Review from Louise G.
One of those places. One of those places where it seems like a time honoured tradition to go to, anytime you should be passing by.
It's a waypoint. A point of interest. A landmark. A checkpoint.
It is a big yellow barn in that you can see for miles. It is the place to stop for fresh produce and comestibles and supplies. And if you should happen to like pie and coffee - well you are in for a treat. You will think you've Pied and gone to Heaven!
It's a grocery store, cafe, and a small flea market rolled into one. Gigantic parking lot so haul yourselves in here big rigs or small. Picnic tables out back for a roadside meal, or just to stretch your legs a bit. -

* Corny! *
This little market has an eclectic selection of items. Yes, homemade pies, a small deli, and random fridges filled with all sorts of things.
But the thing that I am a fan of is that they have a "Corn room." Yes, an entire area dedicated to fresh corn (when in season).
We picked up some fresh from the farm Peaches & Cream corn. It looks delicious. Can't wait to bite into it for dinner tonight!
* Update *
The corn was excellent. So sweet and crunchy. Delicious!Listed in: Best Vancouver food sources

I have always noticed the yellowness of this barn from the highway and wondered what treasures it held.
PIES
Oh sweet sweet homemade pies. Like the kind you buy and eat cold across the parking lot next to the corn field on the hood of your car kind of pie. Sweet sassy molassy!
There's also loads of fresh in-season produce throughout the summer and early fall at very reasonable prices. Yehaw
It wouldn't be crazy to drive all the way from downtown Vancouver to stock up at the yellow barn. I am already thinking of my next excuse.Listed in: Fruit and Veg

When I first moved out here, the Yellow Barn was like a mecca of fresh food to me. Their cherries were better, their berries were sweeter, and they had the best corn (at the best prices). Over time, though, it seems like the quality has slipped a bit and the prices have gone up... I'll stop sometimes when I'm going past, but I won't do the special trips anymore.
They've got a good stock of local sausages and a weirdly eclectic fridge with drinks ranging from coke to regional hemp-blueberry tea. I haven't had their pies in a while, as I remember it they were decent. I'm really picky about crust, though, they're quite a notch up from the grocery's pies. It's a really good place to stop if you're on your way out to the lakes or up into the hills - I've often bought a bag of cherries to eat through the day's adventures.
