Very tiny restaurant located steps away from the Metrotown bus loop, under the ancient famous players theater.

I've been coming to this Japanese joint for a really long time. It's one of those places that I never really think to go to, but if I walk by, I'll make a detour because it's very good!

The prices for their food are very reasonable and service is exceptional. On top of all of that, the last time I came here, they had a no HST special!  I don't think it was even advertised on the front of the restaurant, they just surprised us and put a smile on our faces when they gave us our bill.

    Definitely a must try!

A small, family-owned(?) place is exactly what this place is.

As I write this, it is summertime - and with the heat outside, comes the heat inside as well - no AC blasting in your face, but AC at all.  It was definitely warm inside - but hey, it'd be probably too much expect luxury air conditioning given the tiny place.

The young waitress was friendly and fairly quick to seat us(2 adults + 1 toddler - we brought our own booster chair).  Food quality was fairly decent, fried chicken was surprisingly excellent on the bento box, while the rolls were average, but good size, tasted fairly fresh and not obscenely sized like other wanna-be sushi places(you know who you are.  Sushi is supposed to fit in your mouth in ONE bite).  The salmon nigiri was cut too long.  There shouldn't be a tail that you have to practically wrap around the rice in order to fit it into your mouth(you're guilty of this too, Sushi Garden).  Remember, people.  More quantity does not equal quality.

Honestly this place deserves the business that the horrible-by-comparison Sushi Garden across the street on Kingsway is getting(spotted ppl lining up outside as I drove off).

In the end, remember this is a small place, but can't really argue with the price, nor the quality of the food, which is fine, just not awesome.  It's too bad that I can't give 3.5 stars, because that's really what it deserves(4 stars is too much).  It may not be awesome...but hey it's just fine.

Not impressed.  Tempura was oily; chicken teriyaki not even good.  California roll and SSCC roll unimpressive.  Prices reasonable, portions large, staff friendly enough and service was good, but I have to rate it low because of the taste of the food.  Meh.

I love Sushi. The only problem is that I am on a special diet at the moment and I can't have anything Vinegar based and was saddened to find out that the rice they use for the Sushi has vinegar in it, therefore, I only had steamed rice. The guy that I am dating had a spicy tuna roll. He seemed happy with it, therefore, no complaints in the food department.

I had a Groupon, however, given the temporary dietary restrictions, I will have to come back another day. The good news is that it is in Metrotown right by my place.

The waitress was very friendly and quick to seat us, however, the service was very very slow and there was only 4 people in the restaurant, one of whom was already served. It took 25 minutes just for 1 roll.

I am all in favor of small mom and pop shops, however, I can understand why people would be detoured from coming here if the service is slow as Sushi made fresh is supposed to be a healthy alternative to semi fast food.

Just when I thought I couldn't love this place more! Want an awesome, cheap, bento box at lunch time? Look no further! Not only do they have lots of options that vary in price $7-10, but between 11 and 2:30 there's no HST. The fish is still fresh, the waitresses are still sweet, the green tea still keeps on coming and so do the memories! The tempura portion in  the bento box is massive, the gyoza delicious, the salad is decent and the California rolls are 8 generous pieces that don't skimp on the fish. Even their miso soup tastes better, it has more flavour, somehow. It would hurt me emotionally if this place closed down.

We used to live very close to Yakko and frequented there. Amazing service, very sweet waitresses, and good food.

It can get a bit crowded in there, but they do a great job.

Always gets the orders right, I think once they made a mistake and were quick to amend it AND gave a discount on the bill.

Great sushi. Perfect spicy tuna rolls (if you like those, that is), take out is great too, just call ahead and it's generally ready in 15 or less.

Somewhere down the road, I started to think of sushi as comfort food. I love Japanese food, and nothing gives me more pleasure than finding out-of-the-way restaurants that prepare good sushi.

At Station Square mall, beside Metropolis at Metrotown, there's a small Japanese restaurant called Yakko Sushi. It's not a fancy place, just a few tables. I've been there a few times, and I've always found the service attentive and the food good. The prices are competitive.

I had the California Combo ($8.99) and it consisted of 2 pieces each of tuna, salmon & ebi sushi and a California Roll. Not a bad deal for a lot of food. And it was very good and very fresh.

I also had the Appetizer-Size Tempura ($5.50) I thought it was a little pricey for the amount of tempura you get. The tempura sauce was very good, and the tempura wasn't very oily, which I liked.

I would come back again, next time probably for lunch since I work so close. They have a special on right now -  from 11 am until 2:30pm they pay the HST. Very clever way to get new lunch customers.

Near Metrotown? Want Sushi? Don't want to far? Come to Yakko sushi.

It is by far the best joint in the Metrotown area. Sure, it's not all you can eat, but it sure beats all the sushi places inside Metrotown itself and a few near it as well.

