Classic. It was either between here or Peter Luger's on our visit to the city. No complaints here.
The steak and sides are very filling. They serve the steak to you and cut it at your table. Didn't leave any room for desserts. Dark, eerie, and classic steakhouse lighting added to the mood. If New York didn't have so many delicious places to eat, then I'd go back here sooner. -

I went to wolfgang with my husband on my birthday and although I am not a huge fan of steaks, I really enjoyed my meal!! I ordered crab cake and bacon for appetizer, dinner for two for my main meal, and ordered two desserts which was key lime pie and pecan pie with LOTSSS of whip cream (my favorite!!). I also lovee the fact that the waiters at the restaurant gave us great service (esp when he gave me tips for fixing my iphone lol). OH! and even though we went on a sunday, the restaurant was still busy with lots of hungry people waiting for the juicy steak!
I would love to go again for my next birthday :) -

I love this place.... I just came back.
We started with the crab cake... I used to always be annoyed when waiters suggest ordering seafood at a steakhouse because you go there for steak so why fill you up with seafood where there is so much meat coming. Regardless, the crab cakes are very very good and I recommend having one to share. We had 1 for 3 and we felt it was perfect... you get 3 full bites each so you feel satisfied but you do not sacrifice too much meat space... yes, managing stomach real estate is key when going to a WG.
We had the rib eye steak and it is delicious. We were 3 guys and ordered 2 of them... we finished the first one but barely touched the second one. So my advice, order at least for 1 less than the number of guest at your party.
The rib eye was just like you dream about it... tender, juicy, tasty... just delicious but a lot. The sides were good too... sauteed spinach (which was easily a 1 pound plate) were ok... not the best thing on the menu. The german potatoes were great and the mushroom were great too.
No room for desert...
Wine wise, we we had a very good bottle of Napa Cabernet Sauvigon, that I would highly recommend. Medium bodied, perfect for steak: Sequoia Grove, 2006. -

this place made me do a happy meat dance.
started off with the off the menu seafood platter which is deceptively a lot of food. jumbo shrimp, crab salad (not mayonaisssey yay!), and lobster. great way to kick off the meal.
porterhouse for 8. yes please.
perfectly cooked. juicy. nice subtle seasoning.
great sides. not too creamy spinach. thin and lightly breaded onion rings. roasted mashed potatoes.
great desserts too (although i can't remember what i ate at the moment) -

My buddy and I had an 8 pm reservation last Thursday. We show up at exactly 8 pm and the lobby/bar is completely packed. I make my way to the front desk. Girl behind the counter tells me it will be a few minutes. No problem. My buddy and I hang back and chit chat. At 8:10, I go back up and check on the status. Same story: "It'll be a few more minutes". Fine. We're hungry but we can see the place is still packed and there's little the staff can do. Another 20 minutes go by. I check up front again. "A few more minutes...". Now I'm getting upset. Not only have I waited a half hour but I feel like I'm being lied to. All in all, we were not seated until 9:05, more than an hour after our reservation. No apologies, no free appetizers, nothing. Really, really poor service, guys. One bright spot on an otherwise disappointing night: the food was fabulous.
A few notes to management:
1. If the wait is going to be more than a few minutes, dont tell your customers it'll be a "few minutes". I'd rather get the truth and an apology than a lie.
2. I understand that sometimes tables dont turn over as quickly as you expect and reservations are pushed back. If that's the case, do the following: communicate the situation, apologize to the customer, and offer them something FREE to make up for the wait. The cost of an appetizer is nothing compared to the good will you establish with the customer. Otherwise we're left feeling angry and it is unlikely we'll ever return. -

1 hour and 15 minute wait with a reservation. Our steak for two was outstanding. German potatoes were over cooked. The place has awesome ambience, however it was extremely loud.

