My wife is impossible to shop for. I never get it right. In fact whenever her birthday or a holiday comes around , even though we've been together over twenty years, I get the reminder, "Remember if you buy me something, save the receipt." Xapno has never failed me. Every gift I have gotten here is a winner. The lady who works there (I'm assuming it's Jean) is also incredible at gift wrapping. To call it "gift wrapping" is not even close, she makes little works of art inwhich the reciever maybe hesitient to open the contents in fear of distroying the pleasent presentation. Jean also has a very nice deameanor about her, proffesional and nice. Support a great local business and go to Xapno.

I've purchased a few things here before and have been happy with my purchases but it's just not what it appears to be when you get in:(. But I keep going back to give it chances because I believe in supporting my neighborhood small business.
I live in the neighborhood and I come in often wanting some beautiful flowers, but I never walk away with any. I do love their window displays and books but once I walk in it's just cold, the woman who works/owns the place never seems to even bat and eye in my direction, I have asked questions but seem to get quick short answer when what I really want is help finding a nice arrangement and some customer service
The store is beautiful and it has wonderful gifts, papers and plants but the customer service is just so poor I walk out and head to church flowers instead, where I get eye contact and a hello. Maybe I should just grow thicker skin and suck it up. -

Best Wedding Bouquets EVER.
Jean at Xapno only does personal wedding flowers. Lucky for us, that's exactly what we wanted. I checked out a few different florists and the vibe I got from Jean -- creative, chill, responsive, a little bit quirky -- made it an easy choice. She had good suggestions and the flowers (bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres), while not exactly what I envisioned (hey, I'm not the florist:) were gorgeous! We got compliments on how beautiful and unique they were all night. -

Right across from my house so decided to visit one sunday afternoon. What an adorable shop. I bought this great leather side purse great find. The lady there was really nice-they have some cool flowers and unique plants. The candles are pricey but smell really good.
They also have some cute cards -

This is such a cute and well appointed little shop. They have the best quality candles I have bought anywhere in the city. They come in an assortment of scents and last a long time. They have a lot of plants and flowers. The fresh cut flowers usually last well over a week. I have bought very original jewelry here too. I almost didn't want to share my great jewelry find because I want to buy it all myself. :)
I have gotten a lot of compliments on the candles that make my home smell so heavenly and on the jewelry, too. The owner is very nice and helpful, too. -

I love this little shop. Well-curated items for reasonable prices; I want to cuddle all the little plants they have in here.
4 stars because they are almost always closed when I need a quick birthday gift for someone. -

This place is so wonderful. The plants are beautiful, unique, and reasonably priced. There is also a lovely little dried flowers collection - with flowers that can really give a home a great touch. There is also a nice card and candle collection. 5 stars!

This is the rebranded Zuzu's Petals, which has always been my favorite little corner florist.
The selection in very well edited and features a constant rotation of what I guess you could call "alternative" flowers, which make for absolutely gorgeous, unique and really quite comment-worthy arrangements. We love to pick up a handful of stems here every now and then to freshen up our place. So worth it, and a little goes a long way. Ditto for larger arrangements.. fantastic and beautifully unique.
The new name is a Harpo Marx reference. Why the change? It's the same owner (Jean).. she's just focusing more on expanding the retail store and doing more than flowers. So she's cutting back on delivery/events and expanding more into plants, gifts, etc. She's rearranged the store beautifully.
Between this place and Doe, this block of Haight is great for picking up gifts. For picking up trust fund skateboarder potheads (TM ignats), try the next block over, if you're in to that sort of thing. Bet that new psychedelic pink treatment on the rnm building is really harshing their mellow. -

