My third yelp event - and a favourite! I honestly felt like a kid again when I was fishing for my prize, eating my candied apple, and trying to toss a ring for chocolate.

There was some gorgeous art work on the walls, a lot of amazing outfits and some super friendly yelpers.

Thanks Crystal (H) and the Yelp Vancouver Team!

It seems I picked the right one for my first Yelp event. Crystal is very very very good at what she does!

The sangria fountain was a favourite, the UPS guys were so friendly. The frozen custard was AMAZING. The ring toss for Coco Nymph was super fun (too bad I have the aim of a toddler) and Rachel's chocolate sculpture was beyond fantastic. The UV drinks were yummy (the blue one matched my skirt!). I managed to snag a free bottle of their pink stuff for my costume prize, woohoo more free alcohol!

The flowers by Garden Party were lovely (their work is always good though). The photo booth they did was a fun idea, but I am not sure how many people knew it was there. The face painting looked awesome, but I never did get a chance at it.

The Ayden Gallery itself was lovely. Cute clothes, art that I wouldn't mind actually owning (imagine that....). They were very gracious hosts and I am so glad they shared their space with us. I really hope that nothing got spilled on!

But the best part? Really truly honestly? THE PEOPLE. Meeting new folk can be very difficult, especially in a tutu and top hat. Everyone was friendly and chatty and welcoming beyond belief. I am SOOOOO glad I went, and I can't wait for the next event!

Step right-up, step right-up, we've come to the Yelp Carnivale,

Where if you're elite, your night is sweet, and you're treated like a royale.

It's good to know, that all the merchants who show, are all Vancity locales.

They all scream "TRY MORE! That's what you're here for!" ... "Mmm, you're right, I shall."

And we know who to thank, for our food and drank, a mighty lovely gal,

Hats off to you, and our feathered dittery-doos, thanks again, Crys-tal.

The party was hot- literally, but that was no one's fault. The Yelp hand-fans were MUCH appreciated.

A special shout out goes to Faceaballoonza Kristal for painting faces non-stop all night long, as well as her pal Joey (as I believe his name to be) for taking photos of all the lovely walking canvases. You two are my heroes.

I quite enjoyed the non-alcoholic drinks and the light-up magnet pins from the UV peeps- thank you kindly, ladies.

Skeet and Ikes, your kettle corn is poppin'! I shall track you down, in fact, I already have. Nice website.

Cocoa Nymph, I have two words for you: sea salt. I will jump-off of the B-line for more of that dark chocolate with sea salt- sweet caloric bliss, I say.

The Willy Wonka sized ice cream was delish! I dared to double scoop both the purple yam and orange cream and it paid-off- big time. Good thing I copped a coupon for next time.

As for the gallery itself, what a wonderful space! There were plenty of pieces that I want to hang on my walls. I loved the themes and colours; it was all very captivating- especially the live artists painting in the midst of the madness. I'm amazed that those two could be in their element with so much going around them- BRAH-VO!

Show's over, folks. Move along. Move along...

Top ten things I learned from Yelp's Carnival Wonderland:

    1. Popcorn-for-dinner doesn't just have to be for movie night.

    2. Putting stickers on people with good costumes is a great way to cop a feel.

    3. Recycling is always smiled upon, in this case, with more UV vodka refills.

    4. If you try to look important the UPS guys will fill your sangria to the brim, even though you promised you wouldn't tell anyone else.

    5. If you eat too many mini veggie-dogs, you will end up smelling like a wiener.

    6. Do not take your bag of popcorn home and eat it in bed because pulling popcorn kernels out of your hair is not nearly as much fun as it sounds.

    7. Trying to pronounce other Yelper's names by reading their name-tags with your beer goggles on, only increases the amount of slurring you will have to do.

    8. When one of your friends decides to ummm... "overly enjoy" her ice cream cone, you should always try and find someone with a camera so you both can remember the moment, and how much fun you had.

    9. It never happened unless there is photographic evidence.

    10. Do your best not to get pegged in the back of the head at the ring-toss, because if the people tossing the rings are on the same page as you, you could be going home with a concussion.

    Thanks for the good times!

