Easiest review ever:
BEST CHINESE FOOD IN OTTAWA.
Done!
The ambiance is well above-average; the food is quite tasty; the service was even decent! I didn't think Ottawa would have anything like West Coast Chinese restaurants -- but this is pretty close!! They even had a above-average Asian/Caucasian customer ratio (my personal way to measure Chinese authenticity).
...however, prices are nearly double that of my favorite comparable restaurants around San Francisco. It's about $30 per person here -- yikes!
I'd like to come back here and try their dim sum next time!Listed in: Food, eh?!

It was really hard to review this, in ottawa terms this is a 4 star rating but if I was in a large Asian community such as SF or LA this place would be a 2 star at that.
Sadly, this is the best Chinese food in Ottawa. The food is expensive (25-30 a person)
GET me out of OTTAWA! I need some REAL Asian food! -

came here specifically for a wedding and being part of the minority that is unmarried, i was recruited to help decorate.
you can decorate as you like and we had the whole upper floor.
we had white lit arches for posing with the bride and for entering the restaurant. a table for checking in guests and signing the book was right before coming in.
bartenders were all set for you to grab a drink before heading to your assigned table.
small dance floor. decent sound system. the food was tasty and the service was prompt.
the downstairs was open to the public and it was packed.
if you have ever attended an asian wedding, you'd know it's an all day affair so by mid evening, i was ready for bed! -

Decent. Not sure if I'll be back again.
They screwed up a few times on the orders through ought the night. Maybe it was just an off day.
The service could be a bit friendlier as well since it is one of the "fancier" chinese food sit in restaurants. -

Ottawa, ON
I've been to this restaurant many times, and it never disappoints! The decor hasn't changed in what seems like a lifetime, but the food has stayed deeeeelicious! The dim sum is pricier than other places, but that's because the sizes are so large, and as a big bonus, it's offered all day :) It can get pretty packed on the weekends, especially during happy hour, so you may need to take a number and wait awhile, though the restaurant has an upstairs AND downstairs to accommodate everyone. For larger groups, they have tables with lazy Susans or you can rent a private party room. They also have banquet and wedding menus.
This is the only restaurant I've been to in the Ottawa area that makes Szechuan beef the way my family has always eaten it - battered, fried crispy, and smothered in a sweet and spicy chili sauce. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Most recently, my family and I had the Yangtze fried rice and beef sizzling plate, which came with onions and celery. Everything was reasonably priced, delicious, and served very quickly. They also offer delivery and the quality of food preparation and taste is no different, but there are areas they won't deliver to, so when calling for delivery, it's best to ask first if your area is included. -

I'm in Ottawa on Business. It's raining and I have no car. The hotel food is horribly expensive. I look on Yelp and find Yangtze. Good reviews AND they do delivery. I call and they tell me . . . sorry, no delivery tonight because we are short staffed. Humph. Disappointed.

I recently attended the dim sum lunch, which apparently lasts from 12-2pm. While I found that food good, it wasn't outstanding dim sum. Almost all the dishes were either pork or shrimp, without great variety and almost no vegetarian dishes. What was more disturbing is that the food essentially ran out by 1:30pm. There were few desserts after 1:30, and the remaining dim sum was really left-over. I understand the need to arrive early, but if you advertise the time as 12-2pm, I'm not certain why diners need to rush through their meals in orders to get the full variety.
As an example of the lack of variety on our arrival at 1pm, none of Minh D's suggested dishes (see below) were offered to us - not one! -

When it comes to traditional Chinese food, the pickings are a bit slim in Ottawa. Yangtze is pretty far from "traditional" and isn't even the best in Ottawa, but it's pretty decent overall. It doesn't do anything amazingly well, but it doesn't do any horrible either, most dishes are just solid.
If you're not looking for a very specific Chinese cuisine (Northern, Schezuan, etc.) or looking for a place to go with friends who aren't Asian foodies, then Yangtze is a very safe bet in Ottawa.
Dishes I typically order are:
- Beef Hunan Style
- Schezuan Shrimp
- Lobster with Ginger Shallot Sauce
- General Tao Chicken
- Chinese Snow Pea tips with Garlic Sauce -

Haven't been back to this Dim Sum place in over 14 years, but as I recall, the Dimsum was fantastic. Pretty authentic dishes, and one of the best Dim sum place in Ottawa. The asian competition in Ottawa is somewhat limited, so this definitely is a front runner for best Chinese food in town.
The decor is pretty nice for a Chinese restaurant, and is located on the 2nd floor of the building. Food is served fresh, you won't get cold dim sum dishes. The Chef definitely knows what they are doing. -

Fun place, and worth a visit. Weddings, parties - it's an Ottawa institution that is an anchor of Chinatown. Dim sum is their specialty, but their other meals are good too.

This is the place for dim sum in Ottawa. When we travel, we are always searching for great dim sum. Look no further. We dined mid-day Saturday and the dim sum carts were racing around the place stocked with a great variety of dim sum.
Parking can be difficult in Chinatown, but it's worth the wait. -

I've been here twice and I've found the food to be satisfying. Last time I was here, my family had the pulled beef stew, the tofu pot, a plate of Chinese broccoli, and black bean squid. The food was served quickly, was always hot. The squid was cut and cleaned correctly, the black bean sauce was perfect (not too salty) and the tofu pot was average. Our only complaint was the Chinese broccoli was extremely bitter (which can happen sometimes). So we sent it back and they made another dish of watercress for us and charged us less for the meal. They kept the tea pot refilled rather quickly (we opened the lid when the teat was done and they took it within 1 minute) and the tea was decent quality.

If you want authentic chinese food in Ottawa go to Yangtze.A whole steamed fish with ginger & scallion, stir fry Chinese greens, shrimp with
scrambled eggs are all excellent.Really good dim sum fill out a great
menu selection that would stand up even in New York 's Chinatown.
The staff is good and quite helpful (if you ask).
The place is large & the decor is pretty good....remember,this is Ottawa
and the choices are more limited than other Canadian cities.
Lastly, there are lots of Chinese people eating here and thats the best guarantee for a good & authentic meal.

Now this is serious dim sum! It was so good, and so much variety. The place was packed when I went there on a Saturday afternoon. The carts came around quickly and often and had everything you could imagine. So delicious and reasonable prices too. Don't let the nearby construction scare you away.
