PECK SLIP, NY
I took my parents here for the 8 pm flamenco show and it was perfect. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. When the waitress brought out the (awesome) nutella cheesecake for a customer's birthday the entire room sang happy birthday to him. The place is small with only one waitress and can get crowded so don't expect the food to come very quickly. The waitress was very sweet and she brought our drinks out quickly with some marinated olives. The red wine sangria was full of fruit but not too sweet and will be perfect when the weather heats up. We ordered the mushroom fondue in a bread bowel and it was plenty for the three of us. I give it 4.5/5 only because the bread it is served with was too salty. Otherwise some of the best fondue I have had. I also had the pumpkin soup which was savory and delicious.
So, not only is the place super romantic and friendly, it also has free flamenco shows on thursday and sunday nights. If you are looking for a really fun and different experience, check it out! -

I'm so in love with this little place! Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, decent wine selection, and yummy cheese and snack selection. We arrived early - around 9 or so, and had our choice of tables, but it quickly filled up.
Looking forward to going back to see live music one night!! -

You can always find little surprises in the West Village and Wine Spot is definitely one of those tucked away hole in the wall places that you love once you discover it.
My friend was going on a 2 month long trip to the Nederlands/Spain so her sister picked this spot as her last weekend in NYC.
They have a wine flight from Italy, Spain and California and that was the first thing I wanted to try however, they also had a very appetizing sangria pitcher.
I debated between the sangria and the wine flight but opted for wine since the price for 4 glasses for $21 was such a steal.
I was surprised that they served all four wines immediately as I thought they would stagger them over the course of the night. What's really cool about it too was they gave you a paper mat with all these questions about wine such as the type of grape, nose, food pairing, in order for you to learn the nuances of each glass. Once you complete the little test, you flip it over and it tells you all the answers.
All that drinking along with slipping in some glasses of Sangria made me hungry so my friend and I split a black truffle oil mac and cheese. It was a definitely a different take on mac and cheese and surprisingly good!
Wine Spot is definitely a great place for a date or drinks with friends. -

Cute spot. Tasty snacks.
Had the pumpkin soup and it was really good. Thick with a nice amount of spice. Very cozy and comfortable. Looks like a good spot to bring your laptop and do some work. Good variety of teas as well.
Summer special and happy hour is $5 everything. Otherwise $7 everything. Good deal. -

I don't call it as a sexy or romantic atmosphere, but definitely warm, cozy, cute and relaxing place.
Having a glass of Spanish wine while seeing a short Flamenco performance was pretty nice. They have flamenco performance on Thursday and Sunday.
Food seemed little bit too salty, but it could have been because we had Cheese fondue and salad with Parmigiano dressing together. -

OK, so here's a real problem:
I have only ever come here for happy hour to take advantage of the $5 sangria "special". Well to my dismay, when I came here on Wednesday, it turns out that THE HAPPY HOUR IS A SCAM. Before the happy hour ended at 8:30, I was trying desperately to get a hold of my inattentive waitress for like half an hour. She didn't acknowledge my existence until about 8:32 and proceeded to give me my drink and then tell me after the fact that it's not happy hour priced anymore. So it turns out that the full priced sangria, which is only $7, comes in a significantly larger glass than the happy hour sangria. In effect, you are actually paying MORE during happy hour for a smaller glass of sangria. This is really SHADY.
If I were you, I'd avoid this place. If you must, however, I'd ask the waitress for the non-happy hour sangria because it is proportionally a better deal. What a rip!!
On top of that, the waitress was a complete idiot. Usually, I get the narcissistic actor as our server, but at least he knows a little about his wine. I asked this chick about their hot sangria (something I'd never heard of before) and she was like, "It's sangria and it's hot. I don't know; some people like it hot." Thanks, Tony Curtis.
I am ONLY giving this place 2 stars because the fondue was to die for. Everything else gets 1 star.1 Previous Review: Show all »

We have been here couple of times already. A tiny underground place but extremely cosy and a good place to have a chat. The happy hour specials are good with 5$ wine/sangria/beer and some appetizers. The chorizo is a good choice. The lady who served us was extremely friendly and met our request promptly when we requested for some olive oil on the side for the bread. And the free Wi-Fi helps :)
We would probably go back again if we are in the area and in mood for some small chat. -

Let's get real - this place is NOT a 4 star average. It has 4 stars only because very few paople have ever reviewed it (only 23 when I'm writing this) and the few reviews it ever got were obviously not very discerning. Main merit: being a wine bar in Greenwich Village - and not a dive. Other than that: average wine, mediocre food (cheese plate - meh.); nice decor, woodsy downstairs and cozy interiors. Overall a cute place but not blown away by it.