    Here's why 5-stars:

First star: Awesome venue with inspiring artwork - apologies to Ayden Gallery for initially thinking your clothing racks were for coat-check.  I was trying to hang up my jacket before I noticed the price tags on the stuff on the racks.

Second star: Free flowing booze (as usual) - this time, no crazy line-up for us boozehounds since the lovely ladies behind the UV Vodka stand were prepared for the onslaught with pre-mixed drinks and the guys at the R&B Brewery stand would hand you a beer if you were within yelling distance.

Third star:  Maybe it was the alcohol, but the music seemed to fit the pulse of the crowd a lot better than in past events.  Or maybe I was just standing near people that were into house music.

Fourth star: The facepainting really added that x-factor to the event.  I didn't brave the lineups but the facepainter was clearly uber-talented and it made for some great conversation starters.

Fifth star: The people - a lot of familiar friendly faces and some great party people who were attending their 1st Yelp event.  I managed to get some of my skeptical friends to show up - and now they know the stories are TRUE!

Apologies if I spill my drink on your shoes and for the love of god, please exercise some mercy if you have some incriminating photos of me.

Tonight's event at Ayden Gallery was perhaps the best Yelp event Vancouver has seen. This venue, the gallery, was an amazing choice. There was a feast for every artistic eye and pangs in my depleted wallet for want.

I don't know what powers came to be for all these things to come together but Crystal waved her magic wand and come together they did, in a most wonderful way too.

The ring toss was a great idea for CocoaNymph Chocolates --and I won! I shared some Mocha Hazelnuts with coffee and chocolate and everyone agreed this is great stuff!
The Wallflower is the star of my soon to be Gluten Free Tuesday UYE. The air filled with tantalizing aromas.
I've never even seen a Sangria fountain before so I was drawn to that slurplicious drink. It was the perfect thirst quencher.
Once again I am so happy to have met so many new cool peep's and catch up with other familiar ones too.

I enjoyed costuming up, and loved spying all the well dressed Yelpers too. What fun! :-D

Plenty of action going on at this event! Popcorn, face painting, ring toss games, and all the way to UPS boys wearing tux bibs. Drinks flowin' and munchies goin' -- the one hour I was planning to stay quickly turned into another hour or so.

Props to Crystal for arranging another amazing event -- it gets better and better each time! Sometimes I wonder how great one event is, and how she probably would not be able to top it off, but she does! Again and again!

Having been able to see the difference in crowds and line ups between the Elite only hour and the open-to-public hour, It definitely pays to be Elite.

I still can't believe they let us around their art and clothes with food and drinks (sometimes more than one) in our hands.  Ayden Gallery is very trusting!  And I loved that the artists were just chilling and working on their pieces in front of everyone.  I am kicking myself for not bidding on that adorable painting I liked.  What a neat place to host a party!  Well done!

I love that people came in costume!  Themes are fun!

I learned that frozen treats made of purple yams can be frickin' delicious.

Sangria from a fountain served by cute UPS boys should be at every party.

    Whither the corn dogs?

    Cheddar popcorn = yum!

I like chocolate.  Especially chocolate served by a nymph.

Face painting is awesome.  I didn't get mine done, but enjoyed everyone else's.  You all looked amazing.

I met lots of people, some I know from Yelp, others I didn't, and even ran into someone I know from 6 years back.  Yelp is the best!

Thanks Crystal for an awesome night!

    SO.MUCH.FUN.

Seriously, I felt so proud to bring my non-yelper friends to this amazing event-- the crowd was SO friendly, the event was impeccably organized, the sponsors were fantastic, the drinks were flowing nonstop, creativity abounded (funky face painting, awesome art/artists, fun costumes) and new friends were made.  I love it-- all of it.

Thank you so much, Crystal.  You've done it again.  : )

PS- the only downside was that my nametag(s) kept rejecting me.  I think I'll bring pins next time to keep the sucker on.

PSS- I'm just so touched by the amazingly friendly crew that comes to these events!  What an honour to spend an evening with you lovely lovely peeps!  We make Vancouver feel like a community-- woot woot!  Can't wait for the next event : )

Really Yelp Vacouver, Really? You just restored my faith in people.

