Ok, my intuition said 4.5 so they get the rounding up (again, that's mathematics proper, dudes & dudettes).
So, I've been meaning to come way out here and trying this place for a long time. The location and the "YMMV" reviews had me skeptical for a long time. However, having some time recently before work to head out, and it filling my Bookmarks feed recently, I made my decision...
"TO YEA'S WOK [AND _not_ BEYOND!]"
*trumpets sound in the distance* ,.-*,.-*,.-*,.-*
Gorgeous day outside, I pull up and originally planned to just get take-out. I'm glad I changed my mind. The girl up front sat me at the corner table up front by the window. 1st, the waitress came by and asked if I was ready. She then handed me the Lunch Specials menu and proceeded to mention good stuff. I asked her what her favorite was and she replied the Deef Pried (this was my typo, but I'm leaving it for you guys to see) Pork Chops with Rice. It's boneless (I thought "Chops" usually meant bone-in). Because of you, I'll get that. Smiles! That was cute and off she goes...
The rest of the time, an older gentleman (maybe Pat Morita's era?) is my waiter. He comes by to ask for a drink and I ask about their sake. He briefly describes a few different ones just enough for me (some flavored ones and Gekkeikan); how the Gekk warm is good for winter and the Fuji Apple chilled is good for [summer-y] days like this. I joked how the Gekk warm would just knock me out and make me sleepy; chuckles. I decide to try a small of the Fuji Apple sake. He was very personable, cool and pleasant with a friendly demeanor.
My Deef Pried Pork Chops arrive and it looks great. The deceivingly-heavy DF'd pork chops + some pickled cabbage(?) + cilantro + a decent bed of rice. The breading looked heavy, but I was surprisingly surprised at how medium and light it tasted. Warm and sufficiently moist with it's sublte(?) flavor. Mixing in the pickled veggie and cilantro every-other-bite and I cleaned up house in a good few minutes then neatly lined my utensils in the plate center. Awesome Asian Man (his spontaneous nickname) picked up my plate and seemed rather impressed, smiling. :)
At this point, getting ready to leave, I was pretty darned satisfied leaving 4 stars, but this next detail moved it to 5 for me:
I went to use the bathroom before leaving and really like how pleasant and tastefully designed the interior is for a strip mall plaza facility. Leaving the loo, I stopped at the large, dominating picture at back featuring a story of Boeing's first chief engineer, Wong Tsoo, and the picture of, I believe, Mr. Boeing next to one of the first bi-planes designed by Woo. I thought this was cool in how it shows them honoring a Chinese man who was a part Boeing's engineering roots back at the beginning of Boeing. I stood there reading this awesome picture and walked out, observing the many model airline planes along the way. -

Yea's Wok will always have a special place in my heart, if not only for the fact that I've been coming here ever since I was a strappin' young lad...
Objectively speaking, the food is just okay. The General Tso's Chicken used to be a favorite of mine here, but these days its pretty hit or miss. Its good if you can get a fresh batch, but unfortunately, as with many Chinese restaurants, often falls victim to hui guo (chicken that has already been cooked previously, then recooked).
The gan bian si ji dou (dry-fried green beans) has always been a staple for me, as well as the cui pi xia (battered deep fried shrimp in black bean sauce) and the calimari (served with ketchup and a salt&pepper mix).
When I think about Yea's Wok, I'm greeted with a flood of childhood memories (and that same damn piano soundtrack that they've been playing in the background for YEARS). Your personal results may vary. -