Came here with some buds. Not my first choice but they chose it so why not?
we got a steak for two which was pretty tasted although i think a hair over mid rare. the sauteed mushrooms were awesome and the oysters were delicious although I wasn't too impressed with the shuck on two of them. -
Review from Eva G.
Personally, this steakhouse topped Williamsburg's Peter Luger. The kind of food you get here is of the same style; the thick-cut bacon (1 strip per order) is aromatic and not as greasy, the creamed spinach is not as heavy on the cream, the German potatoes were great, and the porterhouse for 2 was enough for 4 people when we ordered all the other sides (ordered medium rare, it came out beautifully tender). The hot fudge sundae was just as satisfying as Luger's.
I had to take a star away because of the incessant up-selling that the waitstaff forced onto us. "Do you want flat or sparkling?" We want tap. "Are you sure [Crinkly face]?" Yes. We want 3 slices of bacon... "How about 4?" No. "Have you decided on drinks?" We'll stick with the water.
I expect to get roughed up by service at a NYC steakhouse, and I understand there was only a 10% occupancy of tables at 2pm on the Monday that was President's day, but there is no reason to treat us like the poor people we really are. -

Awesome! The steak is amazing. I like my steak rare. Outside is broiled to a crisp, and the inside is still very juicy and very flavorful. Love the onion rings and creamed spinach as sides. Roasted potatoes are OK.
For starters, the Canadian bacon makes me drool when I think about it. Sliced tomatoes and onions are not bad and shrimp or lobster cocktails taste very fresh and delicious.
I would have given this place 5 stars, but before every visit I have made reservations, been on time and STILL had to wait at-least 45 minutes. -

If I could marry a restaurant. It'd be you. Wolfie.
Amazing! Professional staff. Service is on point. The steak... amazing. No other words to describe it.
Some friends and I were in NYC over the weekend and I made it a point to visit this steakhouse. Everyone was absolutely happy and satisfied with all the food from the bread, to the shrimp salad with fresh mozerella and onions that was a special order to our steak platter, spinach, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. Let's not forget about the libations.
You remain close to my heart, Wolfgang's.Listed in: places i LOVE

Simply AMAZING steaks served on sizzling hot plates where you can continue to cook the steak on the side of the dish. So order a medium rare porterhouse and enjoy the juicy delicious bites. I suggest the bacon strips, tomato & onion salad, a seafood platter for a group to start (oysters a must) and save room for dessert. They are from start to finish the best of best. I highly recommend Wolfgang's for anyone that loves steaks.

West Hollywood, CA
A New York tradition, this steakhouse set in the basement of a prewar building with tiled vaulted ceilings puts you in the mood for big steaks and red wine.
Steak prices are reasonable for an establishment of this quality. You don't feel like any of the prices are outrages, not inexpensive but fair.
We were their and could not find a women in the establishment we thought we found 1 but nope it was the hostess. Filled with bankers, and the investment fund babies this is a must see in the city.
A must have is the BACON appetizer. Yes BACON. It is simply 3 thick slabs of bacon grilled to perfection. No sauce, no garnish, just bacon in all its glory. Trust me, you'll love it.
The only reason this steakhouse did not get 5 stars is due to the classless up selling of wine at the table. Waiters will place 3 bottles of wine, that were sitting on windowsill, on the table trying to convince you they are on sale. These bottles ranged in price from 150 to 350 dollars. Not paired with anything, not recommended by the chief, not even unique, just a cheap way to up sell the table. I have been to many an expensive 5 star meal and this was the most gauchely thing I have experienced at a restaurant.
Stop this immediately. -

The most amazing steak we have ever had.
My husband and I go there once or twice a month. We order the porter house steak for two and feast on it.
Although it might be a little expensive the quality of meat is amazing. I haven't been able to enjoy a steak anywhere else after dinning at Wolfgang's, especially the one on Park Ave.
Order the cream spinach, bacon and porter house for 2. -