I love this little spot. I consistently buy plants here that survive my wrath. Their prices for plants and plant pots are extremely reasonable. Once I purchased a plant here and I thought it was dying and like a paranoid mother, rushed it to Xapno emergency where the owner gently explained to me how I needed to trim the plant when the leaves wilted so that they would grow back. I took my baby home and now she is growing beautifully in my window.
There are also great local letterpressed cards here, original jewelry, wrapping paper and clothing. The owner is the nicest person ever. Really - she deals with my spazziness. -
Review from Miriam W.
Recently a houseguest of mine left a bouquet of flowers for me from Zuzu's. It was evident from the candy-cane striped string the owner uses to tie her bouquets with. The stargazer lillies I was gifted have just started opening up, providing a lovely frangrance to my flat.
Don't be afraid to ask for something special at this shop. The owner is happy to do it. She is very creative and once made me a small rose with wire at the end so I could tuck it in my hair.
Just the sort of flower shop everyone should have in their 'hood. I'm glad it's in mine.
UPDATE 2006:
Another bouquet (deep pink gerberas and orange-hued roses) from Zuzu's came my way recently. Beautiful and very unique. Having this place so close by means that when someone wants to buy me flowers, they go here. Lucky me!
Also, when my Mom was in town, she bought a small succulent for one of my friends. -

If you're trying to get a girl (or anyone who enjoys orchids...if you know what i mean) to hold hands (if you know what i mean) please read on. Also, in case you don't already buy flowers for your sugar-buns, please start. I should focus. Sorry.
Yes, this place has very unique and beautiful flowers. In fact, each and every one of the flowers in this shop looks like it was fawned over and nurtured to be the most beautiful flower on Earth. Hotttness. Even if you don't know anything about buying such things you just can't go wrong here. And if your sugar-buns can't appreciate the fragile and tender burst of love that you have so lovingly purchased to bestow upon him/her then dump that slut and keep the botanical treasure for yourself. -

Jean is lovely. She is a local owner and does a superb job providing unique gifts, plants and flowers. Almost monthly she highlights local artists in the back of her shop.
If you really want to give someone an interesting gift - this is the place to go. She is open most days but since she is the owner and only employee she sometimes has to spend time with her lovely daughter.
I like to just browse and often leave with a gorgeous purse or nature trinket. I can't wait for her organic cleaning line to come out. The bath accessories were a welcome mix up to her inventory. Light, fresh and gorgeous - just like Jean.
The lower haight is growing a number of excellent locally owned gift shops and exceptional international food. If you have not been lately - you must sneak down and enjoy the home town neighborhood feel.
Let's not forget Jean is from WI! -

A couple things I found surprising about the reviews of Xapno: (a) 26/29 thus far are 5 star reviews; and (b) there have been a healthy amount of dudes making reviews!
Bravo dudes. I guess also bravo to Xapno for bringing home the bacon in a serious way.
However, I give it 4 stars. It feels slightly blasphemous if one looks at the rest of the reviews but I feel that it has room for improvement.
Lower Haight does need more flower options (Verde SF and Guy's Flowers both rock but are not in the LH). Xapno does cover some of these needs...but I feel it needs to offer more of the every day flower options. Do not get me wrong they have some great stuff but more for special occasions I feel. So this could be improved.
You can buy plants here! I love plants. You can even get cacti too. I love cacti.
As the dude before me mentions...blank cards as well...which is nice when you want to be cheesy in your own words.
Nice to have Xapno around and a definite asset to the neighborhood.Listed in: My Neighborhood

I'm just wanted to put in my two cents about this lovely neighborhood estabilishment as well.
I've been in here multiple times for gifts on the run. Everytime I find something great (usually odd flowers you don't see elsewhere) and fantastic small press cards. The gal who works here is always playing good music and it is overall a really pleasant shopping experience (for a myself who is usually plagued with indecision).
Check it out! -

I could traipse the store for so long, even though its small and minimal in items to sell. The decor is beautiful, the flowers are gorgeous, and everything is so unique. There are some expensive things (ie. some clothes, jewelry, etc.) but her pots are reasonable and her flowers aren't terrible.
The owner also, is fantastic. She had this huge wall piece of shelving and my friend asked where she got it. She said she got it for free, and would give it to her if she wanted. She apparently was trying to make room for something new, but still, it was a fantastic piece and she could have sold it, but offered to give it to us for free.
Great little place. Makes my heart smile every time I'm in there. -

With a cleverly whimsical name inspired by the Jimmy Stewart classic 'It's a Wonderful Life,' this shop has a nice selection of reasonably priced flowers that the owner will arrange creatively enough so the bouquet resembles something a lot more expensive than it is.

