The whole 45 minutes I was in there, I was captured by this thought: "There's a small mall dedicated to Asians!? " It was just hard to wrap my mind around honestly.
This place has a food court which I would give as standard food court quality. It wasn't amazing, but it was food. It was only cool, 'cause it was all Asian foods. They have a grocery mart inside and other little stores which sell typical quality of items that your would find in Asian.
There was a whole store dedicated to herbs.
Parking is really tight. We went around lunch time and I felt like a lot of people were trying to find a parking spot. Luckily, we got one. -

Somehow, I always end up stopping by here everytime I visit Richmond. I think, wait, I know its because of the bakery they have here.
Fresh breads, pastries, buns, and whatever carbs you want! Tasty stuff, but go earlier as they tend to run out of certain things by the end of the day.
On the upside, they have end of day specials on prepackaged fresh foods. I got some dim sum sticky rice and froze it one I got home.
Everything is fresh, not overly salty or sweet. Good stuff, but it can get packed. -

Parking aside (always a personal gripe) this place still rocks for Asian whutevah ya need.
I'm still wary of some of the ingredients in some of the packaged foods but the fresh veggies are always good here. Espeically for the mushrooms and the organic salads that come in those containers. Most of they time they're cheaper than what you pay for at Safeway. Usually because Asians don't really eat raw salads?
And those lovely as American as Apples can be imported from
China. and sold for consumption in Canada. Sometimes I miss the home grown fruits and veggies, which if in season, you can still buy.
At least here you can get the exotic fruits and veggies that you can't get at thier sister chain Loblaws/superstores or a Save-On or Safeway.
The Osaka market at the Yaohan Centre is unique and is also a part of the TNT/Loblaws food store chain.
The food court is always busy and serves food a great prices.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Not the best Centre but there is free WiFi in the food court! Food court is also rather large. Mainly Chinese boutiques. The parking lot is rather large. Conveniently located by President's Plaza and Aberdeen Centre. Adjacent to the Centre is a place to exchange foreign currency with decent rates. Overall, decent place with mainly Chinese people.

We had a quick bite at this food court which has at least 13 or more varieties of fast food restaurants. Prices are not expensive at all.
We also ordered a rice wrap filled with 4 kinds of food at your choice for $2.99 inside the supermarket (Osaka?) there where we picked up lots and fresh bakery items (T&T?) including many loafs of the square breads, wheat, multigrain, some with red bean filling, onion and ham...............just came out from the oven.
This is a small center as compared with other bigger ones. such as Metro Town in Burnaby which is more newer and huge that has more up scaled shops...... that was where we were heading to shop next....................... -

This is one of my must stop places when I visit Richmond/Vancouver. The Osaka Supermarket is where we grab our stuff for hot pot, and also grab lots of pre-made food for a great, fast lunch or dinner. If those options weren't enough, there are plenty of options in the food court as well. There are several stalls which sell very similar items with 3-item meals for $5.99 (after 8PM, you can choose 3 large portion entrees for $12 - 2 meat and one veg). There's also a decent bubble tea place too. The only downside is that parking can be hard to find. If I lived nearby, I'd be coming here all the time.

Just got back from Yaohan Centre. This place is a sure bet if you're not sure where to go around Richmond.
There's a huge food court on the ground level selling a variety of Asian food fare. We got there around 8pm, and a few Chinese stir-fry stalls were dishing out specials: a $10 meal fit to feed a family of four people. We chose fried rice, sweet and sour pork, mixed vegetables and tofu. OMG, the two of us didn't even come close to finishing it. Definitely value for money, and reasonably tasty too.
If lunch or supper isn't what you're looking for, then head on over to check out Osaka Supermarket which is essentially the upscale counterpart of the T&T supermarket chain. There's a bakery attached to the entrance where you can get your typical Asian pineapple bun, egg tarts, red bean pasties, creamed sponge cakes, the works. Today, the place was exceptionally festive with Lunar New Year decorations and festival items on sale.
Visiting Yaohan Centre is like going back to Asia. LOL. -