Came here for Valentine's Day and every couple received a Wolfgang teddy bear. Oh how sweet!
The steak was cooked really well but to be honest, the atmosphere wasn't my cup of tea. I am not sure why. Could be where we were sitting? It felt a bit cramped.
I'd like to give it another shot one day to try it all again. I mean I love Park Avenue and all..I guess I'd have to go again to be more aware of the steak quality rather than the ambiance next time around. -
Review from Len W.
Wolfgang worked at the famous Peter Luger's steakhouse for over 2 decades, saved his money and achieved his goal of starting his own steakhouse.
Wolfgang was out visiting with the guests tonight. He's a gracious host, and proud that he as 3 places in the Big Apple, and places in Beverly Hills and Hawaii.
This place is pricey, but really outstanding. By 7pm, the place was full on a Monday night. My host say they often have a line out the door, down the sidewalk 5 nights a week.
This is located on Park Avenue at 33rd Street, about a block away from the Empire State Building. The restaurant is located in the former private railway station of Cornelius Vanderbilt. You can see the vaulted, domed tile ceiling.
I ordered the rib-eye steak. it came out quickly, bone in, and perfectly cooked to a pink medium rare. I did not add any sauced, and it was perfectly seasoned. Their was a nice broiled crust - just right. The serving was huge, and I took 1/2 of the steak home.
Our table shared the asparagus, the mushrooms and the German potatoes. They were average, and the potatoes were a little singed, but not bad.
Service was efficient and polite and attentive. The Kettel One martini was perfect, with the slightest icy slush when served.
I would go again, if I could afford it. The rib-eye was $44. This is quite an experience!
There's a parking garage next door on 33rd. It is the typical NYC parking - $45 for 2 hours. -

New York, NY
Somewhere between the dirty martini and oysters on the half shell, three quarters of a bottle of malbec, the foot and a half long slabs of thick cut bacon, and the sizzling platter of buttery, charred porterhouse for two, I lost my ability to think objectively about this steakhouse.
We were smart and took early reservations (6:30) which meant we were seated immediately. The disgruntled crowd by the door as we made our exit did not seem to be faring quite so well. I admired everything from the arched tiled ceilings (historic landmarks they say) to the friendly waiter who insisted he never forgot a face even after three years (we humored him even though in the back of our minds we guessed it was another case of 'all-asians-look-alike'). And what a quirky, nice old man that stopped by our table to wish us well and thank us for coming to dine... what's that you say, Google? That spacey old man is the spitting image of Wolfgang Zweiner himself? Say what?? I am mildly embarrassed that we asked him if he was the owner... (it wasn't me!)
I will stop swooning for a moment to give one tip to the meat lover's who will come after me. When a delicious, perfectly cooked steak is presented to you on a sizzling platter, do not waste time attempting to compose photos of said steak. Do not slowly savor every bite of that first melt in your mouth slice. Instead, the first thing you MUST do is move your whole steak off the sizzling platter and onto your cold plate. Because, as any self-respecting steak lover will tell you, a cold, perfectly cooked steak is infinitely better than a warm, overcooked steak, which I am sad to say is what the final slices were after sitting on that platter for probably half an hour. No one to blame but ourselves. We were ready to be wheelbarrowed out the door about halfway through, but the fact that we still finished Every. Last. Bite. goes to show that it was a thing of beauty. Not to be missed. Luger's has some pretty stiff competition in the city.Listed in: Romancing the Tastebuds, Carnivoro Paradiso

wolfgang let me down in las vegas and let me down again in new york.
everything other than the ice cream sundae sucked.
3 of us ladies got a porterhouse for 2 to share, and let me tell you, after our meal we still had enough sub-par steak to feed a whole country. the steak wasn't juicy and had a rubbery texture.
we also ordered the mash potato, sauteed mushroom and creamed spinach to share. potato was average, sauteed mushrooms were good, and creamed spinach was just not creamy enough. i can definitely taste the raw chlorophyll.
the ice cream sundae made up for our meal though. house special whip cream with hot fudge and vanilla, i guess a good ice cream sundae can always make up for the losses.
the restaurant is rich in testosterone. the male:female ratio is about 10:1, and most of the women there were dining on business expense.
even with a reservation we waited for 40 minutes before we got seated. what's the point of making a reservation again? oh wait, there won't be an "again".Listed in: tour de binge eating in nyc