I'm definitely impressed with this place after my first visit! We arrived at an off time and didn't have a problem getting a table, but noticed that it did start filling up as we neared a more regular meal time (notes about take-out probably have some truth to them!).
Even though we received the recommendation to come here from someone who doesn't really venture far out of the "American-style" dishes, we still tried some of the less "Americanized" items on the menu. I had the pan fried sea bass with crunchy soy bean sauce and it was REALLY good. I liked the bit of spice - not too hot, but still some spiciness! - and it was really good with some steamed rice too. The fish was cooked pretty near perfectly too, just a few bones to pick out. The flavors were really good and it definitely had some layers/dimension to it. I definitely recommend this dish! My husband was going to order a short rib item from the regular menu, but our wonderful waiter recommended the special which was similar but also included rice and a meat sauce for the rice. This dish definitely met his approval.
All of the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive: our waters were filled when necessary and our waiter stopped to check to make sure our dishes were to our satisfaction.
Even though I enjoyed what I ordered quite a bit, I'm intrigued to try more of the items they offer here and continue to explore their menu. This place was definitely better than we expected it to be (despite the wonderful Yelp recommendations of course!), and I'm excited to go back in the near future! -

I love general Tso's chicken. Yea's wok has the best general tso's chicken I've ever had....ever! A group of four of us ventured into this little joint on demand of my growling tummy. I was hungry and dragged my friends along to eat. We ended up getting the brocolli beef, pork fried rice and general tso's chicken which was more than enough to feed me and three girls. The fried rice was dericious, the didn't skimp out on the meat and the servings for the other two dishes were generous. Price isn't bad at all either. This place attracts a pretty diverse crowd and seems relatively busy throughout the day. Definitely one of the better chinese restaurants i've ever been to.

Ordered fried rice and a chicken dish for take out last night, I have to agree with another reviewer that their food is a bit salty. It's not the worst I've ever had, but it wasn't anything to write home about either.
The reason for the low rating isn't because of the food quality, it's for the crappy comment the young female cashier made about my food order, "Is this your dinner? It's late." Seriously?! WTF?! Shouldn't you be thankful that I just ordered food and just gave you my business? Sadly a complete lack of customer service which is a sure fire way to lose business, and just plain stupidity.
Cashier chick, you should have kept your mouth shut and been thankful for my business, which by the way will be going elsewhere, thank you very much! -

Yea's Wok?... more like Yea's Wok right into the bathroom!
The food is so salty and so oily. Huge portions and cheap. But high quality fare it is not. If you are in the mood for super gut busting Chinese food this is the place for you my friend. -

Great selection of Chinese food. Sometimes there can be a really long wait at Dinner time. Food is really well made and very good portions. Sometimes I find some dishes relying on too much sauce, instead of the natural flavors of the ingredients. But, I always feels satisfied eating here.
Also has a English menu and a Chinese menu. Which are completely different food items. The English menu is Americanized and the Chinese menu is more akin to what you find in Asia. Food is well made and service is good. Only wish the Chinese menu is also in English, since I don't read that much Chinese. -

Review from Peter T.
My wife and I were here again for lunch on the weekend, and Yea's Wok is always fantastic. We had the veggie fried rice, sauteed asparagus, and yes, the crispy shrimp with sweet chili sauce. The veggie fried rice is excellent, has a great flavor with thin strips of snow pea and other veggies scattered throughout. The sauteed asparagus is mostly asparagus with some carrot and zucchini added, and the sauce is crazy good - lots of fresh ginger, but also this saltiness that was almost smoky. I assume the smoky flavor comes from the "breath of the wok" but still, it's delicious. And the family style portions are huge! We had so much that we ended up having the leftovers for dinner the next night. Except the crispy shrimp with sweet chili sauce, that is so good that we ate all of it right then and there.