Soooo adorable! It's tiny tiny tiny, as in, it fits like 10 people on the first floor (or second floor, depending on how you look at it) and the space is majorly cramped. However, once you order a pot of tea (I love Moroccan tea), you get a tray of your tea essentials and a glass of water if you so desire and you feel like Alice in Wonderland. A big person in a small room! I made my way down the narrow stairs to a place that becomes the Wine Spot after 6PM but is still technically part of Tea Spot during daylight hours. There, ensconced in a faux queen's throne with a rickety side table to put my tea tray upon, I can spend hours upon hours on my laptop (free wi-fi!) doing work or whatnot. If you don't like the idea of sitting your arse on some plump upholstery you can also seat yourself on a single or double or triple person bench and work on a real table. Whichever way, it is cozy!
I definitely feel like I landed in some person's renovated basement (in the best sense possible), and yet this "downstairs" is actually on ground level. The tea is excellent and even though space is sparse I usually find somewhere to drop myself, whether it is a couch, a bench, a chair, a highchair or a sofa.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Tiny, cute, village establishment that serves decent wine and surprisingly decent food too! Prices were affordable and we were impressed with the quality of the cheese and even the Chicken Satay skewers. The one negative was that our waitress, while quite nice, had NO IDEA about wine. She wasn't able to describe any of the wines we asked about ... but she did offer to let us try them. We tried two, didn't like one, and she easily brought us a different one to taste.
Good place for a date -- provided you know a little bit about wines and know what to order! -

the owner contacted me about the bad service and offered to make things right. Addressed the problem and assured she would train the staff better. They do care about their customers, just unfortunate that one server can ruin a whole experience. Give it a try, wine was really good, atmosphere was great. If you have a good server you'll prob get a 3-4 star experience.

Should be called quite, cozy, romantic spot. You walk down the stairs into a cellar and you are greeted with a small but comfortable room. My wife and I found a nook in the back where we could sit together and take in the whole room.
The service was great. We had the California wine flights. We were served by the owner and we were not disappointed by her selection of wines. -

Wine Spot is the best! I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine who lives in the neighborhood and adores it as well. I honestly would not have been able to find it otherwise because it is tucked underground (truly a hidden gem!). They have a nice selection of wine - plus, the sangria is dangerously good! We always order one of their awesome cheese platters which are the best with a glass of wine and they have some great small plates to choose from as well. Whether you're looking for a cute place to go out with the girls, suggest as a first date spot or even have a special group gathering (Yes! you can even ask them to host a group and fill the place for a few hours - it's all yours and they have a great "group menu"!) then you definitely have to check this place out!

Absolutely an adorable place for a date. We've been here various times and have seen couples cozying up near the fireplace over a glass of wine or their delish sangria. Secret ingredient in their sangria: coca-cola! Have the truffle mac and cheese and any salad as they are always light and fresh. The sliders are good, too as are the cheese plates. They play pandora or someone's Ipod and it's always good music. A small space, but different and one to visit over and over again! We usually stop here before heading to Minetta :-)

