Review from Lacey H.
I'm doing my research. I'm tuned-in. Dial set.
Yes, best line ever just happened... "it don't matter who you are, it only matters who I is." YES! Actually this Ke$ha remix, currently being spun is pretty despicable. On no, not Biggy, don't bring him into this mass murder (God rest his soul). So many "artists" are being dragged through the mud during the 5 O'clock Beatmix on this station... oh, the pain. It doesn't make any sense. Everything is incongruous... not Lady Gaga too...
So, apparently there's some mega mix that happens at 5pm. Why must they do this? It's like a dirty pie filled with flavors that should never go together. Usually I'm all for creative freedom, but this is awful, seizure inducing crud.
Further research has led me to assert that most of the DJs have a case of bonehead's disease. I think that this station has a larger playlist than the Bounce, but instead of just playing the damn songs, everything is remixed in a nauseating fashion.
Oh golly gosh, I think Z103.5 exhibits a popular trend amongst the current generation: the inability to focus attention pointedly for more than 30 seconds. What's being sent across the airwaves right now is a sound overload, spliced with incoherent beats and far too many "whoops." I think I'll change the station now. Research completed, thesis proclaimed. -

Whomp-Whomp.
As I trudge up Cogswell Street on a hot day, the invasive beats sounding outside of Z103.5's quarters aren't helping my pace. Yes, we know, Miley Cyrus is making her transition from Disney Tart to Sexified Superstar. But must I be reminded at every passing moment? I feel violated.
Personally, its just not the sort of material I prefer to load my brain with. These are the kind of tunes calculated by beat wizards to suck in young children and their parents cash-flow. Unfortunately, there are side effects that undertake innocent passer byers. And it makes me uncomfortable.
The station rips rapid beats, remixes, and hip-pop to drown you for hours! Parents: do your kiddies a favour, and avoid this station at all costs. Or else live with the knowledge that they may never know what constitutes real music. Sometimes I'm just glad so to have been an 80's baby.
Sidenote: As I vent away my own song, my background noise is provided with the iTunes library on shuffle. Silverchair's "Freak" has just made the play, and I laugh to myself about lecturing good music. But hey. At least less than fantastic music used to be inspired by something significant. (In this case: Nirvana) Nothing seems to stem beyond Lady Gaga nowadays.
Back on topic... I can't make a case for this one. Its not good. Do yourself a favor and walk right on past. -

My first one star review, and I can't think of anything that deserves it more than z103.5 fm, more commonly known as "The Bounce".
I was introduced to this radio station when it was brand new, a few years ago. Call me optimistic, but when I heard there was a new frequency to listen to in this city I thought it could be a good thing, possibly even an outlet for some new and enjoyable music. In retrospect I can't even begin to apologize to the people I asked to give this station a chance.
From what I remember from the early days of The Bounce, they played a variety of music; new, old, dance music, ballads, rap, pop, rock and because it was early in the conception, there weren't any ads or annoying radio DJs. It didn't take long however for this station to show it's true colors.
Despite being visually accosted by The Bounce banners on public transit and TV commercials, I make a point not to listen to this radio station. The only exposure that I have with z103.5 is when I am coerced by my 7-year-old sister (with puppy dog eyes) to listen to it in the car. (She is interested for the ungodly amount of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga songs that they play and she's only 7 so I can't tell her it's ridiculous). Most songs are remixed and tweaked so that it's unclear what the original piece of music was, plus they also play Girlicious, which is a "band" (I use that word loosely) that in my opinion, should be seen and not heard.
The Bounce website is alright if you are interested in reading up about events they are sponsoring or contests they are running, but a lot of the content is kind of pointless. While I admire the idea of the "Go Green with The Bounce" initiative that z103.5 is promoting on the site, it seems like more of an afterthought to collect on the growing popularity of the environmentally conscious movement. It's not relevant to their service whatsoever, and the section features a "Green Celebrity" section where they boast about what famous people have done for the environment (even things that are unremarkable like Hayden Panettiere registering to vote on her 18th birthday instead of partying).
In every aspect The Bounce is just disappointing. If your radio dial ever gets stuck on this frequency I would recommend burning a CD.
Hot Hint: For all you fans of The Bounce and The Dome, (I'm sure the two go hand in hand) check of Fahrenheit Fridays, when z103.5 VIP's get in free at The Dome before 11pm. -

Oh God give me the strength to sit through 30 minutes of this radio station. I tried, I really did, but I don't know how people listen to this malarkey (that's right, malarkey).
Along with 101.3 and Kix Country, Z103.5 complete the trifecta of terrible in Halifax's already awful radio landscape. The DJ's are stale, unfunny, uninteresting, phony, a million other negative descriptive words. The music is awful (super awful). A sample play list sounds something like this: Lights, Pitbull, DJ Sammy, Stereos, Cascada (which was especially ridiculous because who needs to evacuate the dance floor at 11:30 am!?. The fact that the playlist is awful is bad enough, but they can't even play songs at the appropriate times? Come on, what is this, amateur hour?)
The best part of the Z103 experience is the web site. There is a promotion for the "Z103 Weight Loss Challenge" that is placed just above an advertisement suggesting you eat at Burger King. Just like their play list, armature hour.
If you enjoy awful music get ready to be a pig in filth! All others should head left of the dial.
