Tonight, our team at work had our Christmas party at Yuk Yuks.  There was approximately 60 of us for a dinner buffet at 6, plus the show at 8 p.m.

I have been to Yuk Yuks a number of times at the Blackfoot, but this was my first time at the Elbow River Casino for the show.  I have picked up free tickets for charities at the box office here a number of times - but this is the first time I enjoyed a show at this location.

Compared to some of the other local comedy clubs, this one is a cut above the rest.  The dinner was amazing.  It was a delicious turkey and ham dinner buffet with all fixings, and then the show itself had top notch entertainment.  The MC, opening act and headliner were all bust-your-gut funny.  It is not unusual for me to enjoy a comedy show, but it is rare that I find all three comedians to be hilarious.  Yuk Yuks obviously brings in only top notch talent on a Friday night.

The decor was modern and clean and there is an underground parkade that is free, which isa nice touch.

I will definately be back here.  What a fantastic night!

I was feeling a bit out of strung on a Thursday night when my friend Rose made my day with a free ticket to a show. Located inside the Elbow Casino, Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club is kind of odd. It felt like I was walking into a hotel conference/meeting room when I expected to stroll into a pub/club because Yuk Yuk's was so well known across the city.

The table setup was kinda weird. It was all lined up parallel to the stage rather than the traditional single tables sprawled across the room. I felt like I was in school. This made it somewhat awkward for waitresses to come around for drinks and orders and could be visibly seen by the room.

Still I liked Yuk Yuk's. The comic acts of the night were great, talents from across the country that dropped into Calgary. The crowd was a bit cold and dulled out but the MC did an awesome job getting the crowd hyped up. I never got why people felt the need to heckle comics, it seems like people did it just to have the focus suddenly shift towards them in the room, silly reason to busts a performer's ball if you ask me

Overall a great show, I believe the headliner either won Comic of the year or was a contender, but the guy was HILARIOUS! Either way, SOOOO many dirty jokes left for me to steal...

As with all places of this nature it is very hard to make a review. It depends on the individual taste of the one writing the review. Let me try to explain my rating:

Yuk Yuk's is stand-up comedy with food-service. You do not come here to have dinner so the quality of the food is only a side aspect. It is good but nothing special.

The comedy however depends on each individuals taste and background. You basically have three kinds of comedy:
    * local jokes where you need to live here and know the history of the place
    * language jokes where it helps to be a native speaker
    * universal comedy - simple but effective

We had three comedians this evening - one of each group. What I can not stand is making fun of minorities or dirty language jokesm, this is cheap. I prefer the intelligent fun without f*** in every second sentence. One of the acts was exactly this. Another act was concentrating on local jokes which is hard to follow if you just moved to Calgary two years ago.

The main act however was awesome. Most of the jokes concentrated on daily-life situations, they were intelligent and no one was hurt ;)

For me this evening was worth 3 stars. With different comedians may come different results.

Yuk Yuk's is hidden away on the 2nd floor of the Elbow River Casino. I've had a couple of occasions to visit it recently, and I daresay, I'm going to be frequenting this comedy club a little more often. I've been to a couple of the other comedy shops in town, the service, the food and drink, and the quality of comedians at Yuk Yuk's easily surpass the rest. They're in a league of their own in our city.

If you're looking to be singled out by the comedian, sit up front. They can't see much farther into the audience with that light shining on them. Otherwise, make a b-line for one of the booths. The angle is much easier to see the stage from, and the seats comfier than the long tables with chairs in the middle of the room.

A popular food choice seems to be the nachos. Piled high with toppings, and layered in between the chips to boot, you'll be wanting to share these babies. They can easily feed 3-4 people as a platter to snack on. The last time I was there, the salsa did taste a bit weird.. almost like the spice you get in caesars. No I wasn't drinking caesars that night :p.

Another thing to note-there's underground parking at the casino, and it's free. So get there early for your nachos, and enjoy a primo spot.

I'd say this is the nicest comedy venue in town.  Moderate lighting, nice booths and decent service.  I've only ever paid full price for a show once (thank goodness because weekend evenings are a bit pricey) as my spouse's company often books the room.  Therefore, I've had the buffet a few times and the food is average.  I always look forward to the desert, as they serve a wide variety of fresh and yummy mini cupcakes.