Manhattan, NY
I'll preface this by saying that, after walking around in the sweltering heat for far too long, I popped into this little nook simply to soak up some AC. Little did I know, and much to my surprise, I ducked into a quaint oasis of wine, tea, and snacks.
Dehydrated, sun-burned, and grumpy. Slowly, these things started to melt away as soon as I stepped in and was greeted by a very pleasant barrista. Although the prices were slightly more than I was looking to spend yesterday afternoon, the barrista let us in on a little secret: SANGRIA ($5.50/glass). Serve 'em up, please!
Well worth the $5.50, your sangria will come in a huuuuge glass, loaded with alcohol-soaked fruit. If you're like me, you'll struggle to get through the entire thing...but I realize that most people are not lightweights, and will have no trouble sucking this thing down.
The ambiance is cool, light, and refreshing. The upstairs area is a little crammed, but not uncomfortably so. There's almost a rustic feel, and it makes you wanna stay, engage in thoughtful conversation...and keep the drinks coming. With all the alcohol, though, you'll probably have to wander downstairs to use the restroom. When you do, you'll be greeted by a second little dining area...that feels like it belongs in Frodo's hometown. The second I walked down into this area, I thought...."where are all the hobbits?" The unisex bathroom is clean and spacious...though I can totally see myself tumbling down those stairs after 1 or 4 glasses of sangria.
I should just say that this little spot is a breath of fresh air away from all the lame NYU bars in the area. I'm generally quite over the whole W 4, MacDougal neighborhood, but this was a surprising treat...and I can't wait to go back. Cheers! -

Cozy place, good wine. Will be back for more wine and to try the food. -

I recently went to Wine Spot with a friend after searching for a place in the NYU area that actually had seating on a very busy Friday night. Wine Spot, tucked away nicely from the crowds, turned out to be perfect.
We had to walk down some stairs into the bar. Once we got in we were welcomed by a very jovial waiter and given the choice to sit at a table or two over-sized chairs by the faux fireplace that replaced wood burning logs with multiple candles. We opted for the comfy chairs by the "fireplace." I enjoyed the atmosphere even if it is sparsely decorated. It's quite cozy on a cold Winter night. And they played a selection of current pop music which I found strangely nice for a wine bar.
We opted to order a bottle of the Cabernet which was brought out quickly and enjoyed a nice quiet time away from the dreaded crowds of NYU. Definitely good on a weekend night where you can drink good wine and enjoy conversation while steering clear of drunk co-eds. -

Adorable! Eric K. and I scouted this sweet spot together and were thrilled to learn that they'll also serve you from the upstairs Tea Spot menu. Wine followed by almond tea = delish.

What a great find. Stumbled upon this place after walking around Washington Square. They had just started a new happy hour - $5 wine special and $5 appetizer specials. The white wine special was a great quality wine and caprese salad and chicken skewers were delicious and good sized portions for $5 each. The place is really small, but very cute. A great place for a quiet conversation with a friend or a date.

The tiny, dimly lit Wine Spot is best described as warm, cozy, and romantic. The service is friendly and provides good recommendations for food/wine. We loved our bottle of wine so much that we ended up ordering another glass - admittedly probably more than I should drink in one night! Additionally, our tasty mushroom and cheese fondue in a bread bowl was the perfect compliment to our wine.

Wine Spot did anything but hit the spot in my book. I suppose anywhere that does tea upstairs (Tea Spot is connected by stairs in the back) and vino downstairs, just isn't going to be fabulous. After leaving our first choice due to overcrowding, Ino on Bedford Street, my lady and I were eager to escape the cold with a bottle of wine and perhaps a few olives. Well, I never did get my olives, what kind of wine bar (and I use that term loosely) doesn't have olives?
We ordered a bottle of Sangiovese and a cheese platter for one to share. The cheese was ok (the blue cheese slightly tastier that its counterparts) but the wine was nothing special. It definitely was not worth the $36 we dropped on it.
The place was crowded and the ambiance left much to be desired. Between the awful music and the two obnoxious couples to our right (one of which was making gross comments to his wife about body shots), I would have been much happier buying a bottle of wine with my lady and drinking it at home.
There was one server for about eight tables. The woman seemed very overwhelmed and we even felt bad for her until my partner saw her sampling the wine! To be very picky I have to say that it bothered us that she didn't open the wine at our table and that the woman had a bit too much trouble pouring it as well. It took about 15 minutes for us to get our check and when we finally did we were so eager to get out of there that we didn't even look at it, and promptly handed our card over for her to take. Well, we learned our lesson! When the bill came for me to sign, somehow a $36 bottle of wine and a $12 dollar cheese plate added up to over $70 dollars! After waiting another ten minutes to flag her down, she apologized for her mistake (though in the process she didn't seem to have a clue what we had actually ordered) and said she'd void it and bring us a new check. I waited ten more minutes and finally went up to her and asked her if I could sign so we could leave. She directed me to go upstairs to sign it at the Tea Spot! After finally leaving I received an alert on my phone letting me know that I had been charged twice from this upstanding establishment. Being only a few blocks away at this point, we quickly returned to settle the matter. The young gentleman on the top floor in the Tea Spot was very cordial and apologetic, he even seemed to be aware of the chaos ensuing below. Let me just say that I believe one star is a bit generous for this "wine spot". -

