Their red velvet cake has me coming back time and time again. One of the better places in Toronto, regardless of the self absorbed review below.

This shop is located in Parkdale bordering Roncesvalles. It is truly a hidden gem amongst the old antique stores and dollar stores lined up along the very end of Queen Street West. It's a good thing I discovered this shop AFTER I moved out of Parkdale or else I would have been going there every day!
The only "flaw" about this shop is that they didn't really have that many cupcake flavours when I went there. I did have the pleasure of tasting their red velvet cupcake and their cupcake of the month flavour, white velvet. The white velvet cupcake consisted of a spongy vanilla batter cake topped with strawberry vanilla icing. It is so light and so incredibly delicious - I could have eaten a whole box of those but thank goodness I only bought the 2 cupcakes. The red velvet is hands down the BEST red velvet cupcake in Toronto. Ever. Not even FTLOC can beat this red velvet cupcake. The cream cheese icing on top is perfect. Not too sweet and just sweet enough so that you can taste that it is cream cheese icing not icing sugar overload like some places. The red velvet CAKE itself is also not too sweet and extremely moist. I am craving one as I type this.
I hear they have a S'MORES cupcake of the month in August which I must try as the picture looks delicious on their blog.
Definitely worth the walk/street car ride over. Try their red velvet. Best in town. Hands down. Trust. -
Review from Linds B.
On Nov 21, I recieved the following message via Yelp from Morag Cleeveley, owner of Yummy Stuff in Toronto:
"Hello Lindsay,
I just saw your review of Yummy Stuff on Yelp posted September 4, 2011. Once again, I am so sorry that you continue to harbour resentment about your wedding cake. When we met in person over two years ago and discussed the error Yummy Stuff made, I apologized profusely for the mistake and immediately offered to refund your money. As I explained to you when we met, for some reason, I had not received any emails or messages from you after your wedding in November 2007. Again, I do sincerely apologize if the treatment you received was inadequate. I know I was not in the shop when you came to collect the refund but please do not take that as an attitude of "no big deal". I do appreciate you letting me know about the error and I have done everything I can to make up for it. Lindsay, I take my business very seriously and I take my customers' concerns very seriously as well. I am not sure why you chose to post this review again after the issue had been resolved . If you have any further concerns, I politely ask that you please contact me personally so that we can once and for all put this behind us.
Sincerely,
Morag"
Here is my response:
Morag,
Thanks for your note, it's great to have such a clear example of your communication style, and attitude. I welcome the opportunity to respond. Your choice of language is interesting, and revealing. My review of Yummy Stuff speaks to the facts, with no embellishment, nothing inflammatory. What happened is this: You made my wedding cake the wrong flavour. That fact is not in dispute. You obviously have issues with communication, as you were impossible to reach before and after my wedding, and by your own admission missed multiple calls and emails regarding this egregious mistake. I showed you these emails when we met in person, so this fact is not in dispute. Like most brides, my wedding cake was very important to me. If someone made your wedding cake the wrong flavour, would you give them a glowing, positive Yelp review? Perhaps this would be an unreasonable expectation of your customers?
Toronto is a small town. I've met a friend of yours, and she told me how upset you were that I had posted my experience on Chowhound, and how hard that you had worked to get my post removed. She didn't say you were sorry, just how YOU were upset at ME for telling the truth about the situation. Again, facts are facts - you made my wedding cake the wrong flavour, and then you didn't even have the decency to respond to calls and emails informing you of your mistake. When I came to you in person, you did not "apologize profusely", you just said that you hadn't gotten my calls or emails, and that it was a long time ago. You offered me a partial refund, not a full refund. I was gracious enough to accept that in good faith, but on my return to your shop to pick up my refund, your staff had no idea why I was there. They said that you weren't there, that you hadn't mentioned about anyone coming by. They were rude and dismissive. Finally I blurted out, Morag made my wedding cake the wrong flavour? "Ohhh thaaaaat... Yeah, she left you cash." And they handed me a pile of bills. I stood there, aghast, staring at the wad of cash in my hand. After all this time, my messed up wedding memories were only worth this... cash? Really? You couldn't use an envelope? Write a little card? Offer a little cake in the right flavour? Nothing. I must have looked confused, because as I looked again at your staff, they seemed to be wondering why I was still standing there. "So", perky teen #1 said, "like..... sorry about that!!" "Yeah, sorry!" chimed perky #2. This was an insulting, demeaning, and disturbing experience.
I know that you already know this story, as it was posted on Chowhound. If you cared so much, why didn't you respond on Chowhound, and explain your side of the story? Could it be because there were multiple comments, also claiming the same sort of poor customer service, rudeness, indifference, not to mention so-so or stale baked goods?
The tone of your message says it all. You can say whatever you want, but you didn't take my wedding cake seriously, you didn't take my phone calls and emails seriously, you didn't take "resolving" the issue seriously. I got a partial refund, poorly delivered. I'm just telling the truth about my wedding cake. If you need to send messages of further insult and intimidation, and to insinuate that it's somehow my fault that I have a negative comment, perhaps you should take a serious look at your business practices, as well as the attitudes of yourself and your staff. Clearly, resolving issues isn't your strong suit. It might help if you don't make people's wedding cakes the wrong flavour to start, but trying to blame them for being bothered by it truly takes the cake.Listed in: Cupcakes

