Although Superstore's Liquor joint is right down the way, Im going to be a snob and admit that I like Willow Park better because its classier. They have staff on hand with tons of knowledge on all their products. I remember one time looking for a bottle of Scotch for a boyfriend. The staff scotch "connoisseur" was tied up, so they had a regular client, who I must say was the cutest older gentleman, help me and not only did he tell me the ENTIRE history of Scotch, my bf looooved what I ended up purchasing.
On Thursdays they have samples of different drinks, and I have to admit not only have I gotten tipsy off these samples, it made me buy more wine than I initially intended to. GENIUS tactic.
They have classes offered here, as well as events...and is yet another one stop shop, as they are right next to Sprinkbank Cheese, Papa Chocolat (Bernard Callebaut's new shop) Meez (organic, healthy to go food) Cobbs Bread, and Starbucks....EVIL... -

After reading all the reviews, I made the trek down from Edmonton.
I am impressed. Not only is the selection of everything remarkable, they had a sale on beer. The staff knew what they were talking about and after a few minutes I had no hesitation in trying everything and anything they recommended.
What was especially notable was the large selection of craft beer and an equally impressive selection of Port.
They also hold many functions including tastings and dinners. -

So this place is by my house, you can see it from my balcony. I don't frequent it because I'm a girl of simple taste. Bud light in the fridge, and I'm happy. Really. I like nice fancy beer but I don't make a habit of buying it and I don't drink wine, so I usually ignore this place.
However the couple times I have gone in I've been impressed. The selection is very vast. It's nothing too crazy in terms of beer selection but wine & spirits are definitely abundunt at WP. The service is friendly, and they don't glare you down if you take forever to decide on what you want because really, there's so much to choose from an in-and-out visit would be nearly impossible!
Definitely give Willow a visit if there's something specific you want to find, or if you're just looking to try something new. They have a ton of variety and experts on site to help you find the perfect bottle. -

Somehow despite working in Willow Park for over a year (and loving alcohol!), I never made it to Willow Park Wines until recently. But while working there I noticed that all the staff from WP Wines that I interacted with were friendly and professional, which is awesome!
I recently decided to teach myself about wine, so the first place that popped into my head was this one. The store is HUGE! And it is almost all wine, so what a place to start. I decided not to ask for any help because I really just wanted to browse, and didn't see any spare people around anyways. They have a massive selection but after browsing, I picked a few to try.
Next time I go, I'll definitely ask their advice as I imagine that they have lots of experience in introducing newbies to wine. Also I would love to check out their events one day as they seem to throw some really good ones - I remember one night seeing tons of people in fancy, vintage-style outfits pulling up in old-school limos...I really want to know what was going on, hah. -

I love Willow Park.
No, not just the shopping centre ... when I say "Willow Park," I am usually specifically referring to one location:
...my favourite place in the city for beer, wine and liquor.
With a large array of selection and a (usually) friendly, knowledgeable staff, this place is perfect if you are looking to get a unique "adult beverage" gift for someone, or if you just want to get your regular ol' drink on.
The beer department is the best. Not only is the selection great, but the prices are fairly standard and the "beer dudes" are always willing to help you find something in your taste (or recommend their current personal favourites).
The young & jolly, bearded "piratey" guy is the best. If he notices you are scoping the case, he loves to make small talk and share his love for (what MUST be his favourite subject ...) beer.
Although I no longer live nearby, this place will always be my "regular" stop for when I want to find some good beer, wine or liquor. -

You know what cooks my gullet? chafes my chain-mail ?wets my dragon? splints my broadsword? curbs my arrow? smudges my scroll?
I hate it when I walk into a liquor merchant- be it the local neighbourhood store or the evil superstore depot- and in my search for a refreshing bottle of mead I'm met with dumbfounded queries as to what mead is. Why it is the sweet nectar of the gods! The tears of a million flower maidens! The golden droplets of Valhalla!
Worse yet, I am met with sarcastic responses like "nooo, we don't carry THAT here.." in which I am forced to respond with malicious medieval justice, (or at the very least, cast hexes and spells behind their backs)
Well imagine my surprise when I walk into the wine mecca of Willow Park Wines and Spirits and have my quest fulfilled as I am met with a gleeful "MMEEEAD!? We have a humble but pleasing selection, right this way my lord..". Soon enough I was directed to a respectable shelf of mead selections. Although they did not carry mead from all six corners of the flat world, they did carry a variety in which I was happy to barter for including the spiced mead I happened to enjoy after a cumbersome day of warlock slaying. Unfortunately they would only accept money in all its forms of wizardry, meaning cash, debit, or credit card. They seem to lack understanding of how priceless of a dragon's gullet is.
In all seriousness, this place is great. A little pricey on some of the liquor sold but I've visited numerous times and never left empty handed. The customer service is impressive in that they always have a recommendation for whatever your needs are and are very compromising to your price range. I am not much of a wine drinker but I was really impressed with their wine section and I would be interested in trying out their wine tasting events.
Yah I go nuts over mead, you should see me when I go on a sake hunt :D -

I love the selection here. This is my liquor store of choice when I'm looking for something specific because I know they'll most likely have it on the shelf. They constantly have different things going on in the store and the staff are always available to help or make a suggestion.

Wow, you must go here!
A huge liquor store, with many beers, wines, etc that you won't find anywhere else. Usually sampling some products on the weekend, and staff are relatively helpful.
You could spend a fortune in here - with some REALLY expensive bottles locked away in cabinets. I come to dreambuild.
Saw a bottle of dom perignon for $180 - out of my price range. :(
Would be nice to drink on new years...
Buy a sixer of an import beer, or some 'made in Canada' suds, and you can't go wrong.
Cheers. -

WPWS has pretty much everything booze related, extensive beer fridges with European and Domestic beers and some Japanese.
Wine from all the usuals, spirits likewise, but if Whisky is your tipple then they have the best selection I have seen to date, they have the cheaper blended whiskies but also if you have the cash they have some high end Malt whiskies some reaching $300.
Well set out, staff are ok, haven't done the tasting classes but they seem to get busy on the nights there on.
Location is good as the North Sea Fish Market is right next door and Cheese store next to them, Safeway round the corner, so you can do all your shopping for a wine and dine all in minutes of each other.
Expect to pay slightly higher than Superstore, but worth it for the extra selection if you need it. -

Really the staff at this store are not very friendly. Went to a wine event and wanted to purchase one of the wines we tasted. Cashier charged the wrong price and made me go back to the wine rack to prove the real price then had to wait for manager to refund, who then refunded the wrong amount. Whern told him he was wrong he got mad and said I ruined his day and refused to sell us the wine. Wow!! Everyone out there, there are sooo many better wine stores in Calgary to spend your money.

One mammoth of a store. Boasting the largest selection of wines and spirits in Canada, LCBO has got NOTHIN' on this place. Hell, just ask any one of the 22 sommeliers on staff. (Yes, I did just say TWENTY-TWO).
What impressed me most about this place, aside from their selection, is that they offer cool classes! Different chefs from around town teach classes on the different pairings between food and wine. Plus they also offer wine tasting classes, and who doesn't like to drink and learn?!?!
If you've never been, prepare to be blown away. -
Review from Gabe A.
The most extensive collection of wines and spirits in the south, with good prices. Plenty of domestic and import beers (love my Hoegaarten), Hungarian and Italian wine, and some high end $300 bottles of liquor for those special occasions. Its proximity is a definite bonus when you need something for the evening, whether classy or ashy.