OSAKA SUPER MARKET!
I've been coming to Yaohan Centre for as long as I can remember. I used to come up to Vancouver all the time when I was younger.
What I love about this place is how affordable and great quality all of the produce and food is.
The Osaka Super Market is full of fresh fruits, veggies, snacks, take out, meats, drinks, and a full bakery!
I love to get the specialty breads here, as well as the Asian toast. The egg tarts here are also really, very good.
I really like the take out food here, including the sticky rice balls! They are custom made with your choice of purple or white rice. I like the purple rice with pork sung, tea egg slices, pickled vegetables, and sausage. Yum! The pig ears and bean curd threads are also yummy.
I haven't been back for a while, I hope to venture out to here as often as I used to!Listed in: Feeling Asian?

Where the Asian girls/guys hang out! I love this place because this is considered a a mixture of Japanese and Chinese shopping mall in Vancouver and it's great because I'm half Japanese/Chinese too :)
If you're from Los Angeles, this place is like FOCUS PLAZA in San Gabriel, but better in my opinion because I like how it's laid out and it's easier to navigate around and also because the supermarket has Japanese food and Japanese bookstore on the second floor. I think that Focus Plaza caters mostly to Chinese people.
I didn't try anything from the food court on the first floor, but it looked really nice and it was spacious. I guess it is a great place to go for CHEAP Chinese food/delicacies that reminds you of food from back home :)
A great place worth checking out in VANCOUVER!
PS: I came here with a white guy and he was the only Caucasian there so there were some stares but we had fun anyway! So be prepared to get stared at, but that shouldn't be a concern :)Listed in: Some fun places to shop :)

This is my favorite mall in the area. Why? It has the best food court - just about anything you want or had while growing up in HK you can find here. This was the mall where I found the spicy fishball that reminded me so much of my childhood days in HK. I can eat them nonstop until my stomach explode and I tend to do that often, along with the pig skin and pig intestines - just goodness that bring back memories. Besides the food court, I also enjoy the supermarket inside the mall where you can get some tasty buns, some tasty treats at the deli, inexpensive sushi...etc. There are also a couple stores that sell VCDs and DVDs where we always pick up some movies.
I miss this place...why can't SF pull together a place like this?!? -

If you're bored like we were and looking for something to do at 9pm on a weeknight, check out this grocery / shopping center / food court in Richmond BC. There were definitely some good eats there (check out the other reviews) although most places were closed by the time we came through.
The huge grocery store closes at 9:30pm so we spent most of their time in there eyeing all the Asian goods, seafood, meats, produce, etc. The bakery had some nice stuff and I picked up some stuffed mochi balls which were great.Listed in: Vancouver and Richmond, BC

all i can say about this place is.... food court cheap eats after 830pm.. holla!!!..
before the end of the night, the food vendors need to get rid of the food some how so they lower down the price by almost 60% eg: 5 big items for only 6 bucks ;) left-overs anyone ? .... k im done... -
Review from Jando S.
Yaohan was the first major Asian supermarket of its kind I had ever seen and sadly I have yet to see any live up to its standard. This place has it all, the compliments of many honger businesses ranging from boutique stores to mini-dress shops, video games, car accessories, and an awesome food court. The parking can be a bit messy during peak times, but with enough patience spots tend to open up fast. Things are constantly changing here and every time I come here I always notice something is under construction and there are new stores abound.
Most of the Asian supermarkets that I've seen have always lacked something that Yaohan had. Uwajimaya, Viet Malls in OC don't hold a candle to Yaohan's mega sized store of needs. There is no Chinese bias here, just simply a lot of respect for the treasure that Richmond has in Yaohan. -
Review from Amary N.
Yaohan supermarket is convenient. When I'm too lazy to cook and I can pick up the meals at their hot deli. Lucky for the people in Richmond. There are a lot more choices! They have a Western bakery which isn't too bad (3/5) Including cakes, breads, cookies and pastries.
Or I can also dine at the food court. My favorite is the guy who sells congee and noodles. I don't like the Curry and Korean food stall.
Like Asian malls they have gift shop, boutiques, CD shop. Located upstairs and it's pretty quiet. Nothing exciting up there. But, I come here to browse for kitchen appliances. Or to look at real estate in the BC area that I may consider purchasing.
It seems that I always run into some old friends in Yaohan. Even those that I hardly see. I see them here. -