This was probably the best Yelp event I've had the pleasure of attending so far. The art gallery setting made it even better and it was such a big space for a big crowd. The pieces were pieces I'd actually buy and not wonder "What the fuck is that?" No, really. Having some of the artists there was even better. Stepping off my artist soapbox..

The drinks were freeflowing, I like that. In reality, it made everyone that much more friendly. I was able to meet a few new people and that made me so happy.

People that dressed the theme, you rock, seriously.

All in all, awesome party. Please Crystal, do it again!

If nothing else, I hope tonight changed your thoughts on face painting being a kid's activity - it's totally not!

Great group of people, and the time went by fast :) I'll have to come to the next event as a guest!

What a great event !!  This is the first time a Yelp party was at a gallery - there were a ton of cool art to look at while not being distracted by all the familiar faces, meeting new ones, the vodka and sangria and beer, amazing face paintings and food !

I must say, the taro ice cream was the yummiest part of the night!

I'm so impressed with Crystal's event planning abilities month after month :)  I'm also really glad that this was an open party that my new yelping friends could enjoy and understand what I rave about once a month!

Great event and super nice to see my yelper friends again since I've missed the last couple of events!

Loved the venue and the food variety - drinks, hot dogs, candy apples, cookies, chocolate and popcorn!  I liked the carnival games and face painting - wow, whoever did the face painting was amazing!  The faces I saw were beautifully done!  It was fun to check out the art and clothing on display too.

No complaints from me and the validated parking was a nice bonus too!  Thanks for taking care of that for us!

Every time I think crystal has done an amazing job, she goes and outdoes herself!  I can't pick a fave.  All of it was amazing.  The gallery, photo booth, snow cones, sangria fountain, chocolates, popcorn, Wallflower food, custard, facepainting and beer!   However, it was incredibly awesome meeting so many new Yelpers that I recognize from the Talk threads and my "friends" list.

The after party was also so much fun!

And yes, as Pennylane said, if there isn't any photographic evidence, it never happened!

At an art gallery, what a great idea... Who knew that Tinseltown had such a cool space? I'm not one to seek out contemporary art but I know there is a lot of talent and creativity to see out there, and I was really glad to be reminded of it at the party. Especially the girl's fashion photography inspired paintings, really impressive. The gallery concept is such a good idea - people want to look, to touch, to have things to interact with.. and I generally find restaurant experiences a little stifling since everyone has to be sitting and it's too loud to hear each other properly.

This place was absolutely packed - it just got louder and louder. One of the best parties I've ever been to - so many beautiful people, from the artists to the servers to the crowd!

I always get a little worried about mixing my alcohol - I'm prone to hangovers sometimes, and I wasn't crazy about the vodka snocones, tasted a bit sugary... but the beer was really tasty, the pulled pork burgers and bean thingie were the perfect late-night snack, and all the little corners of the gallery had fun things to do. Great way to start off summer - thank you so much Crystal!

EDIT: Those lip chapsticks are so neat. Yelp has a factory now? They're made from natural oils that are all very good for the skin - great stuff! I always leave with interesting goodies.

This event was the best ever, combining three things I love: carnival food + costumes + fun people. I also loved the face painting which added a fun mix to the crowd..very creative!

As usual, I ate my way through the night. From mini hot dogs, handfuls of popcorn, nibbles of Cocoa Nymph, and four, err okay, five mini cones of frozen custard.  Douse it all liberally with sangria + UV Vodka and it's no wonder I didn't win at the ring toss!

Kudos AGAIN to Crystal.  That girl sure knows how to throw a mean party. xo.

What a wonderful first experience at a Yelp Event! I'm looking forward to attending more events! This has definitely made me want to participate more on Yelp.

Thank you Yelp, for giving me my first taste of frozen custard! I MUST go to Milwaukee Creamery now!

A Fair to Remember! Spectacular costumes on all and sundry, a sangria fountain (I was the first who came back for thirds, apparently) and spiked sno-cones, plus cool art all over the place and cool Yelpers: this is the reward for spending other thirty days of the month holed up in our review caves!

