The Festival of Lights is a bonus to the whole Niagara Falls experience.  Children love seeing familiar characters and it's also a nice drive.  The only way to get an idea of the event is to watch this video.

We postponed our trip to Chicago by 1 day just to stay for the festival of lights.  I thought while reading the website "wow its Ontarios BIGGEST light celebration" and its sponsored by DISNEY!  Since when does disney half ass events?

i would imagine that every event they throw on would be spectacular.. (I live an hour from the happiest place on earth).  I was wrong, and delaying the plane ticket turned out to be kind of a waste of money.

First of all, the displays are 2D posts with the lighted outlines of different disney fairytales.  The entertainment consisted of a local childrens choir singing which...yes is cute for the parents of those children but quite honestly they were constantly flat and overall just really really bad...and I can say that.  I was a choir geek for 7 years!

It was freezing outside and the fireworks were meh.  Overall.. come here if you happen to be here at the time.  Dont make an effort to come here and certainly don't delay your flight!

This is more of just some city light decorations, rather than a festival.  They have some nice Disney displays, but it's not much more than that.
If you are bundled up and visiting Niagara to see the falls, this a nice little walk (perhaps ten minutes tops).

From my experience of Toronto's Cavalcade of Lights, I find Niagara Fall's Winter Festival of Lights somewhat in the same realm.  On a Saturday evening, the Lights from each destination was far and few which made it all the more difficult to completely go around to see all the elements.  No Fireworks display since we didn't arrive on a Friday night.

The thing about this area of Niagara is there aren't very much indoor area for visitors to find shelter and warm up.  No shops or vendors of any kind during Saturday night or early Sunday morning which made it look somewhat like the Falls were just for your own personal use.

The highlight for us was the Enchantment of Disney® displays which was placed on a grass field and no lit pathway to walk towards the area and take photographs with friends.  It was so dark that we saw other people coming out of nowhere and walked passed us.  Please think of safety first and bring a few friends if you do wish to walk around these parts.

There is a tour available but depending on what attractions you wish to see in Niagara region, it might or might not be value for you.  I wouldn't really go again although there is skating at the brink which sounds nice too.  The attraction is Niagara Falls itself but then you don't necessarily have to wait for Winter Festival of Lights to enjoy that.
