I've heard incredible things about Wild Oat so I decided to check it out for the first time today. Upon entering the man at the counter was friendly, patient and helpful, after a ridiculously long time I decided to try a sandwich called "apple ease" with apples, brie, caramelized onions, green onions and cilantro. I had the option of 3 types of bread, one was a gluten free one I've never heard of, one was multi grain and the other was just white. I went with the multi grain one.

The sandwich was a really good size and had lots of everything in it. I wasn't huge on the cilantro but that's ok because I'm pretty sure they're made to order, so I'll just exclude it next time. The brie, onions and apple were great though, it was melty and oniony and sweet at the same time. It reminded me of something you'd get at the Works, without the burger of course! The sandwich was $6.50 which is a steal considering it was very filling, unique and fresh. I've heard their breakfast is amazing so I'd like to try it sometime.

The Wild Oat is a warm, colourful cafe and bakery in the Glebe. They make a great cup of coffee and tasty smoothies. Last time I went I split the pear and brie crepe with a friend. It tasted even better than it sounds!

Lots of healthy and veggie options here. Everytime I've been it's been packed, but you can always manage to find a place to sit. The bakery next door is great too, I bought a cheap fresh baguette, it was still warm when I got home.

You can't really feel bad or guilty for eating here!

Everything is relatively wholesome. I haven't been here in ages, I usually don't shop in this area but if I am in the area I try to stop in here.

I had one of the best sandwiches of my life here. I loved it so much I tried making my own recipe of it for years after and serve it to guests. Is that bad? Kind of. I know.

You know the bakeries that seem wholesome but you wouldn't want to eat anything there? Wild Oat was not that kind of bakery. It's gorgeous and smelled delicious. There was a lot of bread and baked goods available, along with soups and other meals. Everything was quite tempting. Day old items were only $0.25 off and 2 day old were 50% off, which is frankly one of the worst offers I've seen, but I guess it's better than nothing. I guess.

This is a vegetarian cafe with sweets and some menu items like raw pizza and sandwiches, they also have a cold case where you can by drinks and prepared foods.

My Brother brought me here while I was in town visiting for just a quick hot beverage before dinner. I got the hot chocolate which was made with fair trade cocoa and then sweetened with maple syrup ( I think, maybe honey?)
I liked that they had the option or Milk (reg) organic milk, and soy milk. Organic Milk is .50 cents extra added to whatever beverage you got.
My Hot Chocolate was pretty good. I was disappointed that they didnt have whipped cream to go with it, and I felt that 30 % of my small Hot Cocoa was foam... I didnt order a latte, I didnt want foam.

Didnt try any of the desserts or food, But they looked good. Maybe next time.

I'm pretty sure that Wild Oats is what reminded me how small Ottawa really is. A quaint corner shop in the Glebe district, Wild Oats is the go-to novelty organic café.  A pleasant atmosphere with 2two sides: one the bakery and take-away foods, the other coffee and eat in with a small breakfast and lunch menu.  Offerings include:  wheat & gluten-free alternatives, dairy-free foods, raw foods and specialty coffees & teas.

The place is busy most of the time and justified considering there are few of its kind in Ottawa. After leaving slightly disappointed I almost felt spoiled for having lived in places where these 'novelty' items have become basics.

The quality and atmosphere was great for what it was. I think I was disappointed more so about the lack of variety. Spelt was the only wheat-free alternative and most dishes included some sort of dairy. Don't get me wrong, I will be back but I suppose I was just looking and/or expecting more."

As a visitor to Ottawa, it was a little out of my way to head down to visit Wild Oat, but totally worth it! I didn't realise it was half cafe/half bakery til I got there - as I was pretty hungry I went with the cafe side first (I didn't realise there was a buffet and other food around there - but hey, there's only so much you can try in one visit).

I had a quick scan of the menu boards - it seemed I'd missed any breakfast/brunch time so sandwich it was! None of the options are explicitly marked 'vegan' so you just have to read over everything carefully and/or double check with the cashier. I had an 'East Meets West' sandwich, expertly whipped up by the sandwich guy, and devoured in no time by me. Tofu, avocado, caramelised onion, tahini, pesto, all sorts of deliciousness - plus the regular sandwich fixin's of tomato and lettuce. Lightly toasted and plated with a cute garnish of apple and sunflower sprouts, it really hit the spot.

I had a look through the bakery after that, and as I was going to be hitting the road I had to buy something reasonably transportable (it's a pity, I would've liked to try the buffet options or the vegan pizza). I grabbed a cranberry brunch cookie, a choc-chip walnut cookie and a ginger/molasses cookie for my train-ride home. The muffins were calling to me, but perhaps next time. I hope there is a next time! I'd like to spend a bit more time in the Glebe area too, seems very laid back and cozy.

This is my second favourite vegetarian restaurant in Ottawa (after the Green Door). The food is fresh, creative and delicious. I always leave feeling somehow lighter and healthier than when I entered, even after I filled myself to the gullet with their two egg traditional breakfast. However, I would more so recommend getting a salad or soup with the pear and brie crepe, apple ease sandwich or east meets west sandwich.

The Wild Oat also has a bakery, small grocery and take out section. The take out area usually has at least one lasagna, curry, soup, chili and rice/quinoa dish available. The bakery stocks organic bread, muffins, cookies, quiche and other baked goods. I recommend the chocolate hemp brownie. It's a little on the dry side, but still very tasty.

    Hempseed brownie, take me now.

As a vegan, this place is pretty much my haven when the Green Door isn't cozy enough and I'm in the mood for some Glebe. They've got a great selection of dairy, egg, and gluten free desserts, delicious salads and breads and a little buffet that has some wholesome yummy options.

For those of you trying to save a buck, grab some of the day-old pizzas and sandwiches that they've got in the cooler by the cash. If the food is 'expired' you get it for free. I put expired in quotations because it's EDIBLE, and good, and that's what matters.

The food was very good and I think the above people pretty much covered that so I'll mention some of the things I found odd. First, at least as of a few weeks ago, they don't take credit cards which is a bummer. Second, they boot you out after 30 minutes of sitting at a table during lunch time. So don't plan on any kind of leisure lunch. Otherwise, it's a totally cute place with good food and service. A very diverse crowd too - moms with babies, business people, vegans, etc.