Bang! Crystal and the Yelp team strike again with the biggest event I've been to so far. From the moment I stepped inside the gallery I met several super cool Yelpers as well as 1st timers. The vibe and energy of everyone there was fantastic! Every Yelper I've meet shared the same personality: fun, open, and just damn cool.

Best feature for me: the sangria fountain. I think I want that to be a permanent fixture at every party. Other highlights: UV Vodka lemonade (blue flavour tasty and even matched my shirt!!), Chocolate Nymph, Ube ice cream, popcorn, veggie chili dogs, and R&B Beer (mmm).

Oh, and lets not forget the face painting! Yes, I was that crazy guy with the blue tiger face, raawwwwrr!

Other random happenings: I met a doctor with a batman face and a bib and got tickled by a girl with a balloon fetish!

    A super great time!

My favourite part was watching the very talented faceaballoonza paint everyone's face (and chest!) including my own.  But the star of the night was Mark H.'s Tiger.  RAWR!

The popcorn was delicious as was the candy apple and mini ice cream cones! Who doesnt like anything mini?!

Having two of the artists paint throughout the night was a very nice touch.

Crystal, you certainly outdid yourself. It was such a splendid evening, I can't wait for the event in July!

Three days later and I'm still reminiscing about this awesome party and all of its awesomeness.

Cocoa Nymph chocolates and ring toss, Skeet& Ikes popcorn served in these cute Yelp popcorn bags, UV Vodka in both pink lemonade and blue raspberry flavours, sangria fountain served by super nice UPS boys, beautiful facepainting, free Yelp swag, a photobooth with the awesome photographer Jeremy Lim with a pretty floral arrangement, sliders from Wallflower Modern Diner...Yelp Ad Lib napkins...and the best part of my night: the mini ice cream cones with mango and taro coconut frozen custard by Milwaukee Creamery!!!

To top all of it off, there was live painting, all situated within the wonderful space of the Ayden Gallery.

Too much fun, too many drinks= very awesome party!!

Thank you Crystal for putting on a great event, as always. I have come to the conclusion that once a month, I can pretend it's Halloween (as long as my wardrobe complies) and feel like a ltitle kid because I have all these awesome yelpers to have a great time with!

Ayden Gallery was a perfect place to hole an open party beacuse it was so big... and especially with all of us, who i think are pretty respectable... we really appreciated the space that was lended to us.

All the artwork was very fascinating and complimented our theme well because we were all over the place from all walks and scenes of a typical carnival.

With food vendors, games and drinks around the perimeters of the space, it gave us all a chance to explore, mingle and meet new people - I sure made some new friends!

The face painting, although a long wait, was sooo worth it! The Sangria boys were super cute and friendly, and Jeremy was sooo sweet, taking photo after photo. Rachel was so generous with her chcocolate samples and bottle toss, and I finally got a chance to try milwaukee creamery.

Once again, thank you Crystal for making Vancouver so much fun and I can't wait for the next one!

Not going to lie, I joined Yelp as a friend randomly mentioned the Yelp Carnival event, and it sounded like a a good time... However this event has totally converted me to the Yelpin' culture and I'm excited to have found an outlet for my Vancouver rantings and ravings :)

The carnival was the most fun I have had on a weeknight in, well, forever! The crowd, activities, food and bevvies were just a blast. Once you're not longer a free spirited unemployed/scholarly 20something it gets progressively harder to meet cool youngish folks and the Yelp crowd was friendly, welcoming and uber nice!

The edibles at the event were fab - I felt bad for the lone lady dishing one veggie dog, mini-spanakopita (oh my garlic-awesomeness) and pulled pork slider after another to the eager crowd. The UV drinks were amazing and summer-perfect, the sangria so-so (it's that Don Julio stuff which makes one nauseous after a couple cups but the presentation gets an A) and Milwaukee Creamery ice cream was delicious!

Thanks Yelp for a fun, fab and free event :)

I'm always in for food n' booze especially when it's free =)  This was my first time at a Yelp event and it didn't disappoint at all.

Great social venue space and a lot of neat artworks on display.  I love the Animalopolis one! haha  I got a chance to meet a lot of other Yelpers and I gotta say, you guys were awesome!  It was great seeing people really getting into the theme by dressing up, getting face-paintings, and playing carny games.