My husband and I visited this restaurant last week for the first time. We've heard lots of good reviews of this place from our friends so we decided to give it a try.
We got there about 5pm and soon we were seated. We ordered Beef with Scallion, Shrimp sautéd with eggs. The dishes were served pretty quickly. The beef was great, the flavor was exactly what I expected for Taiwanese style. This dish does require experienced skillful technique to cook and we loved it. . We ordered Shrimp sauted with eggs but she brought us Egg Foo Young Shrimp. They have very similar ingredients but they are totally different dishes. We didn't complain since it was tasty and cooked perfectly. Taiwanese food doesn't taste heavy and greasy like most Chinese food and so the food doesn't lose the natural flavor. We were very happy with our dinner and we decided to order a dessert.
Our server was the only non Asian there and she could pronounce the dessert we wanted correctly in Mandarin, very impressive. We ordered Dou Sha Guo Bin. We waited for a while but it was totally worth it. It was hot and crispy and addictive. When we got to the last two pieces, we noticed a hair on the plate. When our server came around to ask us how everything was, I pointed out the hair on the plate. She apologized to us and immediately brought it back to the kitchen. Later, the manager or owner came out to apologize. She offered to take it off from our bill or give us a complementary dessert. We chose to have another dessert to go.
I was very impressed with their customer service. Normally I wouldn't expect any apology or compensation from a Chinese restaurant. But again, it's a Taiwanese restaurant and their food quality and service are definitely better than Chinese restaurants.
One thing I don't get is why they have two different kinds of menus. One in Chinese and another in English. The dishes are different on the two menus. It's odd.
Anyway, their dishes are superb and I definitely will go back there again. -
Review from Sharon L.
My dad discovered this place many years ago on one of his lunch breaks. I'm grateful that he did! This place has the best hot and sour soup. It's the first thing my family and I get. The hot and thick soup is amazing with the chunky mushrooms.
I love their moo shoo pork. I also would order the shrimp with tangy sauce. I definitely recommend it to shrimp lovers who also have a sweet tooth. The sauce is amazing! In any case, all of the chicken type entrees are good as well. The service is good and the owner is very friendly and caring to his customers.
Don't forget that it's an Asian restaurant. Expect lots of sugar and sodium! It's worth it though!
The serving sizes are great. You get what you pay for, in my opinion. -

A surprising delight of a Chinese restaurant. Service is great, as I don't usually don't expect much from restaurants in strip malls, but I guess I've been proven wrong. The restaurant's decor is a bit dated, but I guess at the a place like this, the food is what really matters.
We ordered the sea bass soup, pork chops, fried oysters, tofu skin + peas, and fried ice cream. They were all very delicious, but a little heavy with the oil for my liking. It by no means is drenched in grease, it simply has a little more than I would prefer. The fried ice cream, though, is absolutely bomb. I'd recommend eating it with your hands, it's like eating a fried marshmallow, it's fantastic. The wonton skin on that thing isn't too thick, so it's easy to bite through as your consuming that scrumptious thing. I've had Japanese tempura fried ice cream before, but this Chinese wonton fried ice cream is so much more brilliant!
I'm not sure how American the food really is here, as we had the hookups and ordered mostly normal Chinese food there. Being Chinese myself, I approve of this place. -

My favorite Chinese restaurant in town! They have the best service as well as the best food!!!!
-Sometimes you have to wait quite a bit, but if you call ahead you should be fine.
My favorite is the fried rice, mongolian beef etc.
Must try! -

THE BEST CHINESE IN GREATER SEATTLE! The place is usually packed with Asian families, there's usually a bit of a wait and they have two menus (1 in English, a seperate one in Chinese). These 3 qualities are a great sign you are some place special.

We were here on Sat night for a family dinner. It was delicious, which was a big surprise since I don't go to Chinese restaurants much. They even served Taiwanese foods, which I feel is difficult to find at times. (Or at least good Taiwanese food.) We had the typical banquet foods like walnut prawns. But the clam soup was definitely a twist from typical Chinese banquet menu. The fried ice cream at the end was really tasty!
Now here were couple of problems. The Taiwanese chicken bean curd roll featured raw chicken. They took it back to recook it. I think they just microwaved it. Anyhow, I didn't touch the dish again. I was already grossed out from putting raw chicken in my mouth. They admitted that these are precooked and frozen. They just throw them in the deep fryer, I think, when ordered.
The food was douced with tons of MSG. I was so nauseous and sick that night as well as the following day - very persistent. This told me how much MSG they added to their food. If you're sensitive to MSG, definitely don't go here. But I think most people are okay with MSG, because there were about 25-30 people waiting outside for their table. What a popular restaurant! If we ever return, I hope I can ask for no MSG to be added to our dishes. -

