Review from Jason P.
Inside Yaohan Centre's food court, there are a handful of places to choose from. XO Beef Noodles was our pick and we ordered a few dishes to get a full feel of what they have to offer, a mix of Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine.
- Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup (Reg. - $4.95), which is your typical pho-type of noodle soup bowl. For the most part, it was only average. The broth did not have a deep rich flavor that you would come to expect from the bones, but something similar to a instant-powder like broth that was slightly oily. All the ingredients (beef slices, bean sprouts, cilantro) were thrown in, which should preferably be served on the side so that you can cook it to your liking. The beef slices were overcooked and tough, the bean sprouts did not have the refreshing crispness since it was boiled to softness, and the flavor of the cilantro was not as poppy as should be.
- Grilled BBQ Chicken over Rice ($5.99) - bone and boneless pieces of marinaded sweet/salty chicken served with cabbage over a generous bed of white rice. The chicken was tasty, though nothing to rave about.
- Pork Cutlet over Rice ($5.99) - definitely the better of the two, as the pork cutlet was tender and flavorful.
- BBQ Chicken Banh Mi ($3.75) - an 8" bahn mi served on subpar bread. The bread did not have the light and airy crispness that one would come to expect. It was similar, if not the same BBQ chicken complimented with pickled daikon and radish. No liver pate here. I wouldn't really constitute this as a bahn mi, but simply a BBQ chicken sandwich and nothing more. Affordable, and a decent serving of meat, but again, nothing worth remembering.
So, for the most part, XO Beef Noodles was somewhat of a miss. All the dishes were subpar and I think I'll consider moving on to the next kiosk on my next visit.Listed in: Vancouver

Review from Jando S.
As if it wasn't obvious from the name, noodles is where it's at here. This little stand features a variety of noodle dishes, with some standout ones that keep it unique amongst the rest of the food stalls in Yaohan's epic Asian food court.
Their signature dish, the XO Beef Chow Fun was something I hadn't had since I was in Hong Kong. For $5CAD, it remains a great deal and the portion size is just right. The noodles were soft, the XO flavor was a bit heavy, and the beef slices were slim with just enough chew not to be tough. Though it didn't quite deliver the foodgasm I had experienced in HK, it was still good enough to consider salvageable, and certainly worthy of multiple visits. For the most part, this is almost all I ever order anymore.
So I gave some of their other noodle dishes a shot and came away slightly disappointed. The seafood chow mein was super bland and their ongoing special duck noodle soup special was forgettable. But of course, many companions of mine have long preferred their other noodle dishes, but at least we can all agree the XO Beef Chow Fun is their best item there.
I have heard they're going to expand their menu to include handpulled noodles, which is something I definitely have to try when I'm back.Listed in: Noodle Soups (VAN)

Review from Larry L.
I come here for lunch now and then when I'm feeling adventurous for one if those dishes where you aren't really sure what it is, but it tastes good so you eat it?. I know it sounds crazy but that's just what this place is. Sure you can go the safe route and have the wuntun with veggies or a noodle soup dish, but I'll go for the 3 item combo, sub the rice for veggies and have a reasonably healthy meal. Yes they have mystery meat but it's not really a mystery..... It's beef or pork or chicken, just not sure where...., just done in a very Asian ethnic way. Most of the stuff here is good. Enough for me to come back and try it again and again and again. Come just before closing and they have all kinds of deals. Of course all the shops here have deals.