I heard the food was good.  I, on the other hand, was busy pouring myself drinks at the UV vodka stand.... didn't have time for food.  I gotta say, the blue taste way better than the pink one.  I didn't realize till much later that the alcoholic content was 30%; I was taking them down like they were mixed drinks.  I apologize if I did a little rambling, spill my drink on you, or maybe even throw up Asian gang signs for photos (which I hope there isn't much).  I hope I didn't embarrass myself at my first event.

Thanks you Crystal and Yelp for throwing this awesome party for us.  Great place, great theme, great people = Awesome times!

I think I've finally recovered from the awesome-ness of the Carnival extravaganza!!  From the ring toss Cocoa Nymph yumminess, to the face painting genius, to the neon pink and blue UV vodka snow-cones.. there was just so much going on!!

The frozen custard from Milwaukee Creamery was such a welcome relief - it was one hot room full of Yelpers!!  My favourite was the purple yam flavour for sure.  And those little ice cream waffle cups they served it with - memories of Grade 1!!

The sangria fountain was an awesome idea too - I wish my mail was delivered by those UPS guys ;D

oh why can't we have Carnival night every Thursday?!!!!

Between running back and forth getting samples (repeatedly) of the incredible purple yam frozen custard from Milwaukee Creamery and grabbing a handful of Kettle Corn on my way to fill up from the fountain of Joy (sangria)... I felt like..well, I felt like a kid at a carnival!

There's just too much to comment on, every part of the night left me as tickled pink as the UV vodka pink lemonade drinks. Aside from the drink and food (thank you Wallflower Modern Diner for the perfect carnival snacks) there was such a cool display of creative geniuses (artists, face painting, photography) everywhere. Who knew you could win money to shop at Fresh Out just by fishing? AND last but not least, there's nothing like a little liquid courage to help you go up to familiar Yelp names and introduce yourself- Yelpers, you are AWESOME!

sigh..I'll go to another carnival a la Crystal H. anytime...thank you!

P.S. Did anyone else wonder how great life would be if they had a little CocoNymph in their pocket feeding them chocolate whenever the craving hit?

Wow! What a fun night! Just when I think Crystal H has pulled out all the stops and pulled off the greatest Yelp party yet she goes and tops herself once again. I can't express how impressed I am with her party throwing skills :)

I think what made the Carnival Wonderland party so great was the gorgeous space, super fun peeps and the sangria fountain! The face painting, Jeremyn Lim photo booth and ring toss were also fun touches. The energy of the party was explosive and I met some really amazing people who were new to the Yelp revolution. All the newbies were especially impressed and were asking about future parties. The number of Yelpers in Vancouver increased dramatically!

Crystal H you are amazing and I hope you do something nice for yourself after all the hard work you put into pulling of this incredible party. A job well done!

My first event, my first review and hopefully over time I can improve on my reviews. Thanks Crystal for organizing this amazing event and for being so welcoming. I am a very shy person so it took me a few drinks and now I wish I had talked to more people than what I did. I now can't wait to go out to more events and can't believe I stayed away for so long.

The people in costume were awesome and hopefully next time I will do the same. My favourite thing was the fishing because of the person who ran that booth. She was so amazingly friendly and funny. In fact everybody there was so very friendly.

Thanks again Crystal for organizing this and coming up and saying hello to me.

Yelp events are always a lot of fun with cool people who are usually friendly and welcoming! It's great now to see familiar faces every time I go. I love coming out to these events.

If I went paparazzi on ya, check this page's photo section for the results! If you want higher res shots of you, holler.

Three cheers for local brew from R&B and veggie chili dogs from the Wallflower!

    Last night was a blast!

My only concern: the pile of leftover packaging from the Skeet & Ikes popcorn table... Could they not send it over fresh from the popper in one big batch, instead of wasting all those small air-sealed bags (the ones you'd find at the store) and serving up stale-ish popcorn?

Maybe next time they could pop it on site!

... Of course that didn't keep me from eating it! :)

    Fun times, Yelp, fun times!

