Really good takeout.
Don't let the hole-in-the-wall ambiance, eclectic decor, and lack of large tables turn you off, because the food is really, really good.
We called in a large take out order and it was ready when they said, hot, fresh, tasty, and there was lots of it. I hope these guys are around for a long time because I'm coming back for more. -

Amazing service. But .. it wasn't that great of food.
I found a fly.. YES. A FLY in my fish sauce. I did not take note of this until I was staring at the fish sauce and poured some of it out and noticed this little critter in there.
The fly wasn't alive .. it was dead -___- I also saw that there was a bit of crystallization happening in the fish sauce. I don't think the portions were that big .. I still prefer Little Thai Place's Pad Thai.
I will never go back again.. unless you want food poisoning or something. -

Yum!
Little hole in the wall but family owned and operated (3 generations it looked like).
Fantastic food and huge servings! -

Zap Thai looks like a hole-in-the-wall you would find somewhere in a non-touristy district in Chiang Mai and the food tastes just the same.
Their green curry is exquisite - hot and spicy, but also nuanced with the way its abundance of flavours approach your palate. And for the strict vegetarians out there, Zap Thai claims not to use Fish Sauce in its Red or Green curries (but uses it in all of the other curries - even those it declares can be served with a vegetarian option).
Spring Rolls are crisp and well fried. They serve them with a sauce that is heavy on the vinegar rather than the plum sauce we're used to in Chinese Restaurants (or over at Baan Thai).
Their pad thai was good, but nothing I'd go out of my way for (unlike the green curry).
However, this is not a place that you would want to take an unsuspecting date, unless you know they love awesome ethnic food in dive-y locations -

Located in a small strip-mall a block east of Esquimalt Plaza (with the County Grocer, RBC, Serious Coffee, etc), ZAP THAI is a small restaurant with a hard-working staff and a fantastic menu.
I live in the area and believe is supporting local businesses. My roommate raved about this place so we went so she could induct me. The owner is also the primary cook, and she knows her stuff. The staff is friendly without being intrusive. Once, a friend and I meandered over about half an hour before they opened. The owner was there, and cooked us op a dish to go... and piled on extra food when I tried to tip her more than she expected!
Seating capacity is only big enough for 16-20 people, so not a great choice for a large group, but the food is awesome. And they'll make it ped-hot (Thai-hot) or entirely without spice, if you ask them.
For pick-up or for dine-in, it's worth the trip. It doesn't look like much, but once you've had the food, you know they don't skimp on product! -

I've grabbed take out from zap thai countless times now (it helps that it's only 5 minutes away). Do not let the location or appearance fool you, the place honestly looks like a dump (especially from outside, inside isn't quite as bad) and is in a slightly sketchy area of town, but damn that's some good thai food. Zap has a pretty tiny kitchen and you can see right into it from half the seats inside, which is always reassuring.
Their spring rolls are crisp, not too oily and pretty tasty. Their pananeng is the best I've tried in Victoria, we order it every single time. They make a fairly lively tasting phad thai ( I find so many other places have just a dull overall flavour, zap thai just has that extra pop to it and they give enough lime to really liven it up with a hit of citrus acid). We really enjoyed the bbq pork skewer appetizer, it has a unique flavour that's hard to stop eating. I have friends who just love the drunken beef and the orange beef, but I've yet to try them. We've ordered the prawn fried rice and the sweet basil fried rice a few times as well and they're very good overall, although once or twice the rice seemed slightly mushy.
If you're out in Esquimalt or just looking for a new thai place to try, give zap a go, it's only 5 minutes or so over the johnson street bridge... just dont judge the book by it's cover. -

I ordered take out from here close to closing time and had a great experience. Everything was fresh, hot and tasted great. The green curry was delicious.

Pretty good. My review is only on one vist, but we will be back. Both my wife and I had Pad Thai, I had it with Chicken, my wife had it with Tofu. It is always nice to see pad Thai that is not flaming orange, this wasn't. Spice was a little on the low side, but over all it was good.

Been there twice for takeout- best thai food I've had in a long while. Sit down ambiance could be improved, but great for hole-in-the-wall lunches I'd expect.