Review from Downtown D.
Toronto, ON
I had the month's special - chocolate with passion fruit filling and chocolate ganache on top. (Standard flavours in stock include chocolate, vanilla and red velvet.) I was disappointed the inside was just a squirt of filling and the ganache topping was kind of hard. I think the cupcakes with fillings were better at another well known shop...
The prices have gone up $2.75 plus tax came to $3.11. Boo.
(Mini cupcakes are $1.) -

A big cupcake craving hit me yesterday, and since I was in the area visiting a friend, I decided to hit up Yummy Stuff, for some yummy treats :) I've walked by this bakery hundreds of times as Im always in the area visiting friends and my bf, and yet somehow, I have never actually bought anything here. A surprising task for someone with a sweet tooth as big as mine.
I got 6 cupcakes for all of us to share, including the red velvet, mango, vanilla, chocolate, raspberry and maple-bacon. The red velvet was by far the best, super moist and not too sweet. The rasperry cupcake was a little too sweet (even fo me) but the fresh raspberries baked into it were a nice touch. The mango cupcake is basically a regular vanilla cupcake with mango flavoured icing, and it is pretty yummy. The chocolate and vanilla cupcakes were just what you'd expect of these two classic flavours, and finally the maple bacon: Well, it was a bit dry, but still yummy. It has the right ammount of saltiness to it, and the oats in the cake give it good texture, and some bite to it, wich I particularly enjoyed.
The six cupcakes came out TO $15.00, so they're definetly not cheap. The store also has other yummy offerings such as cookies, tarts and mini sized, one bit cupcakes that looked really cute, so I'm going to give them a try on my next visit. They also make speacialty cakes that looked beautiful on the display.
All the cupcakes we tried were very fresh, and had the right ammount of frosting on them, so I was very pleased with the overall product. I'm definetly going to be making reapeat visits to this bakery.Listed in: Get your sugar fix!, Parkdale Eats

recommended: margarita cupcake, s'more cupcake, red velvet cupcake, bacon cupcake
+moist
+fresh
+one cupcake doubles as two due to sweetness/size (get more for your money)
+known for their delicious red velvet cupcakes
+$1 mini cupcake option
not recommended: lemon, raspberry, vanilla, chocolate
-stale
-too much icing
-old product being sold first
-low stock
-overly sweet to the point of being nauseating
apparently some days here are good, others not so much. therefore i am 50/50 on this cupcake store. you can get 6 cupcakes for $15 which is expensive so make sure you pick wisely. the red velvet cupcake is their most famous, nearly always sold out and most fresh.Listed in: FOOD & DRINK

Clearly I came on the wrong day based on all of the other reviews. I'm in line with Brian C. (we went on the same day). My cupcake's icing was also almost frozen and the cake was dry.
I guess I need to make a second trip so I can actually enjoy some yummy stuff.Listed in: Cupitty Cakes

I was very excited to try the cupcake of the month, based on the lengthy description on the sandwich board outside the store. Being an avid baker myself, I'm always excited to try new and interesting flavours and combinations. Unfortunately, the cupcake that I had tasted like a boxed cake mix, and the icing tasted like it was store bought as well. Not at all was I was expecting, or hoping for.

I have wanted to try Yummy Stuff for so long, and I was finally in the area yesterday, and boy was i glad i ventured in. Their window display is so cute and whimsy, with brightly coloured tiered cakes that makes you wish they were made custom for your birthday. We tried their lemon and raspberry mini cupcakes, and at only a dollar a piece, you could pop them like a timbit. The buttercream was so delicious and the raspberry baked into the cake was delicious. We had the chocolate pistachio biscotti, that the cocoa flavour was so rich and the nuts were tasty. Now i really enjoyed this place and i would have given it five stars, but i had their chocolate chip cookie and it was too hard and the chocolate did not taste very high quality. Other than that, Yummy Stuff is one of the best bakeries in the city.

Came here with my ten year old sister to pick up a sweet snack after I picked her up from school. I let her pick whatever she wanted so she chose a handful of appetizing little treats. I believe they were a peanut butter chocolate square, a macaroon, a snickerdoodle and a chocolate pecan butter cookie. Everything looked great and for about 6 dollars, it was priced just right. They all tasted pretty good too(yes, I stole a few bites while she was doing her homework). Nothing outstanding but everything was solid. I'm going to have to come here again to try what else they have. Maybe a cupcake next time?

