Won a contest for free food and money to gamble.

Kept the money. The buffet and service was very good. The races comparable to hong kong. Lots of passionate race fans. The crowd was very entertaining.

Not up to Vegas or the Bahamas but entertaining!

I had a really good time out here this past summer when I headed up north to canada.  My cousins, my mom, step dad and I decided to make a day of it and take a trip out to the racetrack on a sunday.  It was a really great idea, we had a great summer day. Meanwhile, no one came out a really big winner in the six or so races we played all together. I believe there were 10 races all together that day. I just won a few bucks here and there on $2 win bets or $1 place and $2 win combined efforts and it was just enough money winning back from the race to help me buy more beer for the day.  There were some greats on tap LE Bat, Molson and others.  Prices were decent like 4.85 in canadian money ( not far off from USD actually a few cents difference).  The large drink was maybe 6.25 for 24 oz so yeah I kept myself hydrated in between race watching.  I think one difference between here in NY ( Belmont or Aqueduct) and this place was there were alot of visible prostitutes there too at the race track. Honestly I mean you can just tell when you see the guys that they were with and how they were dressed. It was like fuck, you know this guy looking like this with two blazin hot chicks on his arm just has straight deep pockets, maybe they were still looking around the room for their next mark after they entertained this guy.  I guess sure there were a few high rollers in the crowd and I was not even in the V.I.P.
-overall a great day I must say. The most I won on any single race was about 10 Canadian dollars.  Like I said, exciting raciing that included beers with the family. It was a moment I will remember.  Food was decent out there too, got like Pepperoni pizza a giant slice, like really big for 2.50 but yeah way bigger than our slices over here.  Got some popcorn too that was worth it being a giant portion as well for 3.50.

Quick tip : They do have slot machines here as well to play.  I walked through but didn't do any time with the one arm bandit machine.
The money system there did confuse me at first, they are way more coin based.  I had litterally every piece of every differet type of coin after all these beer and food runs.  They have 1 dollar coins and also 2 dollar coins so yeah an outsider like me had to check it first before paying, or I would just give like a 5 dollar canadian bill and then a US 25 cent quarter and say what ever it is the same.  I definitely spent over 20 on drinks alone and not even 20 placed together on all the six races, haha.
-Check this place out Woodbine if you are in the area in Canadia ( as some people like to say)

My love affair with Woodbine and horse racing started over two decades ago when my grandparents kicked off an annual tradition, inviting our family to Mother's Day at the track. We would head upstairs to Favorites Dining Room, a six-tiered full-service restaurant with a spectacular view overlooking the races.

As the horses entered the paddock area we would examine them with earnest from table top flat screens as we gorged on prime rib and made-to-order omelettes, washed down with the champagne of ginger ales. Toonies in hand, we would proudly approach the betting counter to place our wagers. We cheered on our favorites and willed them with all our might to win, place or show.

As every race day wore on and eventually came to a close, we would depart, bellies full, wallets thickened or thinned depending on our luck and always eager to return the following year.

If you're looking for a thrilling adventure without the risk of death as in extreme sports... then the Sport of Kings would fit the bill!  Your heart will be racing as the horses come across the finish line!

Not only is it fun to watch the race and the beautiful horses, but you can also enjoy a refreshing beverage on the grandstands... with no admission charge!  For only $1 or $2 you can bet on each race.  While some people can get carried away gambling... this can be completely reasonably priced entertainment!

If you're reading this... you probably need to know the basics of betting.  The payout odds are posted beside the horses.  You can also purchase a magazine with statistics.  Serious gamblers review stats of   Essentially, you can choose a horse to either win, meaning your horse must come first, or you can bet on your horse to place, which means the horse must come in either first or second for you to win your bet, or you can bet your horse to show, which means that your horse may come in either first, second or third for you to win your bet.  Though, the payout reduces as your risk reduces.

A fun bet is either an exacta, trifecta or superfecta... essentially, you bet on the exact positions that the horses will place; for either two, three or four horses respectively.   A $2 superfecta bet can payout thousands!

There is a casino on site, though there are no table games.  There is also a really great Thai/Vietnamese restaurant within the casino called "Willows" that I highly recommend!

I got invited out to a networking event for a "Night at the Races" at Woodbine.  The event took place on the trackside tents just next to the main building.  We will right there about 100 ft away from the horses.  I was impressed.