Review from Justin S.
Oh, how lovely... Wolfgang's, a venerable New York institution among steakhouses, I really did enjoy your company.
My stepmother suggested we try this place for our birthday dinner (my twin sister and I were so looking forward to it!). Given reviews of this fabulous location in the old Roosevelt Hotel, replete with Guastavino tile ceiling, "old New York" decor and cuisine "to die for," it was set to be the experience of a lifetime, or at least a birthday-time.
We started with wine and/or cocktails at the bar which was fine but note that staffing on a Sunday afternoon is sparse and you're more than likely to be tended on at the bar by your very own waitier... Either way, it's hard to mess up a vodka lime, so can't complain.
Once seating in the exquisitely old fashioned New York dining room, the food is something else. We ordered the seafood platter (or something like that) to start which included a gorgeous assortment of crab, lobster, shrimp, etc. Our main was (obvi) steak which was served on the hottest, sizzling-est buttery-est platter for four, plus potatoes and sauteed spinach on the side. All in all, great. For dessert, one of their classic chocolate ice cream sundaes and big slice of cheesecake. Sounded good at the time, and in retrospect, was awesome. Not to mention some seriously good red wine to go with this amazing feast.
So, overall, Wolfgang's is a destination among destinations, but beware the (somewhat) high price point. If you're in the market for a gorgeous, semi-Luger-style meal without exiting Manhattan, here's your answer! Enjoy. -

I wanted to make it to Peter Luger, but I decided to give this a try as it had been highly recommended by a good friend.
Went for lunch around 2PM and the place was almos empty, so we had no issue getting a table for 6.
After getting the recommendations frm the waiter (very friendly and knowledgable), we ordered the classic items: ceasar salad, steak for 5, german potatoes and creamed spinach.
The meat was perfectly cooked and the potatoes were amazing. Just what you would expect in a restaurant like this.
We finished with desserts which came with the fresh whipped cream made in the house. Amazing!
Overall: this is a solid option and I will be coming back. Even if it's a bit too expensive -

I'm sure I'd love this place more if I was actually a steak fan, but for me steak is take it or leave it. Let's just say it's no sushi :). Went to Wolfgang's for a business dinner. I found the atmosphere to be way too loud and interior unoriginal. Being a business dinner we ordered the whole sha-bang. Started out with an assortment of chilled seafood, everything from shrimp, crab and lobster. We also had crab cakes and bacon strip to start. Bacon was good but I felt like I'd grow an extra butt cheek if I finished it.
Dinner of course we had the steak for several. It was good well and seasoned great. Again I don't love steak so this seemed nothing special to me. I think steak lovers would enjoy themselves for sure. Loved the creamed spinach, how can you not? also had potatoes which were good but who needs them after so much food. Dessert was not memorable, I dont think I tasted it but it looked like dated "trendy" dessert like creme brulee.
A very extravagant dinner which I happily attended for free. Would not pay the price for this place as it's just not my taste. -

Solid steakhouse. Went for the in-law's anniversary and had a great experience. Nice, old-school NYC vibe at this place. We ordered the steak for three - easily split between 5 people, I might add. Also basic sides of cottage potatoes, onion rings and creamed spinach.
Steak was decent and cooked to a nice juicy medium rare. No complaints. Service was great, and our waiter was very helpful and friendly. He was attentive and it felt like he went out of his way to make sure we got our food quickly. Not to say we were rushed in any way, more like the time we spent here flew by rather quickly.
I have had better steak elsewhere, but if you want something basic and in a convenient location, this is a good place to go. All in all, I'd certainly come back as it was a fun experience and the meal was solid. -

