My first gay bar experience in Toronto, and I took my (girl) friend with me.  Everybody was fine with her being there (I'm sensitive to that) and we both had a good time.

We went on a Monday night, and the TV monitors were all showing music videos, and the DJ did a pretty awesome job of keeping everybody entertained.  In that sense, this place (at least on that particular Monday night) reminds me of the same genre of bar as the Midnight Sun in San Francisco or a classic WEHO bar in LA.  Other reviews prior to mine suggest a more risque atmosphere (i.e. porn rather than music videos!) on other nights of the week.

Sexy, happy bartenders -- which ALWAYS add to the experience -- and strong drinks and lots and lots of room.  Also a covered patio for the tobacco enthusiasts.

The first time I came into Woody's I couldn't help but notice I was one of the only females there.  However there was lots of eye candy sauntering around so I really didn't mind.

Woody's is a great laid back type place.  I've been here both when its dead and when its packed and the service is always excellent.  The bartenders are so sweet!  I just can't help but smile when a muscular hottie bartender greets me with a 'Hey baby'.

Price wise I'd said they are fairly comporable with any other bar in the area, I never seem to be spending an exorbiant amount of cash there and always leave hammered, however I am a very cheap drunk.

The one big drawback though is that the bathrooms are disgusting.  There are always puddles of water everywhere with paper towels strewn all over the counters and the soap dispensers hardly ever work, plus what I assume to be pubic hair all over the toilets.  I've also had the honor of walking in on a few BJ's going on in there, to which I only have this to say---I do understand that you are caught up in a moment of passion, however if you decide to do this in a stall in the women's bathroom, please take a moment to lock the stall door, otherwise you may find yourself being interrupted by a drunk chick looking for a toilet.  Thank you.

This place seemed great at first. I quickly spent 300$ at the bar, giving the bartender in a crop top nothing but the utmost respect. However, as a woman, my only option was to pee in the coke infested, pube covered toilets in the mens room while the drag queens were taking shits and snorting lines off their own cocks in the ladies room.

After all the money spent with my girlfriends who were just having fun dancing, we were escorted out for simply trying to get from one end to the other by crossing something they call a "stage" meaning 4 feet of elevated wood. No pun intended.

Over all, whether your gay straight or confused dont go to woodys for fun. You go to a bar for the good times not a dick up your ass. You know, the rainbow seems to have a lot of different shades all of a sudden.

For the quintessential fruit fly who likes to hit up a bar in the gayborhood every once in a while, this is the place.  It pretty much fulfills all your gay needs, and is a great starting place if you want to continue bar hoping.  If you are in the mood to watch naked men wrestle on a tv screen, you can do it here too (yippee).

I haven't been here for years but Woody's is that classic gay bar - the first one you think of in the 'hood.  They also used to host (not sure if they still do) the Miss Bailey's Competition - which is by far - the best drag show I have ever been to.  Bailey's used to (not sure if they still do) pick out their spokes model in this competition, and these queens were so hot you'd never know they were men.  It's also PG rated enough that I could take my mom here and she really enjoyed it.

Woody's is also good, in my opinion, for that first time visitor who is nervous about entering the scene.  All in all, a pretty solid place.  Oh, and they have a decent brunch as well.

Woody's is the go-to bar on church street; the bartenders are friendly (and generally good looking), the bar is crowded on the weekend and the music is never overpowering so it's a place you can get to know people or hang out with friends. The reason it's just okay is because of the lack of creativity. The weekly events NEVER change so the place can quickly become stale and complacent. Every week they have the same old 'Best Chest' and 'Best Ass' contest. Before the contests, drag queens are allowed 15 minutes to perform a few lip sync routine (Rihanna and Britney are weekly staples) and then becomes the uncomfortable poaching of the audience to find willing (drunk) guys to show their asses/chests. I'd like to see something different. Trying something new!

Woody's is the Cheers of Church St. The bartenders are hot and friendly and they often do the kind of other jobs where you end up exclaiming, "you work here too?" when you walk in. Go go dancers and writers and bartenders at clubs and stuff like that.

It's open every day all day, and gets a bit of an after work rush in the pub sense. They have a whole bunch of weekday events that pack up like "Best Chest Contest", drag shows and other events. It's predominantly a male but very inclusive.

It's attached to Sailor, a smaller more martini-bar feeling joint that shares a wall with Woody's but doesn't necessarily keep the same hours.

The one thing I will wan you about with Woody's is that there are like 50 TVs, one in every corner. They are all set to dude on dude porn all the time. Personally, I think it's funny, adds a flair to an otherwise traditional bar setting, but occasionally, I notice that my friends get a little squirmy during the day, when it's not so full, having an after work drink, surrounded TVs blaring pounding man flesh.

It's a definite MUST go if you're on Church though. It's the backbone of the gayborhood.

Been here a few times and I can't say I love it.
In the gay village it is definitely a gay- pickup bar.  Sound like it would be obvious?  Not necessarily.  There are a few queer bars in the village that attract women as well as men and are more geared towards dancing, taking in the [drag] shows, or socializing with a mixed crowd.  But Woody's is definitely a gay man's cruising spot.
Not that they won't welcome you if you aren't gay and/or cruising.  But it's just that you won't really have as much fun if that isn't your goal and you are better off at other places in the village.

So I think I am the first person to tell you that Woody's is the site of many of the scenes filmed for Queer as Folk and unlike lots of other things promoted in that show-all night dancing on a Tuesday night, the dependability of your best friends, tricks that you never see again-the good times of Woody's are the most true to form.

I can't remember if I found the crowd that personable and friendly, this is a gay bar after all but it is one I found a good place to watch the Academy Awards in the off year I was there.

Woody's seems to serve as an anchor for the gayborhood street which runs deep with gay shops and gay pride.  In the years QAF filmed there, you could see the cast there and easily get yourself an "extra" casting.

Go see and be seen here!

Who doesn't go to Woody's when you are on Church Street?  This place is usually a must when you are in the 'hood.

The space is very large, when you walk in, there is a bar right as you enter and then another bar off to your right as you enter.  The top bar is sorta okay, people are much more orderly per se up here.

The lower bar is more active.  Lots and lots of guys to look at, and to look at you.  So be careful not to trip going from the top bar to the lower bar, all eyes will be on you.

There is a stage where there are shows, contests etc. so if you are into that, stay closer to the lowere bar to get a spot up at front.  The place is rather big, so I recommend not staying in the same spot for long, or you might miss something 'hot' around the corner.

Around the corner from the lower bar is a pool table area and another bar, and stairs down to the bathrooms.

This is not a place to go if you want to dance.  It's more of a meet friends, and check out the scenery type of place.

The bartenders are pretty good, but things can get busy and so they might be as attentive as you would like.

All in all, a decent place to start off the night!

An iconic venue on Church St. in Toronto, Canada. Their icon is a Rhino and examples of it are throughout. Attached bar is Sailor which has a nautical theme. The place was busy when we got there with a wide demographic. They are  known for its' drag shows and events, after work crowd and the place to start your evening. Some shows are worth sticking around for the rest of the night. The place is popular for tourists and it's where they filmed Queer as Folk.

Same feeling....but after being at Woody's almost every time I go to the Village....hot bartenders....very hot bartenders. Not necessarily shirtless, but just genuinely attractive and all but one of them are friendly!