Yuk Yuks has always brought in top-notch comedians (I find there's at least 1-2 per night) and since the venue change, they've kept it up.  I do recall going one night within the past year that the comedy was below average, but that's just one instance in probably two dozen past experiences.

I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the stinky casino, which you don't really have to deal with, but occasionally you have to walk past some stinky and sketchy patrons.  Also, the restrooms outside of the comedy club have their own odor from time to time which you can smell from the hallway.

Thankfully I've never had an issue finding parking in the lot across the street, but on really busy evenings it certainly could be an issue, especially if there's a big event at the Saddledome.

I've been to this location many times and always had fun. I don't go to eat but the food was good. The service was great and the waitresses were fast and efficient. Prices were a lot better than I was expecting and cheaper than any comedy club I've been to in Canada. So far we've always seen great comedians including Gerry Dee and Iliza Shlesinger who was absolutey amazing. I literally almost peed my pants.
There is lots of parking available at the casino including underground parking so it's great for christmas parties and all winter long.
No better way to start off or end your evening then laughing as hard as you will at this place.

I love going to Yuk Yuks - when I can afford it.

I've been here many times and always had a great time. I always check out the comedian bios before going to see if I want to go, and usually will.

The service is friendly and efficient. The servers check up and get new drinks without disturbing the show.

Tickets are a bit high, but the comedians are worth it.

I'll be honest: Yuk Yuk's is hit or miss. Sometimes it's a gut-bustin', teeth chattering, belly grippin' good time. And sometimes it's a time wastin', body achin', date snoozin' kinda time. But here's the thing: If you happen to go on a good night, it's flippin' fantastic. Some of my fondest memories of nights out on the town include a date at Yuk Yuk's. Some of the acts are so hilarious that I wonder why they haven't been snatched up by Second City or Just For Laughs.

What's fun about Yuk Yuk's is that not only is it a comedy club, but it's a great place to socialize with your date. Generally when doors open, you have about an hour or so to just sit, chat and drink. The atmosphere is nice and the location is classy because it's right inside a hotel.

Yes, some nights are 'bad nights' at Yuk Yuk's, but I'm willing to risk it. If for every 3 great nights, there's a bad night, who cares? As long as I'm with good company, how bad can a room full of people who are lookin' for a good laugh really be?!?!?

This is one of those times when I wish we could give half stars. A five star rating makes it appear that there's nothing this club could do to improve which honestly isn't true, but a four just isn't good enough to put across just how great it is.

I'll start with the bad news: If you aren't seated in one of the large booths around the back and side of the room, your next option are long integrated tables down the middle which are less than ideal on packed nights, as it doesn't provide your group a lot of privacy (unless, of course, you manage to fill the table, but this is rare) and some people get a bit uncomfortable being seated at the same table as strangers in this kind of environment. The food menu is also slightly limited, and can be a tad pricey.

But wow, do the shows ever make up for it. The Yuk Yuk's brand is the leading provider of comedy shows in Canada for a reason; they have a roster filled with the top talent in the country and have been known to pull in guest acts from outside of it as well. While this club may not have the reputation for pulling in "celebrities" that the competition does, what they DO have are real comics. As opposed to a guy who used to be on a sitcom years ago and now has decided to try his hand at stand up, you will get guys who've been doing it for 10 or 20 years, and have built their lives around putting together the best act possible, and it's hard to compete with that kind of quality. This isn't to say that sometimes one couldn't show up on a bad night, where the crowds just not into it and the "magic" isn't really flowing, but these happen everywhere, and at least here they are much fewer and farther between.

Futhermore, the local talent that support these big acts as MCs, middle acts, and even the up & comers that drop by to do guest spots are the best in the city. I can personally say I know pretty much every comedian in Calgary and when I compare where they hone their crafts, Yuk Yuk's gets the pick of the litter.

It's for these reasons, the great atmosphere, the awesome service and great staff that when anybody I know asks where they should go to see a stand up show I ALWAYS tell them Yuk Yuk's is the only way to go.
