I am not sure why I haven't been in here before. I've been on the look for a few different things and have spent a lot of time at shops around the city but despite Womyn's Ware being in my neighbourhood and everything I hadn't stopped in.
So yesterday I strolled over and immediately was greeted by a really lively and friendly sales associate. Before I even had a chance to ask for what I was on the hunt for we started talking about a hair clip I had. It was so lovely to just be casual as some places are either eyeing you because you're going to lift something or a bit type-a.
They have a really great selection of sex toys, books, bondage gear etc and a lot of it is local which is a nice change. They have some lovely leather harnesses which are made on the Island and some glass products from around which I thought was very cool.
Their prices seem really reasonable and they certainly had a great selection for anything you could possibly need.
The girls working were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and I will absolutely be going back. -

The feminist bookstore in Portlandia -- that's always been my assumption of what Womyn's Ware is. Just like a bar that replaces 'cks' with 'x', any female-oriented shop that spells "woman" with a 'y' is enough to make my hyper-critical self judge the hell out of the place before even entering. It's got to be a room full of angry man-hating lesbians, right? I mean, why else would they put so much emphasis on the letter Y?
WRONG. So wrong.
This particular Y-loving spot is not only clean, but full of friendly, super helpful and respectful women. The staff are really what sets it apart -- knowledgeable, patient, and *useful* these folks have actual first-hand experience with most of the products they carry. So, while they may have a "Y chromosome only" vibe going on, I assure you, this is a space where men, women, and otherwise are most welcome.
Also, huge bonus: SO many books and classes. Feeling a little unsure about your bondage technique? Confused about bottoming out? Hell, you going through menopause but still want to get down? They've got a book for that. And probably a toy or two, too.Listed in: Commercial Drive

Womyn's Ware is the best sex toy shop in the city & possibly in the country. Unlike most other sex shops, it's bright, open & friendly. The focus is on women's sexual health, with books, vibrators, dildos, lubricants, bondage gear, S&M toys, jewellery, menstrual products, & contraceptive/STD protection. That said, men are welcome in the store. The staff are approachable & know their stuff. Their merchandise is all good-quality, safe, healthy & fun. There's always at least one of everything out of its package to look at & handle before you buy.
Many people have said it's expensive, but when it comes to a sex toy, do you really want to risk injury or infection with the cheap crap from the other stores? You get what you pay for! Womyn's Ware does carry some very high-end gear, but they also have vibrators starting at about $20, for the budget-conscious out there.
Their website has detailed & informative descriptions of all their products. If you're too shy to get down to asking the nitty-gritty questions you have about using their products, check out the sections 'Womyn Aware Advice' & 'Buyer be Womyns Ware'. You'll learn something, I guarantee it. -

Given that awkwardness and sleaziness are the two biggest detractors to people seeking better orgasms, this sex toy store is neither, making the customer feel as though "everybody does it" from the moment they walk in.
Gone are the blow up sheep, edible underwear, and other campy novelty products that would probably just give you a rash in the end anyway. Womyn's Ware is an open comfortable space, offering advice and encouragement on which allergy resistant strap-on is right for you. There are dildos of every color of the rainbow, and in case the shape of a penis isn't your thing, some resemble dolphins, rams, and lava lamps.
From vibrators to bondage gear, Womyn's Ware is the wholesome place to buy your pina colada flavored water based lubricant and anything else you need to get off guilt-free. -

