Review from Emilie C.
I have dreams about this place. The atmosphere, the smells, the and decor make this place a super chill hang out. By bringing a book with me, I can spend hours reading and snacking and sipping at Wild Flour. Their coconut carrot cake makes my mouth water just by conjuring an image of it in my mind. Their tea lattes are made with tea from The Banff Tea Company down the street.
You're able to order a variety of baked goods and keep them for however long they last before you consume them all. These usually don't last me until the end of that work day. They make these cookies. Fig and Anise. Sounds wrong and strange, but they taste unreal and so different, that you can't stop! Amazing. And their Mexican chocolate cookies have a pleasant hint of spice. Their scones are also sweet and fruity, I especially love the raspberry ones when they're in. The bread, oh the bread. Their dark beer bread is delicious and I have to stop myself from going overboard on it. Soooooo tasty!
The people who work here are friendly and prompt, yet still laid-back, which makes for good vibes. Wild Flour also have self-serve water and occasional samples of the baked goodies. They hold activities nights, I really wish I'd gone while I lived in Banff.
Overall, I just love this place! It gets nice sunlight too, so reading a book, or just reflecting with a chai tea latte are my fave ways to spend a winter/spring afternoon. I'M IN LOVE! -

Yum yum yum yum YUM. Yum everything. The food, the desserts, the drinks. Gluten-free vegan chocolate cake can taste THAT good? Yep. I suggest ordering the soup of the day and the quinoa salad for lunch. My staple. And try their hot chocolate - with coconut milk. Go Wild! You can hike it off afterwords....

If you are in Banff or just travel the TCH the 'Wild Flour Bakery' is worth a short stop. They offer fresh made sandwiches, soups, a variety of coffee and more. There is usually a line-up and seating is limited so avoid the peak times.
Tip: Take a look at the loafs of bread they sell! -

Wild Flour Bakery & Cafe is AMAZING! We are so upset that only one exists (hundreds of kilometres from where we live). We were accidentally overcharged and we received free goodies from two very friendly staff.
We ordered two vegetarian chilli's with two sandwiches (portobello mushroom melt and ham melt). Along with a lemonade, cafe latte, and a vegan chocolate cake. Everything was fantastic.
The location is perfect because it is away from the hectic tourist avenue but is within walking distance to this avenue. There is ample seating space and the environment is wonderfully relaxed.
Must Eat:
The sour-dough bread is phenomenal! -

At first, I fretted... the scone selection is small - only a sweet and a savoury option. The sweet - white chocolate and cranberry - was my first choice, but I went with the barista's suggestion and tried the basil, cheese and pepper. Stellarly spicy! It's been a number of days and I'm still thinking about how great it tasted while I bitterly raced in my car away from the mountainous town of Banff. Wild Flour It's a slow paced place with breakfast served all day and a decent selection of sammies for lunch as well. Gluten free options also line their shelves. Lots of indoor and outdoor tables and plenty of parking on the street.
The americano I sipped on my drive was well balanced. Although, if you do go with a one shot, keep in mind, it comes in a small cup. Trials? $5 minimum for cards... and because their prices are reasonable, an americano and a scone come in at 4ish. You are given a number which makes sense for cooked food, but to wait for a scone in a bag? I think that can be streamlined, just a bit! But in a place where laid back seems ingrained in the culture, it seems to fit the bill! -

I just discovered this place and really like it. The food was fresh and appetizing. I had the soup of the day (sweet potato, mushroom, and leek) with a slice of sourdough bread. For $5-something, it was a pretty good deal. On another occasion I had a latte and an almond croissant. The croissant was a bit overwhelming because it was dipped in syrup and had an almond filling. It was good, but I couldn't finish it. I'll be back for sure!

To Wild Flour,
I dig you and your tasty coffee, and delicious bread, and how you have the option of loose leaf tea (although you ruin it by putting it in those gross reuseable bags and not letting it float freeeeeee). I also love how you have vegan and raw food options. Your vegan chocolate cake as well as vegan anise seed cookies are quite tasty and I love to visit you, Wild Flour, on quaint little afternoons. If I lived in Banff I would study at you all the time and pretend to write and look pretentious and awesome. Sometimes your staff kind of sucks at liking life and being polite, but otherwise I cannot complain.

The breakfast sandwiches are to die for. It's a result of the fantastic sourdough, and whatever they put in the egg frittata. You gotta have it with ham, and a little hot sauce, but it's excellent and highly recommend it.
Aside from that however, the fare at the Wild Flour is excellent. Fresh bread every day, awesome gluten free/nut free/raw options. They did 2 daily topped foccacia, one meat and one veg that were both excellent and meals unto themselves. I had a daily soup there, a shittake mushroom and ginger, that was very very good. And let's not forget all the panini/grilled sandwiches and the baked goods themselves.
Pretty decent Kicking Horse coffee, and a reasonable espresso machine (and baristas) mean the drinks are pretty solid (they even have a Canadiano - apparently an Americano made with love).
In the evenings they had live music some nights, and I seem to remember a calzone making evening. Pretty good fun.
Overall it's a little on the expensive side for lunch, but then again it is in Banff, so it's to expect, and relatively it's no pricier than local places. Definitely worth a visit of you're around the area, but you've gotta try that breakfast sandwich. -

Good for breakfast, quite expensive. Prefer to have lunch at the Bison Restaurant & Lounge