Much like the Wedding Cake Shoppe, Queen of Tarts & LPK's Culinary Groove, Yummy Stuff conjures up images of whimsy. All of those bake shops are great to go in to because they are pretty to the eye. Fun cookies, whimiscal cakes, decadent desserts and cupcakes that just make you feel like a child again.
Yummy Stuff is located deep into the heart of Parkdale, close to the Roncesvalles end of Queen St. I've passed it so many times and found myself enchanted by the display cakes in the window. Prompted by the cupcake crawl I decided to do a pre-emptive visit since it wasn't on the crawl list (a body can only take so much sugar in one afternoon). On the day before the cupcake debauchery I purchased a box of 7 cupcakes and took them back to the office for my staff to sample.
Let's see...here's the rundown on the list: Lemon; Raspberry; Red Velvet; Carrot; Vanilla; Chocolate and....yes, folks, I jumped right off the deep end and picked up one of those Bacon Cupcakes. I asked the gal at the counter who on earth came up with this concoction and she told me that they were quite popular in the U.S. Okie dokie. So back to the office I went and here was the feedback.
The Red Velvet scored a big hit with its super moistness and its cream cheese styled icing. It was one of the most brilliant red velvet cupcakes I've ever seen. When we cut it up we could tell how moist it was as it stayed really intact. The Carrot cupcake was also a hit but we were expecting it to be topped with cream cheese icing and suprise, surprise, it wasn't. The Lemon cupcake had a squirt of lemon curd in the middle of it which was tangy and the icing was tart. The Raspberry cupcake had a fresh raspberry in it and this was a hit. The Chocolate & Vanilla cupcakes were fairly standard. Ok, so for the Bacon cupcake....the cupcake itself is a chocolate oatmeal cupcake and it was super dry. The icing has a bit of a maple edge and you can taste the bacon, although not prominently. It was one of the least fav cupcakes that we sampled. I really think though that had more to do with how dry the cupcake was and if you look at the picture you'll see how it just crumbled basically leaving a lid of icing on the tray.
Yummy Stuff offers up some delish cookies and some novelty styled cookies which always make lovely hostess gifts. Like the Wedding Cake Shoppe their forte is really their cakes. I enjoyed the visit to the store and found the staff to be super friendly. I'd definitely pop back in to pick up some sweet treats. -

Cupcakes were nearly frozen and dry. The icing was completely frozen and both were cake and icing are lackluster anyway. Whatever flavors that they are trying to convey fall short. You may as well go to Metro.

you know, it takes time to become a wine connoisseur. and if you are really that, youd actually call yourself a sommelier. and so it is that you realize how inept you probably are in choosing a nice gift for your host of the evening in thanks for the wonderful dinner he will provide for the night. and so you look and look and look and you pick the best damn looking label youve ever seen thinking that will be the greatest. or maybe you go for whats least expensive....just saying.
well should you want an easier time of it all, a smaller canyon between what your eyes see and the taste you will have your host experience (or yourself if you cant make it there before you finish it all), you might want to drop in on YUMMY STUFF on queen street east near roncesvalles.
it is here that you might inadvertently start rhyming off couplets from dr. seuss while you eye one of their boldly coloured cakes. or instead of a thank you card in thanks for a favor...or a good night in the sack...you could get a little bag of "you rock" cookies.
now i got about twelve cookies to accompany me to my brothers for dinner and in that dollop of a green bag i carried all the way there, there were chunks of shortbread and melting moments which are these lemon flavoured shortbread balls with some creamy filling, that indeed, proudly live up to their moniker. the first of my choices for the bag were the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies; those are the kind that send you right back home when you couldnt pronounce your "r"s and all you wanted to go with it was some milk and an hour in front of the tube.
though there were a few more choices inside, all of them delicious, i daresay any child in that store would sooner gravitate towards something like a cookie popsicle. if its anything like the cookies i ate im sure its wonderful, but at four bucks a pop, id do nothing else than make sure my kid ate AND ENJOYED every last crumb. -

We've only bought cakes from Yummy Stuff, probably approaching 10 over the past year or more, and they are always excellent. It is our preferred place to go for birthday cakes and other festive bakery needs. However, we don't always order 48 hours in advance in order to 'reserve' a cake and they won't hold one for you if you call later than that. We find this policy inflexible and focused on the bakery's needs and not the customer's. We've arrived after work to find them sold out and had to go to Dufflet's instead. If there is a cake available and we call and offer to pay for it over the phone and pick it up in the evening, why is this a problem We encourage them to improve their customer service and keep making those fantastic cakes.
