We had been meaning to try to this place for some time since it replaced Kisha Poppo, and being Kadoya regulars, we were pretty hesitant about giving it a shot. It was surprisingly good! They have a huge selection of food, and the prices are so good. They have a sushi special for $6.50, and you can get 3 rolls/items plus miso soup and the list is pretty good, and not just the cheap rolls.p, mind you.

Since we tried this place, we've been twice back foe the sushi special and will definitely go back to try the AYCE.

Twenty-four pieces of sushi ... with miso ... for $6.49. Are you kidding me? That's three rolls to choose from in a fairly decent number of choices. I know they have other things on the menu but each time I came here, I just can't pass up that deal.

They're not tiny pieces of sushi either. In fact, the first time, I couldn't finish the three rolls by myself.

Pretty tasty too, although the miso is a bit bland (an issue that seems common around these parts. I've yet to have good miso anywhere).

A funny thing happened during one of my visits. My friend ordered 'a sake'. Yes, it's grammatically incorrect but he was distinguishing the fact that we only wanted one. Imagine my confusion when the waiter brings a bottle of Asahi.

The poor man misunderstood us :( We felt bad though because it could've been more clear. And the guy (I think he must've been the owner ...) was super nice is charging us for only one sake after we ended up ordering another one later. So a positive experience.

    There's also TVs as well.

Good sushi. Lots of options on the menu, including an extensive "special rolls" side menu. I really liked the prawn gyoza, which are actually a little silly but still win points for presentation. Also the SSSR roll (smoked salmon and shrimp) worked pretty well.

There are plenty of cheap items on the menu but we didn't order many of them. The two of us had a reasonable amount of food for $34 incl tax and tip.

I admit it's hard to get 4 stars in this category simply because there are so many decent, affordable sushi places in Vancouver. Yuko Maki is great but it doesn't stand out from the rest very well. Dear Yelp gods, please start allowing half stars so I can give this review and future reviews like it a 3.5.

I came here for lunch and thought it was good. I paid and even gave them a tip.  However later that day, I notice that they were short in giving me change. I went back, explained my situation.
Basically step by step of what happened:

I suggested to them to count their cash register. They will not count the cash register until closing. And they said they can't help me. I also suggested to look for my receipt. They also said that they can't do it for me.
One of the employees even told me that  when you go to groceries  that you can't come back when they gave you short change.
I asked for a manager, there was no manager on site
I asked them if they could call their manager , they wouldn't because they don't have their owner's contact number
They gave me their North Vancouver location and asked me to goggle for the contact number or call 411. Because they can't do it for me
They judged me of lying that i'm one of those people just coming in asking for money
They threaten to call the police on me
I asked them to call their contact number, their response was that "i'm working and I can't do that for you and I can't help you" and basically left me in the counter.

I goggled their North Vancouver location (thank you for the iphone)
Asked to speak to their owner, they said they will contact the owner for me
They said they will call me back. I called back probably 3 times and they  finally gave me their owner's contact number
Contacted their owner and explained situation. And she was nice enough too ask me "what I can do for you". I told her I just want my money back because I don't want to have to come back here again. And they don't give you receipt when you pay cash.

This small thing took me about half an hour and I was the one who resolved the issue.

Just a warning that if you ever ran into problems or make a complain with them, they don't have good customer services and does not know how to resolve customer complaints. They don't even have  or know their owner/manager's contact number.  And they even will threaten to call the police on you.

Their AYCE is pretty durn good. Havent been a big fan of AYCE lately, as Vancouver has so many great options. Decided to give this one a shot and glad I did, it's 2 blocks from my house, tasty, reasonable, great variety. It's a good option if you are in the mood for WAY too much sushi!

There was 3 of us and we had the $19.95 all you can eat for dinner.

    Food:
The gyozas were tasteless, chicken karaage was pretty much reheated deep fried chicken wings, the spicy salmon/tuna sushi was rice, raw fish and a squirt of Sriracha sauce. Surely a sushi joint would at least prepare sushi with a little bit more pride in their presentation? The mango california roll was mango, cucumber, mayo and rice. What happened to all the other ingredients in a california roll? Tonkatsu was dry and so was all the other deep fried meats. This is also how they serve their curry chicken (deep fried chicken and a squirt of mustard coloured sauce over the top).

    Service:
We had to repeatedly ask for more tea and kept turning away food which we didn't order. The restaurant was not busy and clearly they just can't get service right.

    Overall:
They might have a large range of sushi but the best thing they served was their miso soup and seaweed salad.

    Won't be coming back.

$6.49 teriyaki box special is the best deal in town!  You might blink and miss this hole in the wall. Its open lqate and if your are strapped for cash, it's cheaper then an Extra Value Meal! We share a Crispy Eel Roll and had two teriyaki tempura boxes.  Grand total $26.00, now beat that!

