Getting turned on by a review from chowtimes and needing a destination to dine at after work, i hopped over to Y Y village for some taiwanese / shanghainese food.
Well the owner spoke perfect cantonese so it wasn't very taiwanesey so I edged towards more of a shanghainese sort of night.  Looking back, 7 dishes for 3 ppl was quite much.  could have gotten away with 2 less sides.

    Anyway, here we go:

    (prequel)
THIS PLACE TAKES FOREVER.  definitely not a restaurant if u're in a rush.  so come, be merry, then eat.
oh yeah... no washrooms?? hahaha but i won't detract my rating for that!

Xiao Long Bao - ok i still don't trust a cantonese speaking place with
XLB (ie. dim sum restaurants).  no juice at all.  fail.  end of story lol.

"Red Oil Fried Hand" - red hot dumpling.  the dumpling itself was barely average but the sauce was nice indeed.  maybe go for the wontons instead?  so far, dumplings are not this place's forte.

Pork Chop in noodle soup - i was ready for this place to match up to my legendary tastings when i was a kid but alas.... the pork chop was great.  but the noodle soup was a bit under par.  maybe the wrong type of noodle and soup.  the pork was juuuuuust a tad overdone.  my childhood version still reigns supreme... HOWEVER...
Beef noodle was superb!  this dish was straight, up, homemade cooking.  the beef itself is worth 5.85$ because u'll never have the time and patience to braise the beef to that level.  if u do, then skip what i said lol.

Deep Fried Pork intestine.   Hands down - pure AWESOME.  this dish is not for the weak.  it's a great dish lightly sprinkled with salt with onion inside. minced garlic on the side to kick it up a notch but it's so awesome u don't even need to.

slice beef in pancake - the pancake, the beef, the sauce was ALL GOOD.  the only problem i had with it was it being too oily and the beef a bit thin.  usually i don't complain abt oily kuz i'm mega skinny and eat a whole lotta oil but this was a bit much for a dish that took a while to come out.

pork belly with mustard vegetable on rice - omg this dish was quite orgasmic but the 3 of us were all full by then.  each had a bite of the pork and it was an easy pass.  took it to work for lunch tomorrow... gosh how i hate eating sandwiches for lunch.

the dumplings dropped what should've been a 4star rating.
try it out, it's hella cheap =)
