YOUTHinASIA is a play on the word euthanasia, but the twist is to keep you alive. This group is sponsored by the Asian Heritage Foundation and its focus is to empower the Asian youth in Calgary with arts, dance and theatre.
This year sees YOUTHinASIA in three phases, a theatre program which will be accessible to all Asian youth in Calgary between the ages 14 to 17 years old. The selection of core group will make up 2010 cast of Acct out Theatre who will then perform the theatre piece they have created for YOUTHinASIA event in May (Asian Heritage Month).
Thier second phase is New Millennium Generation Bboy/Bgirl Battle. YOUTHinASIA will circulate high schools, recreation centres and any youth organization to seek out local break dancing youth crews with a focus on Asian Calgarians between the ages of 10 to 17. It will be an opportunity to reach out to youth in an anti drug and alcohol campaign of supporting dance and the arts.
YOUTHinASIA sees its third phase that will focus on Asian youth and the Visual Arts. The show will present the best of young Asian artists on professional presentation boards and will be displayed to the public. The I He(Art) YOUTHinASIA showing will feature a nice cross section of youth between the ages of 10 to 17 and will try to cover many disciplines and Asian backgrounds.
YOUTHinASIA is a great platform to cultivate city wide networking and pride for Asian youth.
