Over the past few months, I have been in and out of Yaletown Pet Hospital with my pup, who was lost by the l 'Dog Taxi' business and returned days later with pretty bad injuries. (Thats another review)
From the very moment I found out my pup was lost they were right by my side, giving me advice on what to do. You can tell that all the Vet Techs and Front staff love their jobs and truly care about animals well being - as well as the owners.
A long story short - My shy pup, actually loves her visits and I do too. -

I love my pupp, but first time shots were WAY too pricey. I was also told to wait in the room while the vet was to retrieve some de-worming medication and paperwork, so I waited. And waited. And waited. I was 30 minutes in, when my patience ran thin. (Poetic, I know.) At that point, this relatively pissed-off customer walked to the front only to have the staff scramble to find the doc's envelope with de-worming meds and a receipt inside. In other words, I was forgotten, and slammed with a heavy bill. Nice.

Been a client since 2006. Never had any issues with them before. Owners of 2 dogs or cats beware whenever you make an appointment for your 2 pets please make sure you DOUBLE or TRIPLE check to make sure appointment is for 2 not 1 and ALWAYS make sure you get the name of the person you talked to. Just because of this screw-up we're switching vet. I'm sorry to say if they could screw this one simple appointment up who knows there's a very high chance they might mess other things up. When it comes to my 2 little pooch there's just no room for error.

This vet is as good as it gets, as far as I know. They did a good stitch job on my baby dog, and they really care about her. Every vet here minus one middle-aged man is amazing. They truly focus on your pet and try their hardest to remedy a situation. They are also great at calling when your pet is due for a shot, and they send every invoice via email, which is super handy. I like the way they handled my dog before during and after surgery. They really care here.

Review from Darcy C.
I have an big older dog- almost 13, and these guys have really turned his life around for the better! Excellent recommendations for his arthritis, they handled a surgery and tooth extraction beautifully, they've been very cool with me. Dr. Vandermeer rocks! It's a very friendly clinic- everyone there knows my dog's name and fusses over him, gives him lots of low cal treats. One of the front desk staff stopped me on the street to ask how he was after his surgery.
I don't know as I'm new to BC, but I suspect they may be a bit spendier than some other options. But, truly excellent service and great care for my dog- I know he's in good hands with them. -

With my new Puppy by my side ready for his first Vet visit, Yaletown Pet Hosp was highly recommended and we where told do not be put of by the name or location... and the source was right.
Located in the heart of town, these friendly warm helpful staff and Vets are a cool great bunch, and their prices do not reflect the location.
After our visit we had follow up questions, the Vet called back promptly with all of our answers and seemed to really love their job. They where also very easy to get in on with our first emergency , and didnt seem to be bothered as it was after their hours.
I highly recommend these guys as they are professional and super friendly with real good pet side manners -

dr. spooner is professional and gentle with my dog ... staff are friendly and helpful ... a little more expensive to go here but the care they give is worth it ... my little dog tore her dew claw one time and i brought her to a budget vet as i could not get in right away to yaletown ... it was cheap where i brought her but the care was just okay ... her dew claw was broken in half and bleeding and the budget vet removed it without sedation and my pooch screamed and screamed ... a year or two later she broke the damn thing again and this time i brought her to yaletown ... they gave her sedation and dr spooner was so gentle with her i thought at first he was afraid she would bite him (she is not a biter), but when i realized that was just his demeanor i thought he was pretty nice ... it did cost three times more but when my pooch is in pain i just gotta pay it :o)
April 7, 2010 - my dog had surgery at yaletown done by dr spooner for two lumpectomies and to have her teeth done ... the lumps were being sent for biopsies and i was awaiting the results .... i received a call one evening at quarter to seven and right before i picked up the phone, the other person hung up ... i called back repeatedly and excessively until the clinic was closed ... as the evening progressed i was convinced my dog had cancer because good news is left on a message (at least that is what dr spooner has done twice in the past when my dog had bloodwork, he left a message saying everything was fine) ... so in my worry and stress i sent yaletown pet hospital an email (which i ran by my friend to make sure it was not just my emotions speaking) in which i said i thought it was unprofessional and somewhat cruel when someone is awaiting cancer results to call, not leave a message and then not even answer the phone when i called back within seconds of the call ... well a dr. archuk called me the next day bright and early after i had been up most of the night worrying and spent about 10 MINUTES berating me for the email i sent ... she then angrily proceeded to tell me my than one of my dog's tumors was squamous cell carcinoma, she gave me no prognosis and got off the phone, her intense dislike very evident ... all based on one email in which i feel (and my friend) was completely a valid email to send, i do think what she did was cruel and unprofessional ... i was also confused why dr archuk who was supposed to have nothing to do with my dog's surgery, which i confirmed before the surgery (not because i had anything against dr. archuk, i didn't even know who she was, i just wanted to know who was doing the surgery on my dog), why she was even calling my in the first place ... since no prognosis was given i googled and called my friend who is a vet in ontario and the prognosis was not good, that she would die ... and on a trip back for another checkup or maybe when her sutures were removed i had a chance to speak to dr spooner and i asked him about prognosis and he said she is just fine ... i was floored ... so i asked him what kind of cancer she has and he told me she had basosquamous cell carcinoma but the margins were clear so she is fine ... NEVER did the archuk person (i won't even call her a vet and even person is now pushing it in my books) say anything about margins or nothing AND she gave me wrong cancer name !!! i wrote down what she said so i could talk to my friend who is a vet and i know for sure she told me squamous cell carcinoma ... which is more serious than basosquamous cell carcinoma and never did she mention margins ... her main concern of the phone call was for me to be clear that my email is what made her angry and not about my dog's results ... i have worked at the children's hopsital (and not to compare kids to dogs, but dogs are a very important part of a family) and if a surgeon spoke to a parent that way, they would not last very long as a pediatrician ... i did consider writing a letter to the bc vet association but in my mind that is like complaining to the police about the police, pretty much a waste of time ... and to be fair, i have only every hear nice things about archuk but for me people's true personality shines through in disagreements ... she owes me an apology is the way i look at it, but i won't hold my breath ... and even if that woman is a bit of a b-i-t-c-h, i sure am happy my dog is not dying ... it is just upsetting i had to wait weeks thinking she was dying until dr. spooner told me she wasn't ... in my opinion, a call should be made by the surgeon after a surgery to say how things went and a call from the same vet to discuss results ... i really don't think those are crazy expectations ...
EDIT: i am now banned from the clinic ... my dog's records forwarded to me ... two BLATENT lies in the records and dr. spooner did not even dictate an operation report of the surgery until this all came about ... very unprofessional ... sometimes you don't get what you pay for ...