What a sweet little shop. So many pretty, unique, special things. Books, candles, cards, flowers, plants...and my favorite: the "repurposed" jewelry. I fell in love with the bracelets and ear bobs fashioned out of old watch parts and vintage typewriter keys. As soon as I walked in, I knew that this store had to be somebody's baby...somebody who thoughtfully selects every piece that goes in there. Sure enough, after reading the other reviews, I've figured out that the friendly woman behind the counter must be the owner. This is where you go to shop for the girl who has everything...I walked out of there last night with "margin release" dangling from each ear.

It is so f--king hard to find a blank card; none of the main convenience stores have them. And sometimes all you want is a card with no message. And this place has them.

Review from Sheila M.
The BEST flower shop in SF. Gorgeous and unusual flowers and the owner Jean creates exactly what you want. I've asked for such diverse themes as "eclectic", "romantic" and "happy" arrangements and she never fails. She has made me gorgeous bouquets, posies and table centerpieces. This is not your ordinary flower shop. If you are even remotely creative (or wish you that you were!) you should start buying your flowers here as her floral creations never fail to elicit gasps from their recipients! Even the paper and unusual ribbons that she uses to tie the flowers up are gorgeous. Also - check out her gifts/cards/wrapping paper/odds and ends - you'll end up buying a random little knick-knack as well as your bouquet! I have given Jean's card to my family and told them to ONLY order flowers for me from her!

I'm so glad LH has a flower shop, an amazing one it is! It really brightens the street. They always have beautiful and great quality flowers. My husband got me a bouquet from them for Valentine's Day. The arrangement was so perfect and flawless, and you know what is even more amazing? It lasted for almost 2 months! I kid you not.

Owner Jean's passion for the unique and extraordinary is evident the moment you walk into Zuzu's Petals. For a quick hostess gift, exotic floral choices or simply to take a moment to enjoy the beauty, Zuzu's is my favorite stop on the walk back home.

no suprise it is a 5-star for others as well. this store has beautiful things that words can't describe, maybe only in poem.
what grabbed my eye one time, even though everything here usually does, was the owner's dried corsages -a very artful take on corsages. she has a very exotic and lovely sense of style.
this store is definitely one of a kind. -

Jean, the owner, is very sweet and will be very creative with your flowers if you want her to be -- or she'll follow your direction to create just what you had in mind. I entrusted her with my wedding flowers and they were gorgeous and came through vibrantly in the photographs.

One of friendliest and most hospitible florists in the city. It also features a great selection of flowers. The prices are a bit steep, but less is more when purchased from this place. The bouquets always to die for.

I have enjoyed buying plants for my house here for the past year. Jean is very knowledgeable about care, amount of lighting, and general care and I am proud to say my succulents and creepers are alive and well. Very well-priced too. On other occasions I've found some excellent blank cards here as well as chocolates. It's nice to have such a store in the neighborhood and I love to take my friends by here when they come to visit.

this place ROCKS bigtime. Jean, the owner, is so sweet and accomodating and has the most interesting mix of flowers, plants, gifts and stationary. one of my favorite flower shops ever. you can walk in there and get a nice bunch of ranunculus for 10 bucks and it beats the hell out of a grocery store assortment of the same price. she always has unusual and interesting plants (like the touch-me-not i got there which, when you stroke the leaves they close up...i like plants that do things!) and has a great talent for making up beautiful bouquets. love it love it love it!!!!!

i come here to buy myself little presents all the time! i love to browse the plants- xapno's carries beautiful cut flowers and potted plants, as well as pots to hold them in. there's jewelry for men & women, dried plants, starfish, bell jars, note cards, a small but well chosen collection of art books & cook books, & ribbon, as well as shoes & clothing.
please shop locally! this place has such a good vibe, i wish it had a patio with live monkeys serving tea to accompany the store because i'd never leave. -

i love zuzu's petals. i was lucky enough to find this place since it was my neighborhood flower shop, but now that i've moved i still find it worth it to visit jean & her flowers. she carries the best, most diverse selection of flowers and wraps them in a sweet way.
i find that i can get away with 1 or 2 interesting stems instead of the generic flower arrangements that you find at most florists'. -

I just meandered into this place today after leaving Mickey's Monkey. It's is such a beautiful store. I just wanted to stay inside to enjoy the tranquility. Besides being a florist, she has candles, clothes, jewelry. It's an awesome gift store. And definitely not overpriced. I walked out of there with a beautiful flower pot and a starter plant for 11.00. A gift, of course...