This was like an oasis in the desert.
We had been eating such crappy food on our trip and just came across this shopping centre. I was all smiles when we walked in here. From Osaka Supermarket to the huge food court with all sorts of Asian food stalls, our entire family was in heaven.
Yaohan, I *heart* you! -

This is one of the many Chinese shopping centers that you'll find around VBC and Richmond; however this one remains one of the best in my books. Sure, it's not as new as Aberdeen but it's got a much better food court than Aberdeen. There is so much to choose from here and it's dirt CHEAP! Let me repeat, it's dirt CHEAP! You can stuff yourself for under 10 dollars and also get a bubble tea or gui ling goa. Besides universal health care, this is probably the 2nd best reason to immigrate to Canada.
Oh yeah, bring CASH, no credit accepted in the food court! -

I love the supermarket here and all the little stores - we wound up spending lots at this place! I will definitely be coming back here on my next visit.

Very nice. Yaohan has everything - grocery, bakery, place to chop thin sliced meats for hot pot at home, sushi, hot foods, cold foods, even rice cookers.
Yes, it it even has the crowds, a cramped parking lot, and bad drivers. -
Review from Helen G.
I love Osaka Supermarket; it has wonderful selection of fresh seafood and prepared food items. Everytime I am in Vancouver, I drop by this place to buy fresh sweet shrimp (amaebi) in the seafood section and their rice roll in their prepared food area. Their amaebi is good portion and really sweet. You eat it fresh and raw with ponzu sauce. YUMMY! The rice roll is the dried dough, pork shreddings, vinegared vegetables, and whatever you choose to put in the roll and it is all wrapped with glutinous rice. This is a typical comfort food for me. I buy it and eat it as a snack. They also have a wonderful bakery in this supermarket. This place is always packed, especially during the weekend and finding a parking space is difficult. You basically have to scope people who are leaving and follow them to their parking spot.

YAY!!! An asian store that I think is better than Ranch 99!! Lots of food and plenty of variety to stuff your baskets with. And the baskets are the wagon type so you're pulling that thing like you're lugging your treasures to your special place.
There's too many places to see and I love their bread counter...yummy mango promotion. Mango loaves and mango pudding? HAHAH...I love it! -
Review from Wai W.
Very good Asian shopping mall, beside Toronto, Vancouver has the next best Asian shopping malls in North America. You hear that California??? When I was working in Washington (Bangor, Bremerton and Seattle), I would frequently drive 2.5-3 hours to Vancouver. I would stop by Yohan Centre and see what they have.
On the first floor, half of the Yohan Centre is a big and clean Asian supermarket. They have all kinds of fresh Chinese groceries and yummy pastries. Once, I bought a 12" Hazelnut cake and flown it back to Ohio. Yea yea, they put my cake thru the Xray machine... sigh. The cake was really good minus the radiation, not too sweet, just like the one in Hong Kong. Very impressive with the stuffs they sell.
On the other side of the Yohan Center, it's a very large food court. A lot of small vendors selling Chinese deli... BBQ pork, Congee, many many things. Cheap and good eats.
Second floor has few shops... but not as busy as first floor. Not much to see. I usually just hang around the first floor... yummy food court... and food sample at the supermarket.
Parking can be a pain, but luckily there's a parking garage next to Yohan Centre. -

From a fully functional perspective the Yaohan is fine. It has a great huge grocery store, a solid food court and other amenities that suit the needs of most shoppers. That said as a Vancouverite who rarely ventures out to 'burbs as far as Richmond, Yaohan has little to offer to draw me in.
Most of the other great Richmond malls feature either enough stores or enough interesting asian goods to make them worthwhile. Yaohan is pretty small compared to Aberdeen, which is right across the street and features more interesting stuff played across much more space.
There's nothing wrong generally with Yaohan. If you need something form it and are local, it's a great place to head. Otherwise, unless you're looking for some good food options in the area, there's not much that ought to attract you here. -

This food court has some really tasty food but is supplemented with mass amount of MSG that leaves you thirsty all day long.