First of all, I'm not a wom(a/y)n, though this place makes me want to be one because I can't help but wonder how great it'd be if I had all the erogenous zones and bundles of nerves that the shiny, happy toys this place has are meant to stimulate.
The most obvious thing about this place is that it is really, really friendly despite displaying toys like cuffs and rather intimidating strap-ons prominently. It's amazing how you don't feel like there is a half-dozen large plastic penises pointing at you while you're standing there even through they are sitting there, non-threateningly saying "buy me, I'll make you happy!".
Conversely, if you want super-hardcore BDSM stuff or cheap hardcore sleazy porno, this is not the place to go.
The staff is also really friendly! They're nice people.
And, one last thing: I really like the layout of the store. They scatter their books among all the toys and so it breaks up the monotony of dildo dildo dildo dildo dildo---it's really more like dildo dildo hey look at me I'm a book about relationships dildo dildo look I'm a book about how to choose the right girth dildo for maximal pleasure dildo.
I've never seen a clearly male patron there (I suppose I don't personally count as clearly male myself), but what little guy instinct I have tells me that this is a good place to take a lady to if you want to make her life better. -

Awesome, awesome and awesome! Very friendly staff who really know their stuff (even if they're lying, they're really good at lying).
The prices of their products are in my opinion fairly expensive for those who are experimenting with these toys for the first time. They have a wide variety of condoms - (10 for $10) which is quite cool as you get to choose what you like. Most of the condoms however seem to fit smaller? The Kimono micro thins are supposed to feel like nothing. They also have coloured condoms and glow in the dark ones - but better than those that you buy at Superstore or Wal-Mart.
Most of the vibrators ranged from $70-100+. But if you know what you like, I think it's a good investment. -

Very helpful staff and lovely displays. This is no skeevy sex shop, this is like a high end sex boutique equipped to meet all your kinky needs.
The staff is very informative and not too pushy, and boy do they know what they are talking about. If you're not in the mood for toys and such they actually have a great selection of books as well. There's pretty much something for everyone here! -

For the best dill, vibe or lube - look no further. No need to shop for a novely yeast infection on Granville Street. Womyn's Ware combines an excellent product selection with friendly, knowledgeable staff, making this a destination of choice for all your personal gifts...
Need wrist cuffs but can't bear to ring them through at the till? Womyn's Ware also do a great on-line business for their shy clientele. Shop on-line and you'll have your partner tied up in no time!Listed in: Does Your Mother Know? Best…

Womyn's Ware is not half as bad as you think. I'm a guy and, frankly, anything with Womyn with a 'y' is a bit off putting. You tend to assume you'll be treated badly or yelled at if you have a penis and I'd long assume this place was kind of a lesbian store more than just a sex positive retailer.
That said, the few times I've been in they've been awesome. Not that the other places on Davie and the like are particularly sleazy or mean but the atmosphere at Womyn's Ware is the best. They have the kindest, most knowledgeable staff I've ever dealt with and they have actual opinions and experience with most of their devices, which is more than you can say for a lot of places.
They also offer a lot of classes and info for various other sex positive places and ideas. Womyn's ware definitely gets my fifth star for managing to be a place that comes from a strong ideological core, while being relaxed and open enough to let anyone in, regardless of who they are and what they think. -

This is a woman's "toy" store. Fun (and useful) merchandise for gifts or purpose. The staff is helpful and educated.
After visiting "Good Vibrations" in San Francisco, and LoveCraft in Toronto, I can tell women all over that they need to know that this kind of shop will not jump up and bite you or anything. If nothing else, it will provide you with a giggle or curiosity. -

The best place in town for a girl to shop for her toys. No, make that the only place. The mainly female staff are matter-of-fact, friendly and knowledgeable. They have a variety of interesting books, lubes (love that they offer so many travel sizes for those sexy hotel getaways!) plus more dildoes and vibrators than I ever imagined existed. Whatever your preference in color, size, shape, texture, material or flexibility, they've got the one for you. And while not cheap - this isn't your run of the mill seedy sex shop - the products are high quality and long-lasting.

Rather than a dodgy neon-lit, Davie and Granville Street freaky-spot, this sex-toy store is for empowering females all over the Lower Mainland. It's been voted as Best of Vancouver for years now, best of sex-toys and such store that is. You can find: books, accessories, gifts, toys, and other things that women can use to enjoy their bodies, play with their partners' body or just learn to be comfortable with theirs. Dildos, lubricants and things like a thigh harness and a swingers' pad...