The best Chinese restaurant on the Eastside.Whenever I mention this place people nod with a smile.
I like almost any dish they serve, order comes out quite fast, not overcooked.Menu is extensive and available.
I wish that they are open on Mondays,my craving chinese kinda days....
One more suggestion..maybe..somehow..is there any way to create a bigger waiting area so people can have more space to wait for a table upfront?Seems like there is always an army of hungry, eyeballing the dining area.
I feel bad sitting and facing the door, there were times when I wanted to share my food with a stranger who waited patiently for a table.
It is a popular place so we try to get there as soon as it opens ... -

Seattle, WA
I remember the day I first tried Yea's 20 years ago. It was hands down the best Chinese on the East Side. The food was fragrant, savory and spiced like the Orient. It started out like a café with only about 6-8 small tables.
In the first decade they were open I watched Yea's go from a café to a bustling business. They have expanded into a large restaurant and on a Friday or Saturday night you can find as many as 50-60 people lined up on the sidewalk to get in.
This once Fortune Cookie of an establishment has Americanized so much that even the spiciest of dishes has been bathed in sweet and sour sauce.
No question that the food here is still worth your time, but I don't believe it's the best Chinese on the East Side. Personally I think "Best Wok" does it better, but you are talking the other side of Bellevue and a different class of people.
Yea's was the best until they sold out like the rest. -

This is one of my coworkers favorite spots for team lunches. The portions are big and the soup is fantastic. The lunch specials are impressive and it will take awhile to go through them all. The place is great for groups and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The staff even recognize us every time we're there, that's how popular this place is.

I should give it a 4 stars for the long waiting line and their strict reservation policy.
But, I love their food and service.
While the wait was unbearable, once we got a table the experience turned 180 degrees. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner there which took over half of the restaurant. My East Coast in-laws were so impressed they asked to come back to this place every time they visited us. Yes, the portion has gotten smaller thru out the years, but the quality is still there. I love their seabass, blackbean prawns, tea-smoked duck, and peppery chicken. Try to order from their "Chinese" menu or just point to the dish at next table. We always discover something new and delicious there. It is on my top 5 restaurants list in Seattle-Bellevue area. -

My wife and I tried Yea's Wok for the first time last night after getting the stamp of approval from our Chinese friend :)
General Tsao Chicken -- spectacular. Probably the best I've ever had
Mongolian Beef -- a bit too soupy for my liking. Not sure if this is the more authentic way, but i really like when the beef is slightly crispy on the outside, not just tender.
Chicken Chow Mein -- not bad, just nothing to rave about.
Experience -- a very well-run operation. They clearly have a large take-out contingent. I was in there for about 4 minutes and was one of 5 take out orders (on a Tuesday night, no less).
Overall, I think we'd come here again, but they're not so wow-some that they get the full on 5 star rating. -

I have long heard of the good food of their good food. Finally yesterday I got the chance to eat there with my friends. It is a Chinese restaurant that serves a wide variety of Chinese foods, like Shanghainese, Guangdong, and Huinan cusines, etc. They are always busy so make sure to make a reservation. They only take reservation for more than 6 people during weekdays.
Good portions. Generally good customer service, and very very tasty food. I espcieally like their Shanghai Sparerib and General Tsao's Chicken. It's a bit pricy though. I will definitely eat there again. -

Fast service, humongous portions, nice atmosphere. They just "get" it.
I wish they move to downtown bellevue, hehe.
Taste is not the best but I have yet to find a chinese restaurant that I could consider "very delicious". However it's good enough so I come back here again and again. If you are health conscious, don't come here because they do use a lot of oil. Don't eat dinner if you eat lunch here. I'm pretty sure you will gain weight. I'm just glad I have them in New Castle and Bamboo house in downtown bellevue.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I would rate this a four or five, but it's not going to be my 'go-to' place to get a bite of Chinese food. My husband and I are relatively new to the area and I chose Yea's based on it's reviews.
The dining area was fairly small, but very tidy from what I saw (I ordered take out.) Extremely busy, but they seemed to be keeping things in order. The food was middling at best and we're undecided if we'll go back since there are so many other places to get chinese food from. The food was hit and miss, one bite would be tasty and the next bland.
The takeout portions were huge, but I'd rather pay what they were asking for smaller portions if it was better quality. I'd give them higher points but the food wasn't really great or really bad, just middling. -