Quaint little cafe that specializes in natural and organic, serves wonderful lattes and cappuccino! Try their savoury croissant, it's so good! We also ordered the prosciutto sandwich (it was just ok) and a cranberry orange muffin (not too sweet, loved it).
Great cafe to have breakfast or lunch, or if you just need to take a break from walking around. -

One of the BEST hot chocolates I've had in a long time... frothy foam art included.
Wild Flour also offers organic coffees, teas, sweet bakery and savory treats all conveniently located in the heart of downtown Banff. Perfect for an afternoon snack. -
Review from Monica L.
Unlike the other coffee shops around Banff, Wild Flour doesn't have the air of a tourist trap. It is a bona fide bakery, providing lots of tasty (so I hear) breads and pastries. I came here for a quick breakfast and coffee. The breakfast items are cheap (mostly under $5) and are more creative than, say, a scone or breakfast sandwich. My toasted wheat puff granola with stewed fruit and organic yogurt may have been a little hippie-dippy, but whatever, it was rather good. Coffee is self-serve and tasty, but the small cup is really very small.
One thing I have noticed about Canadian coffee shops is that you are expected to clean up after yourself, even if you are dining in with proper dishware. Why this is not implemented and expected in the States is beyond me. -

Good atmosphere, tasty lattes, average food. Breakfast panini was interesting but not particularly great. Atmosphere is very granola and welcoming. Food is organic. You have to put your own dishes in a bin for them.
Bottom line: worth stopping for coffee, a pastry or pie, but probably not much more. -

Definitely made a point to come here strictly based off of yelp reviews! The coffee and lattes were excellent! The barista was making lovely shapes in the lattes and macchiatos too -- I got a heart but I saw her make some sort of leaf in another cup. The pastries here were good, we had a chocolate croissant and a blueberry almond muffin. The muffin was a bit on the dry side, and the croissant was big and buttery. If you're in Banff and want a great coffee shop, definitely give Wild Flour a visit!

WONDERFUL bakery. Loved this spot. We went here everyday for breakfast (and we would have gone for lunch too if we weren't out hiking). Loved the breakfast options - whole wheat waffles with berry compote, herbed breakfast sandwiches, fruit, yogurt & berries, etc. The chai lattes were incredible...I'm not a chai latte fan b/c of this place. And, the mexican hot chocolate was wonderfully spicy.
I only wish they had a cookbook!!! -

Coffee was average. On par with Starbucks. Tomato soup was solid. Grilled cheese was decent but cheese is always yummy. I could've done without the attitude from barista though. Snobbish long term English tourist should pump her brakes and take her hypocritical self home. Chocolate banana muffin was good, but not as good as the one I had at the Vancouver airport...

The food is reasonably price, and really yummy and filling. The place also is a good people watching spot, also the music is cool to listen to. Lunch is a must have here while in Banff

A very good restaurant. Small--lots of natura and organic items. Great bakery. Very busy. Not a ton of seating. When nice, there is outdoor seating too.

Excellent for a quick bite. An eclectic menu: you want to try it all. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and enough for two to share. Also had a cranberry muffin which was very nice. The Mexican hot chocolate was different, with a chili powder flavor that had a kick. Not sweet but still pretty good. A great place to chill.

Great choice for a quick morning breakfast and coffee in Banff! Cool atmosphere, good local vibe and the bakery items were phenomenal. We liked the whole wheat croissant but the apricot bar was the most memorable.

This is a great cafe that has organic food and moderate prices. I went there three times in a seven day period. I tried the whole wheat flax seed waffles, the egg sandwich and the ham sandwich. Every time I visited I had the cafe latte which was very good and smooth. This is a great place to get a good amount of fiber. The pastries also have a health kick...such as the whole wheat croissant. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast or lunch. The only reason that I would not give this 5 stars is that healthy ingredients do not always result in tastiness but it is relatively good for the nutritional factor.

Wild Flour is my number one stop when I go to Banff. While living there for a year, I got totally hooked and went there for breakfast on weekends and for an afternoon coffee during the week. I think the tourists have caught on now that instead of going to Second Cup or Starbucks you head off of Banff Avenue and experience a bit of local culture. Or at least the transient local culture -- there is NEVER the same staff at Wild Flour and it is pretty much a guarantee that the cashier will have an Aussie accent! As a Celiac, I love Wild Flour because they always have great gluten-free treats such as Carrot Loaf and Brownies. They also have great bags of cookies to take home with you -- if only they started baking some artisan gluten free bread -- I would be in total heaven. Their espresso is amazing...a single americano doesn't even need milk or cream -- it is just so creamy on its own. And their lattes are incredible. I crave their coffee daily in Calgary -- I really wish there was something like this downtown with glutenfree treats and a bakery. Definitely stop here next time you are in Banff!

I was relieved to find a veg-friendly restaurant in Banff, but I was quite disappointed by the portion size (but then again all food is expensive in Banff). I didn't find the lunch items to be all that impressive.

4 star for the food choices - vegan and gluten free bakery items are hard to come by - were great. Since I can't eat eggs, I'm always on the lookout for quality baked goods. The vegan dark chocolate cake was oh, so delicious - to celebrate a birthday, we shared 4 pieces amongst 10 people and it was perfect. Coffee - all fair trade and organic is also nice to find. Place was crowded for our late afternoon visit and the service staff seemed nice but overwhelmed, and casual about the dirty dishes piled up everywhere, coffee pots and water pitchers empty, etc. A local sort of shrugged and said, "It's always like this..." as if that makes it ok. So I would give the service a 2-3 star rating.