What a super fun night. My plus two's had a blast and I won on a bid for a piece of art! Grateful to be a part of yelp!

A little crowded later on but that's to be expected at an open party.

Met some new yelpers too. xo

My coworker just asked me "Are you eating popcorn for breakfast?" Well yes I am! A sure sign of a great party is leftovers of champions and face glitter everywhere. The face painter was awesome.
For my official 2nd Yelp party I have to say I am converted and all my friends are trying to find out how to get invited to future Yelp parties. So Crystal.. amazing job!
Any party where I am surrounded by art, I always get excited. I have loved the Ayden Gallery since it's inception and make a point of checking out when there are new exhibits. It was a nice to see live painting as well.
Good music, great veggie dogs, amazing Cocoa Nmyth chocolate (I won caramels in the ring toss! Yah) and sangaria, vodka, and beer.. double fisting was upon me more then one time and not intentionally.
I am glad I didn't bring my camera because everyone seemed to have one! It's nice to sit back and enjoy a party and not be taking photos.
I realized though I need to get more creative and get into the 'themes' of these parties. Penny Lane and Vanessa D (and others) were my top costumes of the night.
I can't wait for the next one!

This was my first official Yelp extravaganza.... and it was excellent! I had no idea what I was in for, but ended up having one of the most unique and enjoyable nights in a long time. The fact that this was a totally open party with drinks and food and art and face painting etc. etc. etc..... blows my mind! The venue meant that, in the few seconds between crazy conversations with dolled up and face-painted party goers, you were entertained by all the gorgeous art and clothing that surrounded you.

The crowd was pretty eclectic, and there was no shortage of interesting conversations. Had a quick bite of yam/orange ice cream, a couple glasses of the lemonade and vodka concoctions, and some delicious local wheat beer, but I will say that the sangria via fountain, served by UPS boys, was probably my favorite part.

Being surrounded by fun people in a gorgeous art gallery with delicious food and drinks from friendly vendors ?? Not really sure what else a girl could ask from a Thursday night!

    MISSION DEBRIEFING: CARNIVAL WONDERLAND
1900-2200 hours, Ayden Gallery, Vancouver BC

Accomplished insertion at 1930. Was warmly greeted by Yelp staff at door and entered art gallery in previously unknown building [this Tinseltown place! I had no idea!]. Observed natives at work, skilfully documenting activities of petrifyingly adorable "Nym Nums." Attempt at remaining incognito was foiled by gentlemen shouting my name -- but they only wanted to give me a beer. I of course strictly observed the Yelp Strike Force rules for on-duty alcohol consumption and drank it right down. [It was good!] The rest of the evening proceeded apace: the alternately elegant, provocative, and provocatively elegant artwork, abundance of comestibles and friendly local vendors, and general good-natured attitude of the assembled Yelpers contributed to a successful mission for all attending. New friends were made, acquaintances were strengthened, and the intel squads made off with SD-cardloads of pictures of Yelpizens having a good time [seriously, a whole lot of you guys have cameras!].

Many thanks to Crystal, Ayden, and the sponsors for throwing us such a great bash!

My first event (i was a +1!!). I didn't know something so good could be true! Drinks, yummy snacks and so many new people to meet! Added nice touch: validated parking! What more can you ask for?

Crystal is certainly good at what she does!  It was great to see so many people turn out for this event and many of them in theme.  I really enjoyed the nibbles and cocktails.  I will definitely buy a bottle of UV Vodka and I've been known to buy Don Simon Sangria before too.  The UPS Store boys were sure working the crowd with their grins and charm.  The Kettle Popcorn was yummy and something I'd never tried before.  I sucked at the ring toss hosted by the Cocoa Nymph herself but Roanna shared her prize of chocolate coated hazelnuts - YUM YUM!!
The gallery itself has some pretty sweet pieces in it.  I was getting nervous as the place got packed - I would hate to hear that anything got wrecked.  I thought the metal scarab beetle was super cool!  Some of the jewellery pieces were gorgeous - must remember to tell hubby. Heehee.
As usual there was tons of awesome swag to take away.  My fave were the can coolers.  Those will come in handy camping this summer!  The fans were handy as it got pretty warm in there too.