New York, NY
Let me start off by saying I love steak houses. And this one, while not bad, is so not worth it when you have a plethora of choice in NYC.
It starts when you get in the door. The place is packed with wall to wall, twenty something men. After a somewhat interminable wait, you are shown your seat. The space itself while noisy, is sort of cool.
With the exception of the rib eye, the menu is pretty much a Peter Luger's knockoff. The bacon. The shrimp. Even the salmon one of my friends got. There is a larger selection of sides, etc. , but i'm not sure what this adds. The steak is good: the porterhouse is better than the ribeye. The potatoes, bacon, sauteed spinach are all good, but again, so similar to Luger's that, other than the fact you don't have to cross a bridge and you can use credit cards, I wonder why bother. Its more crowded, noisy and expensive than its archetype: and the food isn't quite as good. After two trips (I believe in second chances and one of my friends loves this place) I am done. -
Review from Rahul S.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in at 8:15 pm was the massive crowd of people hanging out around the bar...its a Wednesday! Then the delicious smell of steak hit me and i became calm again.
My party of four had a reservation at 8:15 pm, but we did not get seated until 9:00 pm. What is the point of making a reservation to be seated 45 minutes later when the place is clearing out. I now understand the crowd at the bar.
The seating is also tight. Its not comfortable like Peter Lugers (which they are clearly trying to recreate). Its tight walking around and its tight going to the bathroom.
Those are the two reasons I have to give this place 2 stars.
For the food we started with the Caesar Salad, Shrimp cocktail, and BACON!!! The bacon was the star of the appetizers. Big thick cut juicy deliciousness.
The ladies each ordered their own Petite Filet and the men shared a porterhouse for two cooked absolutely perfectly. Throw in a bottle of red, a couple of scotches, and a delicious chocolate cake and you have a $400 meal that made you smile.
So despite the shitty ambiance and tight seating, the food is spectacular. And its at a normal steakhouse price.
Next time I come here, I will not make a reservation and just show up at 9 pm. -

Best steak in the city hands down. Bacon by the slice amazing. As with most good Luger style steakhouses in the City, the Porter House for 2 is the only way to go. Don't even think about ordering a filet here.

Patience is a vertue to get a table (reservation or not)
Good service, good wine. A touch expensive yet relatively fair, but reputation does that to a place.
Clientele is correct, waiters know the drill.
Not the best for a first date kinda place, but the lamb was the surprise dish for me.
You have to hand it to a steakhouse that is built up on reputation, and can still deliver to the testosterone drive demands of cavemen.
Well done sir for an exemplary dish, and a wine selection to boot.

I did not have a great experience here. The food isn't half bad and the service is attentive / sweet... but I've never had any issues before ordering food.. only to get something completely different than what's described on the menu. Or. maybe I'm not apt for steak houses.. idk
I had the chopped steak + the wolfgang's salad for lunch. I thought it was going to be a quasi steak salad... but that wasn't the case. The chopped steak was... chopped steak reformed and fried as a whole piece served with a lb of sauteed onions. The wolfgang salad was tomatoes, bacon served in a lettuce cup. Both were tasty but i mean.. so far away from imagination.
The bathroom is really interesting to get to. All I'm saying there. -

I've been to this branch many times and have always thought them superior to Luger's, but my last experience with them was terrible. We, a party of six, came for a birthday celebration on a Wednesday night. Reservations were made well in advance. Our party was complete and arrived on time. We waited over an hour for our table. The hostess kept telling us, "10 more minutes". Finally, along with the help of a few other angry customers, we got the manager to speak with us. We were then rushed to a table in the corner of the back room. Our waiter came over once and no one apologized for the more than hour wait. No apology even after many tables that came in after us were seated. It will take a lot of convincing to get me to spend hundreds of dollars at this place again.