When visiting the West End we usually stop by for the $6.25 veggie bento box.  A great deal and very filling.  We've also gotten some veg sushi rolls as well.

I like that this place is open late and has lots of seating. The service is so so.  Sometimes the waitresses are not so attentive.

But I like the fact that the food comes fast and it's easy to get veg sushi for a good price.

It does the job for us, and we will be back!

    Amazing sashimi :)
    Biggest pieces I've had ever!
And the prices were more than reasonable. I think the 1/5 rating is from a competitor because this place was great. Try it and post a review to clear the waters. Try the $10 sashimi plate, would be a great lunch. Cheers.

Just moved back to the West End after an extended dalliance in East Van. No longer in any kind of proximity to my beloved Sushi Yama (a restaurant which sits perfectly at the nexus of affordability and quality), I'm on the hunt for a new place to gorge myself on avocado rolls and fried tofu. Being that Yuko Maki is around the corner from my new crib I've eaten there once or twice and can now say that it's fine. Not great, not awful, just fine.

The menu is pretty large, comprising all the normal stuff you would expect from your standard japanese eatery. Your udons, your gyoza, your sushi combos, your gomae, all present and accounted for. Nothing too loco (with the exception of a few wacky maki specialty rolls) but I ain't on the lookout for a fresh new dining experience, sushi is comfort food to me and I want the bog standard stuff the vast majority of the time. I've partaken in the veggie gyoza, which was dead average, the pan fried tofu with spicy sauce which was pretty much what I expected and the veggie yaki udon which while not being exceptional was perfectly serviceable. Are you noticing the pattern here? It would be damning Yuko Maki with faint praise to say that it's utterly average, but in my mind there's a great deal to be said for a place that isn't too expensive and will be predictably passable. I ain't need to have my mind blown, I just want a $3 avocado roll of a reasonable size, and I can get that at Yuko Maki, no question.

If nothing else, I can say with confidence that although the food is unlikely to inspire loyalty (basically I'll stop going the moment I find a comparably priced spot with even marginally better food) this place is convenient and edible. In the crapshoot that is trying out sushi spots in Vancouver that's more than can be said for a lot of places. That's the glory of low expectations, if you ain't expecting much it's pretty hard to be disappointed.

A friend of mine suggested this place for a lazy Sunday dinner (formerly known as Kisha Poppo and not one of my favourites) I decided to give this place a try. I was impressed with the amount of veggie options that were listed in the menu, along with the page of specialty rolls, such as the "erotica roll" that were listed on a separate menu, cuz nothing says sexy like eating raw fish.

I was feeling a little freaky myself when I decided to order the "beautiful roll" which consisted of fried banana, avocado, rice and sprinkles.... Sprinkles? Was this supposed to be sprinkled with something or were these actually sprinkles? There was only one way to find out, and I always wanted to tell people I had beautiful rolls, so I went ahead and ordered that shit up. It arrived with cupcake sprinkles on top. I am guessing this was supposed to be some kind of dessert roll? I have never had a dessert roll so I am not too sure this is what to expect (don't quote me on any of this.) I have to say though, if you're going to make a dessert roll, wouldn't it make more sense to have it drizzled with something other than mayo? Like maybe you could put ice cream and chocolate sauce on there? But if you're gonna do that you may as well just nix the rice and avocado and roll it up in coconut and peanuts, and if you're gonna go that far, you may as well just go for a sundae....

I also ordered up the veggie gyoza, which was pretty standard, and the boys ate their veggie dishes with no complaints. Everything here was pretty much average, and the prices were pretty good. I'll have to go back and try another specialty roll, but perhaps one that isn't covered in cupcake sprinkles, the small bits of crunchy texture really made the warm squishy banana taste weird. I'm not so sure I would order that roll again, even though the concept of it at the time (I was NOT drunk btw) seemed like a really good idea.

So we use to always go here back when it was Kisha Poppo and they had some really good Agedashi Tofu. This time we walked in and it looked different and the usual guy wasn't there. I really didn't realize it was under new ownership until checking Yelp right now to be honest. That explains the bland agedashi tofu. We ordered the tofu, sashimi box and the salmon crunch roll. The tofu before use to have a darker, more flavorful (dashi? tempura?) sauce that it sat in, but this time around it was just bland. The salmon crunch roll was actually really good and the sashimi box came with 4 BIG hunks of salmon and tuna and there was nothing to complain about there. The box came with a salad that had that grated ginger paste "dressing". I didn't know what to do with it. I would have mixed it into the sad little pieces of iceburg lettuce... but I just don't like that stuff. It looks like they tried to give the restaurant a more intimate feel with the darker interior color and low slung lighting, but I kinda wish Kisha Poppo was still there.
