, you can easily put together a very sophisticated and stylish outfit for under $150. -

OMFG!!! I have died and gone to fashion heaven. Great prices, every item of clothing oozes style, sophistication and hott great prices. I will be coming to Toronto only for ZARA from now on. I am in HEAVEN. Seriously. I heart ZARA!! = ) XOxo
Sweaters, suits, skirts, tops, accessories, dresses, coats, OMG!!!
Best quality for its value store in the world compared to the top prime stores and top designers. -
Review from Marie F.
I love Zara...their clothing run a bit too small for me but their accessories are the bomb.
As a funny merchandising tactic their shoes on the floor under clothing or under tables. This means I have to crouch over like a crazy old lady and crawl around the store on the hunt for hot shoes... and did I ever! I found amazing hot pink pumps for a very cheap $57. All in all it was a good find.
I was a little disappointed that the customer service was non-existant: I was there for 15 minutes and no one said a word to me :-(