I came here with a few friends after a movie one night. Even though it was past last call, they welcomed us in. We got salad on the house, and I had the beef teriyaki donburi. Though it was a little too oily, it was not at all bad. Their salads are great, and all their rolls are something addictive. It wasn't at all expensive either.

Want sushi? don't question twice. Come here. (or to Kingsway Sushi if you're after all you can eat.)

One of my favorite everyday dining joints. For what you pay the quality of the sushi is excellent! That said, the whole menu is very reasonably priced and the service is excellent! Not a massive place but big enough to cater to the passing traffic. For 1 person or a couple this one is a quick lunch or dinner gem!

I visited Yakko again and was more impressed, I steered clear of the nasty veggie roll combo and instead got a yam tempura roll, avocado roll and some inari. The yam tempura was soo fresh, first time I have had a yam tempura roll and it was still hot, it was damn good. The rest of the meal was as to be expected however I was disappointed that I couldn't order hot food because the kitchen was closed yet they kept bringing out hot stuff people had already ordered for the next half hour!

a cool hole in the wall sushi joint.. located in station square below the theatre in the walk way that leads to the bus loop at metrotown

excellent prices and fresh food!  i've never tasted an alaska roll like theirs.. a nice take drizzled in a tangy and tasty sauce

they have a bunch of lunch specials including no HST.. not a large restaurant by any means but decent seating for groups of upto 4-5 max.

This is my favourite sushi place in the metrotown area.  The sushi is fresh and very tasty.  They have plenty of options on their expansive menu and a number of "party trays" that are great for when you are sharing with a few people.

For dining in, this sushi place has a much nicer seating arrangement then their neighbouring sushi restaurants.  While the others cram a bunch of tables with wooden chairs all together into a big open room, Yakko has nice booths with padded benches to give you a more comfortable and private dining experience.

For take out, orders are usually ready in 30 minutes which is average.  I have had them mess up my order once but it was when I asked for a substitution in a party tray.  Other than that they've always gotten it right.

here's another little hidden away sushi joint...whats the difference?  its run by real japanese people!

they dont dazzle up their sushi rolls...its just straight up goods.  made the way its supposed to be...clean and fresh tasting.

i no longer live in this area but when i have to visit my doctors office (which has been fairly often as of late) i like to come here afterwards before trekking home.  i have yet to walk in here to find it not busy.

the gommae, simple...real tahini dressing, thick and flavorful sprinkled with a touch of sesame seeds.
salmon sashimi, fresh wild sockeye pieces, great price for what you get.
mango roll, ripe mango pieces rolled within the seawood and rice make it almost like a dessert roll! who the heck doesnt like mangoes!?
bc roll, this i ordered only after i watched them prepare this for someone else.  they get the salmon skin and bbq it with a little torch right before they wrap it up.  the smell it gives off made my mouth drool and watching them make it made me want to watch it get done again!  never seen the roll get done like that before! super fresh!

everyone working there look so happy, all chit chatting in japanese behind the counter or by the register.  sushi bar is very open so you can see everything get prepared.

great quality for a great price.  they always have specials showcased on their little board right in front of the sushi bar.
$1.00 off all rolls during lunch hour! woohoo!

These guys have the best California Roll I've ever had. Also have really nice chicken teriyaki rolls and yam tempura rolls for those who like sushi, but aren't wild about fish.

My wife and I wanted a quick meal near our hotel and we found this place as we were coming back from the sky train.  Small place but the food was excellent.  I tried the mid priced sashimi platter and my wife had the Nabe udon.  I waned a little more so I also ordered some nigiri of yellowtail toro and saba.  All of the fish was excellent and without question fresh.  What surprised me though was the rice on my sushi.  I've never quite had perfect pillows of rice the just barely hold together like this.  The texture allowed me to make out individual rice grains and the balance of sweet and sour was a revelation.  Sushi done they way it should be.  They say that traditional sushi chefs spend years learning how to make rice.  I am sure this chef is a master of the craft.

We were there for the Groupon we bought online. I should say this restaurant is not ready for this kind of marketing promotion yet. The service was bad. No smile at all. especially when told them we are holding the Groupon. You can find them have no patient with you. Did feel the portion is smaller, and we checked with the waitress that we would like to order to the full amount we bought, and she said don't worry you have ordered 18 dollars, but after taxes it will be over 20 dollars. I said really. She said yes. However, when the Korean owner (the wife ...maybe ) came out when giving us a bill. She said we will need to charge you 20 dollars even you do not order 20 dollars. I said I just checked with your waitress before order, and she said it is ok. The owner's wife asked her waitress right away in front of me, and the waitress said "no". The waitress was lying, and the owner's wife turned back to us, and said She said "no" , and looked at us. more like we were the one lied. It was a very uncomfortable lunch. In addition, the owner's wife did not how to use the iphone system, and she told me you need to mark it as used in front of me when I pulled out the groupon from my iphone.  I felt that she was saying make sure you mark it as used, so you will not come again with using the groupon ticket. ....oh my god....what a worst lunch we had. She really ruined out lunch time.
