YUM! Was sad when the location on Main Street closed. Was happy when my honey told me that a location had opened on Commercial Drive. Was happier still once I tried the new location and found the food to be delicious.
Reasonably priced. Daily specials. Quick, friendly service.
Poutine is decent. Really nice chips, just the right about of crispy. Big curds. A beef/chicken gravy that is delicious but not too salty.
Decent burgers. Yam fries and amazing chipotle mayo. (Pic: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... )
Fish is a good deal. Reasonably sized pieces, tasty batter, and perfectly prepared in hot, fresh oil. (Pic: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... ) -

Brand new, this fish and chips haven moved from it's popular place on Main Street to Commercial Drive. That's another score for the Drive!
As it should be, the fish batter was thin, flavourful and crispy. The fish however was a little too overcooked for my taste (I do prefer it on the raw side) but in all fairness, the fish slices were thick and flaky and my husband quite liked it. I should note we took it home, so the fish may have dried out in the process. The fries were slightly soggy as well.
It was a nice looking joint with well-meaning staff members. The beer specials advertised outside looked fantastic too ($10 a pitcher). My husband commented that a lot of great local and international beers were on the menu. We will have to eat-in next time.
I will not however have the french onion soup again. A somewhat burnt slice of bread covered a mountain of cooked onions. While the soup base was rather delectable, the processed cheese covering the soup detracted from its taste.
Based on my limited experience, I will come back for eat-in fish and beer. I look forward to seeing this successful restaurant flourish for many more years on the Drive. People still need to find out about it, but I'm sure it won't be a secret for long. -

The fish and chips are certainly tasty, but I come to Windjammer for the fried clam strips. Freakin' delicious!

I've been looking for a great fish n' chip place ever since Bud's closed down and I've finally found it. We ordered the halibut and chips and it was lovely, the fish fresh and chunky, the batter light and not greasy. The coleslaw was just the way I like it, Montreal deli style. The chips were crispy and I smothered them with malt vinegar and salt. An ice cold wheat beer went down well and we left quite satisfied vowing to come back soon. Highly recommended, don't miss out on this little gem!
