If you told me that I could only shop at one chain store for the rest of my life, I would probably pick Zara. Well, maybe Anthropologie if it weren't so dang pricey! So Zara is my happy medium between fashionable and affordable.
You'll see some similar styles in here to stores like H&M and Jacob but with a slightly higher-end, more European feel. The front half of the store has a nicer, fashionable-girl-in-a-creative-office kind of feel. For summer, think loud pants and silky short-sleeve blouses. The back half of the store is a bit cheaper in terms of cost and taste. Raggedy denim shorts, message tees, etc. Still, I love picking up their cheap tees for casual days or layering.
I have a few staple pieces from Zara too, that have lasted pretty well for me. If you're in the work force but not rolling in the dough quite yet, or still paying off student loans, Zara offers fairly well-made pieces appropriate for the office at a decent price point, plus the clothes are totally cute. Blazers, pants, and especially their dresses!
If I wasn't so hooked on local boutiques I'd be here in all the time! -

Zara has a wide range of styles and some very cool items. They have clothing in just about every fabric you can imagine (you can mix and match textures which is always fun), and they focus on neutrals more than any other color scheme. That doesn't mean they don't have anything brighter, though.
The prices range drastically, sale items being as cheap as $10 for a sweater, up to a standard $60 to $100 for a nice dress. Only the odd item is outrageously priced.
The store is a little messy and picked through, and sometimes you have to watch the construction (mostly on items made from a silk-like mystery fabric -- they don't hold together well) but for the most part the construction is solid.
Great place to go whether you are looking for a basic item or something more interesting. -

I normally really like the clothes and selection at Zara. I was surprised at my last shop here early in Jan. The quality of clothes were consistently poor and the sizing on several pant styles were way off. The quality of the clothes were shockingly cheap-not something I'd ever experienced here.
I was very disappointed and hope this was a temporary after Christmas issue. -

I really like this store. It is like a better laid out Forever 21.
The clothes are similar to those at Forever 21, but are also geared towards an older more professional crowd.
I found a really nice cocktail dress here for $60 and I wish I had bought it. It was really flattering.
I suggest this as a place to find some great work clothes and some casual clothing as well.