This is the new wine-and-light-fare place in the basement of the Tea Spot on Macdougal in the Village. It shares management with the Tea Spot, although it's a distinctly different feel.
We went for a bit of savory dessert (wine and cheese) and had a pleasant experience. The room is on the dark side but not cramped. The proprietor was (I believe) our congenial hostess.
The wine list was two short pages of whites and reds, with a bit of bubbles to start and a couple of dessert wines to end -- a tight edit to say the least. The bias on the reds was strongly in favor of big Spanish -- five or six of ten total. Everything was available by the bottle or glass -- mostly $11 glasses, although the sauterne got up to $16. The bottle prices were all (if I recall correctly) under $50. A bit of surprise, that -- a few more expensive bottles and glasses might be a good option in th elong run.
We had the (one) Riesling, the (one) sauterne and were pleased with these. The hostess was good enough to let me reconsider my first choice of red, which I didn't care for when tasted, and to engage in a useful discussion that ended up with something I preferred. That ultimately chosen wine was the one I knew enough about to have gotten in the first place -- Juan Gil Monastrell, a tasty cousin of the even tastier the El Nido "Clio" (both from Jumilla, shared ownership).
The hot food menu looked interesting, but we cannot comment as we had already dined. We did have one of the five offered cheese plates, each loosely aligned to one or more style of wine (bubbles, whites, reds, dessert, assorted), and found it to be a nicely balanced mix of flavors, and at $13.99 for the "for one" plate more than enough for two people to share for dessert. The "for two" plate at twice the price must be enjoyed in lieu of dinner, not after it... -

What a find!!! After walking around lower Manhattan in the freezing cold for most of the evening, my husband and I stumbled upon this place. As soon as we got inside, we were instantly struck by the warm and intimate atmosphere that this place offered. We were immediately greeted by the owner (who was so sweet with his eagerness to make us feel welcome). We had such a good time that night. The playlist was great, the wine was even better - a great place for a night cap. This little "Wine Spot" is certainly going to be our "New Spot!"

tucked nicely underground, below a tea bar (how appropriate) so even on a busy friday night, it isn't overcrowded or noisy. the service is great. attentive and friendly. the wine selections could be more extensive but it works for me! the people who come here vary extensively which is great! very diverse and they don't judge or are pushy for you to leave. its a tiny place, so it's much better as an intimate setting. i would say for no more than 4 people. super charming with brick walls, wood furnishings, and dim lighting. i didn't try this, but next time i go i would like to have the cheese pairings with certain wines your order.

This place is pretty great. I found it when my friend from Chicago came to visit this past weekend and we planned on catching a late show nearby at the Comedy Cellar. We wanted to kill some time before the show started, so we decided to check out the Wine Spot, which we had passed by perchance. This subterranean wine bar is cozy and warm. It offers a fine and affordable wine selection and a nice variety of cheeses and tapas. Very nice first date spot or just a spot to go have a few drinks and conversation with friends. We actually ended up missing the show at Comedy Cellar because we felt so comfortable in the Wine Spot. The husband (Fernando) of the owner (Gabriella) was very courteous and amicable. Gabriella used to work in finance and Fernando works in accounting during the day and helps out around the bar at night. It was also nice to see the couple live the American Dream. I had promised them that I would write a review about the place on Yelp, so here I am. The Wine Spot is definitely a place worth check out.