The food was great, buffet style with loads of variety.  Salads, grilled and roasted veggies, roast chicken and wonderful prime rib!  I had to limit myself to one plate to save room for dessert.

The highlight of the night was getting a mini crash course with one of the Woodbine horse betting experts.  He was super helpful and overlooked our picks.  Sadly, I did not win any of my bets.  Lesson learned - do not gamble unless you are willing to lose it.

Overall, it is a fun night out if you are looking to do something different.

This place was okay the first few times but afterwards it got a bit stale.

Horseracing was fun. Minimum bet is $2. It's weird because if you pick the favourites, you'll barely win anything (or nothing at all). But if you pick the non-favourites, well, they don't often win. So winning substantial amounts wasn't easy for me.

A tip to penny-pinchers: if you want detailed information/stats about the horses/races, they charge you a few bucks for a booklet. But the exact same information is available on their website for free. So if you have internet on your phone you can look that up or you can even copy down key info beforehand at home and bring it with you on a piece of paper.

There are about 11 races on race nights. Usually 15 mins. between each one. You'll likely hear off-colour comments during and after the races. People yelling at a horse to run faster, about to cry 'cause they lost a grand, etc. Just makes it more interesting.

The slots were okay. They got boring after a while. But to each their own. Minimum slot bet is two cents, but those machines are almost always taken!

Very few young people in both the slots area and the horseracing area. The entire complex is quite large. I probably won't be back anytime soon. Not because there's anything wrong with the place; just because it doesn't tickle my fancy after the 3rd visit.

My only experience with horse racing in North America has been in the sometimes seedier surroundings of an off-track betting agents.  The closest you get to a horse in these places is the custodian's push-broom.  When my buddy suggested that a bunch of us get together and spend a day at the track, I figured where's the harm?  It's like OTB but being right there for it.  It'll be fine.

When you first get there, you're hit by the sheer size of the venue.  The track is expertly manicured for the day's races, the paddock is full of the day's runners, and the betting area is clean, modern, and definitely seductive.  Like most tracks, TVs provide live feeds from other tracks allowing you to bet on multiple courses if you wish.

The food available is pretty much cafeteria-style with pizza and burgers available, but if you wait a while, the roast beef on a Kaiser roll (with as much horseradish as you can take) is fantastic.  Also keep in mind where you are and make sure you don't enjoy the draft beer that they have too, too much.  We watched as one party very politely but firmly got escorted off the premises for having enjoyed the day a bit too much.  They weren't that out of hand, but Security stipulates that you cannot gamble if you're not in basic control of your faculties.

    Okay, it was us.

Haven't been to a race here yet, but they do have a large variety of slots.  Their $.02 machines are always crowded so you may need to stake them out.  My partner frequently wins here; I don't.  Surrounding area is a bit iffy, but the parking lot has frequent security patrols and we don't feel unsafe here at all.

If you are looking for a quick slot machine or trotting fix without traveling very far, this is the place to go.

    I don't gamble.

Actually, come to think of it, the last time I dropped coin on this place was over 10 years ago, and it amounted to all of a dollar. (I won $20, and didn't need to re-gamble that money again!)

But it's not the gambling. There's something intoxicating about watching the ponies run around a track: the sounds, the anticipation of the crowd, the shredded tickets lying on the ground...

It's a sociological study in itself and worth the trip on a good race day, especially if you love people watching and seeing everyone's dreams die with every dollar dropped and ticket shred.

At least it's not me. Phew.

I have never been much for the sport of Kings I think that horse racing isn't very interesting and I don't know enough about it (nor do I want to) to bet on it.  So for a long time Woodbine Racetrack was not of much interest to me. Then sometime in the recent past they introduced slot machines.  Now I realize the terrible odds that come with slot machines and the impression that they are pretty much only for old ladies, but I like them and when I feel the urge (honestly it's not that often, but it does happen) Woodbine is a great place to go.  The slots floor at Woodbine is massive and I've never had any trouble finding a machine.  If you are a hardcore gambler then this isn't the place for you because well, other than me the median age of the people here is somewhere around 60  and that's not a very wild or big spending crowd.  But if you're like me and every so often have a bit of money burning a hole in your pocket then this is a pretty good place to blow it.
