I learned two important lessons this past Saturday: 1) Oggling half-naked people at a charity run is fine since everyone's doing it; and 2) Cold weather and tight women's booty shorts are not ideal for one's sizeable manhood. It was the Underwear Affair, a walk/5k run/10k run set to raise awareness of cancers below the belt. A chilly and wet day couldn't dissuade hundreds of people from slapping on their runners, dressing up as superheroes or dressing down to their ever-so-stylish skivvies, and hitting the pavement around the University. Edmonton Yelp godmother Brittany assembled a team of Yelpers to help as road marshalls - we threw on Yelp tank tops, booty shorts, sweat bands and bandanas, grabbed pompoms and traffic vests, and headed out to the race course to direct traffic and loudly cheer on the brave runners. This was a wonderful chance to volunteer for a worthy cause, to give something back to the Edmonton community, and to promote Yelp through our sexy attire. The Underwear Affair in turn treated its volunteers warmly, providing us with snacks, drinks, post-race burgers, and repeated thank yous. As someone who has seen a family member deal with such a cancer, it was the least I could do. I was happy to help out, we had a lot of fun, and I urge people to either partake in this run next year or to help out however they can.