Calling this place a Peter Luger "knockoff" does not do it justice. This place holds its own against Lugers and Sparks.
Went there for work so we did not hold back when ordering and that's the mentality you need to go into these New York steakhouses with if you're going to leave happy.
We started off a few of the special seafood platters (gotta ask for it cause it ain't on the menu) and they came out with gigantic platters full of lobster tails, fresh succulent crab meat, beautiful shrimp (not overcooked in the least) and sea scallops. If that wasn't enough for appetizer, we got some slabs of pork belly....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Then the steak come to the table and oh dear...these are perfectly cooked (obviously) beautiful, juicy slabs of prime dry aged porterhouses, rib eyes, sirloins and one filet mignon.
I did not agree with the person who ordered the filet mignon cause who really trades in flavor for tenderness? I know...lazy people who don't like to chew at all...get out of my house. With that said, I tried a piece and damn, they even make these cuts tasty.
Wine, steak, German potatoes, steak, wine, steak, creamed spinach, steak, steak steak, wine...heaven. And yes I finished my entire gigantic slab...hell yeah. -
Review from Leo K.
I'm starting to grade on a curve. Continually underwhelmed by every steak I've had in NYC, I came to Wolfgang's and held little hope for finding beef nirvana on the East Coast.
Still looking, but not a bad overall experience.
Simple menu, which I appreciate. I'm not one of those wimps that comes to a steak house and orders the Ahi as a main entree and a bunch of non-cow sides (you're allowed one potato-based side as a maximum to not be considered a wimp). Wolfgang's assumes you're here for the beef. Respect.
Back to my meal - after a quick glance at the menu, I ordered the prime NY sirloin, cooked blue. The steak arrived in a decent amount of time and after taking my first bite, I found a slab of meat that was decently aged and had above-average flavor. More importantly, Wolfgang's actually served me a blue steak instead of a rare one like most other places. Thing looked like it had been cooked by the chef's Bic. Loved it, made me feel like the neanderthal that I am at heart.

Just got into NY and we immediately went to Wolfgang's for dinner! This location is very historical and beautifully decored. We arrived and were promptly seated at a table and began to marvel at the gorgeous tiled ceilings and the beautiful dark woods.
Once the menus arrived.....I simply told the waiter.....no need to look, bacon, porterhouse steak, german potatos and creamed spinach for all four of us!
Within a few minutes, the waiter brought to us 4 strips of the thickest and tastiest bacon you can have! A great starter.
The porterhouse steak was outstanding! Juicy, tender and super tasty. The creamed spinach and german potatos were perfect sides. The spinach was one of the best that I have ever had.
For desert, we had their apple strudel with a HUGE pile of whipped cream.
The strudel tasted and looked more like an apple crepe.....so tasty, sweet and delicious....... I could of eaten one more.
Our waiters Sam and Jose were wonderful.........I took pictures with Jose who swears that he was my long lost twin. The Mgr. Edi was a very gracious host.
A great way to start a NY business trip with a fabulous dinner at Wolfgang's.Listed in: New York 5 Star Favorites, 5 Star U.S. Prime Steak…

This place is def. oriented towards the buisness crowd, and its packed on weekdays around 6-9pm. But its worth it!
They have giant porterhouse steaks for 2,3, and 4. Our party of three people ordered the steak for two, with oysters and bacon and all left stuffed. Careful how you order! Odds are you are going to have more food on your table than you cant eat!! -

Best steak I've had in the US over 6yrs and I have been trying to sample many. Authentic US steakhouse, no nonsense service and really greats atmosphere. German potatoes and spinach were a great accompaniment to a sensational rib eye. Jack behind the bar is a champ with a good story to tell. Have a great night.

I'm not one to drop 5's all day, so listen up.
The Bacon. HOLY HELL. That's some good bacon right there. If i could cut up slabs of that and slap it on my BLT sandwiches during the week, I'd be fatter than Charles Barkley on the Krispy Kreme diet. Get the bacon!
The Steak. The plate is sizzlin. The steak is juicy, tender, and crusted to perfection. What more can I say? Fight over the pieces close to the bone. Oh my. It's like butter.
The Creamed Spinach. Quite possibly, the absolute best creamed spinach I've ever had. It blew me away.
The other sides - Mashed Potatoes (just like anything else). Onion Rings (better at burger joints). Some other potato thing (pretty solid.) I wish they had mac and cheese. That would have been sweet.
The service. Solid. They're friendly, relatable, and quick. Taken care of like a brotha at a bbq.
There's a bar area to wait around at. Comes with some frosty mugs. Always a plus. It's quite pricey, but I'm guessing you knew that coming in. Overall, it's amazing. Hard to find steak like this.