When your Chinese friend who is a total foodie recommends a Chinese restaurant, you know it'll be good, let's be honest :) Yeas Wok is a casual little restaurant located in a Newcastle shopping center and is always packed solid whenever we go. Here is what I l-o-v-e about Yeas:
* Super fast service
* Inexpensive
* Staff is friendly and on top of it with refilling waters and checking on us
* Large portion sizes, there's no messing around here
* Almost forgot -- the TASTY food, all of it!
I'd love to tell you the dishes we order but our friend orders speaking to the server in Mandarin and 8-10 dishes later, we are over stuffed and feeling super happy and fat. In our group there are a wide variety of food preferences (vegetarians, seafood lovers, different spice levels, etc.) so you'll find tofu, green beans, beef, fish, chicken and fried rice dishes on our table and we are all always satisfied. Oh! Oh! Oh! Make sure to save room for the Deep Fried Ice Cream for dessert, too. You can thank me later.
I stand by my word that Yeas Wok is a solid choice for great Chinese food! I'm sold...Listed in: Best Kept Secrets, Food Loving Friends

I love Yea's Wok. One of the best Chinese restaurants in town. Very authentic with authentic dishes. A not-so-authentic dish, General Tso's Chicken, is actually one of more favorites.
Most of the time, the salt and pepper prawns are really good.
Be prepared for huge portions! -

Yeas wok continues to disappoint as I've been a customer for over seven years ... the quality of their food has slowly diminished over time, especially the amount of meat they provide with each dish.
If this is the best Chinese in the NewCastle / Bellevue area then there is a lot of room for improvement. -
Review from Cindy C.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Bellevue.
I don't really know what else to say, but that if you are in the area, you should go check it out for dinner tonight.
I haven't had a dish here I don't like, and they do unique Taiwanese snack foods (stinky tofu, deep fried intestines, etc.) as well as more mainstream Chinese food... so there's really something for everyone... Oh, of course, they do all their dishes equally well.
I especially enjoy this one dish, vegetarian yellow canary, which, of course, is not actually a yellow canary. It's vegetarian you silly! LOL, I crack myself up. But in all seriousness, it's vegetables wrapped in bean curd skin and cooked with lots of flavor. And I get it every time!
Ok, I'm starting to drool and it's only 10 am.Listed in: My Seattle Life...

Came here after reading some reviews and glad I did. This is the first Asian restaurant I've ever been to where they have pagers for guests. BTW, PF Changs doesn't qualify as a real Asian restaurant. :p
It was pretty crowded when I came, but my friend and I were seated fairly quick considering. Ordered the sizzling chicken and garlic spinach which were both good. Also had the hot and sour soup, but it wasn't as good as some people have said. I definitely want to try sample more of their menu items next time.
The service was great when I was here. The waiters always made sure the water and tea were topped off without us having to ask. At first, I thought the entrees were overpriced, but when I saw the size of the servings, I changed my mind. I'll definitely be coming back here. -