I can't get enough of this place! It's like Kent's Great Wall Shopping Mall but with more people, more great places to eat, and fresher produce and baked goods!
The first time I ever went was with the hubby and it was love at first sight, taste, and smell. Aside from all the little restaurants/stands to choose from for cheap eats, they have a ton of stores to browse and window shop through. I'd visit again, and again, and again. -
Review from J K.
T&T market rocks. I love it. I wish we'd have one in the Bay Area. If we did, I'm sure it would become run down and dirty like Ranch 99 in no time.
The shops upstairs are nothing special. There's a Japanese bookstore (the only one I know of in the GVA), but it's a bit pricey compared to Kinokuniya in SF.
The food court is pretty decent. Unlike the other area food courts, this one stays open late -- until 9pm. My one complaint is that there are far too many steam tables offering the same thing for the same price -- 4 items on rice for $5.50. It's a pretty good deal, but it's extremely MSG-sy. Closer to closing time (after 7:30pm), the steam table vendors will start liquidating their offerings for a ridiculously low price of 4 large orders for $10 (a large order is comparable to a family-style dish ordered at a Chinese restaurant). That's right, 4 for $10, or $8 USD! -

Yaohan Grocery is 4 star, and they even have a Sweet & sour vegartarian dish!!
rest of the mall are only ok.... -
Review from Kel M.
The Osaka Super Market has an excellent bakery section of various asian baked goods. The centre food court has japse/chinese/thai/korean foods. The chinese food court has a dinner special $5.50 four choices--and tasted great! Also, you just have to be lucky to find a parking spot.

Love it here ! Though honestly, since we are only in vancouver for a day or two each time, all we buy are the made to order rice rolls. I get mine with black sticky rice and get them rolled with three different dishes. Sooo delicious !!!

I agree with most of the comments here. This has been a must stop on my monthly dim sum runs from Bellingham. After having an early meal at the Jade or another restaurant I typically head to the YC. I fill up in the grocery store then hit the food court. Favorites include a coconut and herbal jello drink at the tea shop, Malaysian fried rice at The Curry House, lamb kabobs at the eastern place in the corner, a pound of BBQ pork and a mango smoothie. Most of this to savor over the next few work days. A Nexus pass makes the reentry relatively painless. And I'm back in Bham by noon. Perfect weekend morning.

this used to be one of my favorite chinese malls to stop at in richmond! but now puzzleland is gone as is the candy store (i don't recall the name). makes me hella sad. the only reason it still gets 3 stars is because of the juice king in the food court. honey lemon green tea, watermelon juice, and assorted other hk style cold drinks and desserts keep me coming back - especially on hot summer days. i've been to several of the joints in the food court too. prices are cheap but not always the greatest. still, more hits than misses here. osaka grocery store is nice for more japanese inspired items vs the mainly chinese grocery stores.

Review from Corrine C.
We have to come here everytime we're in Canada to get my grocery shopping done. The snacks, bakery, ramen, drink selection is great! They have a parking lot but it's crazy out there. The food court is large, cheap, and has plenty of options for everyone. The shops upstairs are ok. Nothing too exciting there. Note- there is a candy store upstairs. If you see something interesting, you might want to wait and check the prices downstairs in the grocery store. I bought a super big box of lemon tea for $1.19 and it was on sale downstairs for $0.88. oh well!

Review from Wing M.
I try to come here every time we're in Richmond. Osaka Supermarket aside, the place has a few pretty good stores. The Japanese bookstore, the snack store and the puzzle store on the second floor are especially fun, but that's about it for shopping. The food court though is the best part of the place. Cheap noodles and rice plates, authentic herbal teas (one of few such tea shops in North America) and a great coffee place that does great Hong Kong style drinks make this the best food court ever. Emphasis on cheap here, since the prices are really good.
