I like Yuko Maki, lots of parking outside, fast service, inexpensive sushi and very tasty!.
The place is big and has lots of rotation (so sushi is always fresh). It gets busy in peak hours but the wait, if any, is not too long.
Nice and comfortable booths and average atmosphere.
I would give 2 stars on the friendliness of the servers (I am a regular and after 4 years I would expect at least a smile) but they are super fast so for that I give them 3 stars in service.
The rolls are good!
The Captain Crunch is very yummy, it is a tempurized california roll with unagi sauce on top and it is very moist and crunchy. Nice textures and flavours.
I also like the Ichi roll (yuuummmy) it is a little rich but it is good to spoil yourself once in a while, it has salmon, avocado, cream cheese and it is tempurized with unagui sauce on top as well.
They have the sushi special where you have 24 different options to choose from and you get miso soup plus 3 items for $5.95 (it is a deal!).
I don't like their sashimi even though the fish is fresh, because they cut it too thick and sometimes that allows it to come frozen to the table and that is not a good feeling.
Their green tea lacks tea, it is more hot water than anything.
Other than that, feel free to order what you want from the menu.
The bento boxes are cheap too and huge!
So, I would say, good sushi for a casual lunch or dinner at excellent prices at a great location. It is right on Lonsdale Avenue between 15th and 16th. -

Great food for the price.
-1 stars because of the decor/condition of the restaurant and the attire of the staff.
Try the captain crunch role. Yummy. -

I enjoyed the sushi and the price was not bad at all!! The server wasn't very friendly however and the want for food was a tad longer then what I'm used to.

This is my local sushi joint. There are a handful of other ones within walking distance of my apartment too, but this is always the one I head to. Seriously, I'm probably here 1-2 times a week.
I have never been disappointed.
Super friendly staff, prompt service, super cheap prices (a major plus), and a big, comfy booths!
And did I mention the food is good too? For similar quality at other establishments, you're paying about a third of the price more.
I love Yuko Maki. I'll definitely miss it when I move away from the Lonsdale area next month! -

If You Knew Sushi Like They Know Sushi...
That probably flew like a lead balloon, but if you ask your grandparents, they might have heard the song.
This place is Roll Heaven. They produce rolls that will make you weep, if you have taste buds and have been satisfied with less than awesome.
Some of the staples, like the Captain Crunch, Green Leaf, or Malibu rolls almost defy description.
Good. Fast. Cheap. You can sometimes have all three. Now, having told you about this place, I'll have to kill you all to keep the secret!

After a grind session at grouse mountain hunger strikes me and my friend.
So we deiced to take a wondering adventure along central Lonsdale ave to find the perfect healthier meal choice, even though my friend wanted MacDonald. We pass many places that seen open but empty (my number one rule: if the places it empty don't go eat there I eat by that rule)
Having stop at a two Mediterranean places to get some bake goods, we finally came across a place call Yuko Maki Japanese Restaurant. From the outside the place seem really busy but not too busy that you cant get a table.
Upon entering we find this place to be really big, they have even have a sushi bar.
We were seated right away (I though there was a bit of a wait, but those people standing there where just ordering take out). the waitress brought us the menus and the tea right away. After having a look at the colourful yet simple menu, I order there special combination C and a side of Gomae
special combination C:
-California roll & spicy tuna roll
-chicken Teriyahki & Udon
The food arrive in a timely manner. The first thing I notice was the Gomae was really rich in peanut butter. Second: The chicken Teriyahki being on sprouts instead of rice.(healthy) Third: The Udon was in a soup broth that had little to almost no sodium, but still had a little bit a flavor still(less sodium the better, most places load there broth up with salt). The California & spicy tuna roll was very flavorful.
Overall the food was very good here and the price was really a bang for your buck, there is service was very prompt(no wonder there so busy).
so weather your looking for a place to eat after a good workout or just happen to be in the area this places is a must.

Based on all the other reviews, it looks like I'm the lone soldier on this place. But I honestly thought their sushi was bad (even if it is super duper cheap.) We went there on a whim with our in-laws for dinner and from the start, it seemed to be a good place. It was bustling with lots of younger groups of teens, early 20s, along with a few famiiies, so I'm thinking 'great - this place is going to be good.' Was I ever mistaken.
We ordered some sashimi and some rolls - I think two different types of tempura rolls. Honestly, it's impossible to go wrong with an sushi that has fried bits of this or that in it. The tuna and salmon sashimi on the other hand was AWFUL. When it arrived on its little chop board, each sashimi piece was huge and probably a 1/2 inch thick. Ok, that's a little strange - normally sashimi is small and kind of melts in your mouth, but whateves, I'm open to something different. After taking the first few bits and asking for a fork and a knife because we actually had to cut the sashimi, I was over it and slightly disgusted. Who's ever heard of needing to cut sashimi with a knife and chew it like a piece of steak?! Later on, when we wanted refills on our tea (mind you, it was only our second refill), we had to waive our server down for about 10 minutes before she would even look in our direction. So hmmmmm...I'm not such a fan of this place.
In full disclosure, we do normally go to Sushi Town for middle of the road sushi or if we're feeling a bit more spendy we'll go to AKA To-Bo, which is our favorite place. I know that Yuko Maki is inexpensive and gives you a lot of food, but it really wasn't my cup of tea. (Not that I could really get one if I tried at this spot.) -

Best place for qulaity sushi at decent prices. Everytime i come into vancouver, this place is definitely on the list of restaurants to visit. I took my mother here to try sushi for the first time and she absolutely loved it. Even my little sister dug in. Just an overall awesome place.

Unlike most sushi restaurant, Yuko Maki let's you pick 3 rolls of your choosing plus miso soup for $5.95. Yes, you no longer have to suffer through the yam roll just because it's on special.
Cheapness aside, this is an otherwise middle of the road sushi joint. Salmon was bland and tasteless, the tempura in the dynamite roll was old and hard, but the avocado roll was solid, and the miso soup very tasty.
All in all, a perfectly average sushi restaurant. -