Clams or shrimp with spicy black bean sauce, Shanghi ribs with baby bok choy, Yea's fried rice, mushu pork or chicken, lots of really good Taiwanese style food! Green beans with ground pork OMFG! Walk in, waddle out.
BUT there's a menu westerners usually don't see. Ever had jelly fish with tofu? Don't knock it if you aint tried it. I've had duck tongue so I'm a culinary adventurer. It has crunchy texture and no fishy taste at all. I've had jelly fish as a cold appetizer Gwang Zhou style (not sure about the spelling was Canton back in the day)
Dishes are well seasoned and every trip we try something new hence the jelly fish suggested by our designated menu consultant, Buck. We will try more items from the "Written in Chinese only menu" after consultation with Buck. When you go, ask for him and get ready for some adventurous palate pleasers! C'mon live a little.
As an Asian I LMFAO at you round eyes who keep eating General Tsao's chicken, orange chicken and beef broccoli. Get into the experience! Try chicken feet soup, sweet sour pigs feet, blood ball soup.
Dishes are priced $9-11 mostly but don't worry, you will have take out containers when you leave so divide your cost adding in the meals you will eat at home or take to work making it a great bargain.
GO, take a leap of faith! Ask for Buck and live a little. -

My relatives took my family here for a luncheon get together. The food was delicious and tasted fairly solid. It feels like nothing has changed much in the last few years between visits.
The portions are large and the pricing is fairly reasonable.
Highly recommend: sauteed pea sprouts, their broiled crisp crumb topped seabass dish. -

I haven't written a review about Yeas?
Umm can you say GENERAL TSOs CHICKEN w/ tenacious EGG DROP SOUP + a sea of people sharing their oversized community tables?
Yeas will seriously not disappoint. The General Tsos is seriously the best I've ever had. The only downside to this pearl is that you have to pry open the clam to see it's beauty aka driving seemingly forever to enter Newcastle.
At first I was like o__O during the long drive.
But then I was like ^__________^ when it hit my lips. -
Review from Cindy T.
Even though this place is a longer drive than Eastgate Chinese restaurants, I love to go here once in a while to get their yummy dishes. Every time I've been here (usually on a Sunday, during lunch) its always super busy, crowded with customers coming in and out. But, I always managed to get seated regardless. Their space is actually pretty big. When you walk in, you might think what you see is their whole restaurant, but they actually have another huge room around the corner. We are also always greeted by the same hostess! She's super sweet and cheerful.
In the back room, there are huge round tables, with the center spin, so if you are having a huge family gathering/party, its best to use that. The only times i've seen those tables are usually in the International District area! Service is also good, always have my water filled, clean, and better yet is their food. Any of their tofu dishes are a must try! Cooked just right, so much full of flavor. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. They charge rice, however by head count. About $1 per person. The good thing though, is that the rice is refillable. -

This place is one of the better chinese food serving restaurant in the Bellevue area. The service is very nice, portions are the right amount, and pricing is also appropriate. I tried various of their food, but I usually get their kung pao chicken.
Their food can get a bit salty when you go during their busy hours. -
Review from Bill S.
Bellevue, WA
I live about 2 miles from this place. I've only been there perhaps 3 or 4 times in as many years because I've yet to have a great meal there.. Frankly, I don't get the reason why it's reviewed so highly and why there is always a line out the door.
I decided to give it another chance 2 nights ago. Ordered combo fried rice, mu shu chicken, and ma po bean curd for carryout to share among the family.
The portions are indeed enormous. I walked away with perhaps 5 pounds of food, no joke. Opened the food at home with anticipation but was very much let down. The bean curd (2/10) was flavorless - really no flavor except for the pool of chili oil that it was floating in. The combination fried rice was fair (5/10) but not nearly as good as the combo fried rice at Green Village in Intl district. The mu shu was pretty decent (6.5/10); nice texture; not too greasy. So this makes my 4th or 5th "meh" experience there.
The only thing that I can think is that I must be ordering the wrong dishes or something. One reviewer mentioned "order off the Chinese menu". It's in Chinese so it's a bit tough but google translate seems to work OK on it. Some of the translated names make me scratch my head e.g "colorectal fried basil" - must be tripe -- but you can pretty much work out what stuff is.
I would love to find out that i've actually got excellent Chinese food close by. I've just really struggled to find it at Yeas. Suggestions welcomed and thanks to C.S. for the suggested dishes on the Chinese menu. -

Average. General Tso's tasted great, but the chicken was dried out and chewy. The Shrimp & asparagus was pretty decent.
I'd go back, but try something else.
