This place is so huge that they name each isle with street names. Also, you probably need a map to find your way around.

Whip out your GPS because you're going to need it when you come out here because it's in the middle of no where. But it's so worth the trip - at least a couple of times every year.

They have isles upon isles of plants - actually 7 acres! Over 300 varieties of roses, 50,000 hanging baskets and 100,000 flats of plants. If you can't find it here - it probably doesn't exist. All of these plants are $5-10 cheaper than I've seen anywhere else.

The staff is all super nice and really knowledgable. They take their time to talk with you and ask if you have any questions.

Open April 1st to Oct 31st and closed Sundays.

Yes, it's about 65 miles from the North Side and longer if you use the Tri State.  But it's worth every penny you'll spend on gas.  This is the best greenhouse/nursery I've seen in Chicago.  The prices for annual flats are about $4 less than the average at a Home Deport or regular nursery, and perennials are considerably cheaper than most places.  (I purchased a plant here for $10 that was listed at $21 at a fancy yuppie nursery.)  The selection is enormous and includes good nursery stock as well as plants.  You really can't go wrong here.  In addition, the staff is helpful, knowledgeable and somehow always manage to know where everything is in such a huge place.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The selection here for anything you want for your garden is amazing.  They have a large selection of heirlooms.  The plants are always in good shape.  They must employ the entire town because this place is absolutely massive (think 5 football fields) and all their vegetables are started from seed and properly cared for.  No yellow leaves found here.  It's a good thing to do for a day trip.  I never had a green thumb but seeing all the varieties of everything I got excited about my own garden.  I've gone back this year too and am still as impressed as I was last year.
