Pretty cozy cafe; big one-person sofas, lots of window seeing, it's amazing how fast and easy to miss this when driving down Hemlock to DT. Got that typical rustic look decor, it's great to come and relax without the hustlin' and bustlin' of a Starbucks or Blenz coffee.
Recommend the Roast Turkey panini, oven-cooked, comes with red peppers, honey dijon mustard, spinach, all the good stuff. Hard to compare to the Apple Deli which I tried earlier, which really knocked me off my feet, since that was a unique taste and texture.
Also packed those gooey cinnamon buns, that's my mid-afternoon dessert ;) -

Came here for a quick fix to deal with a hunger craving for lunch during wine school, closest thing to walk to, didn't want to walk anymore, I have heard great things, stop, open door, look, order. It is a nice cafe, with the big old communal table in the middle, and people 'chilling' out here with the Macbooks, and laptops sipping brew and eating what is on the menu.
I found that the food items were a tad on the high priced side for what is being offered. I had a coffee and a cheese scone. It did fill me, but it wasn't that satisfying... or as they say 'wicked' for my taste. It was odd too, as I was ordering, in line, and I got my order (which was the same order as the woman who ordered right in front of me) first? I usually like things in order.... so that was quite odd. -

It was mid winter yet absolutely boiling inside! Apparently there is nothing they can do about the temperature. Didn't think it was appropriate to take off my clothes in a public setting, so I had to roll up my sleeves as high as I could.
Love the fact that they have flat whites! (Similar to a strong latte, but easier than saying: "Latte with two shots, no foam and not so much milk, please." A large will set you back $4.20. It was creamy, yet strong. Gooooood. They also have long blacks. Don't know who thought of bringing in the Aussie style drinks, but I'm glad they did.
They also have wraps, quiches, cookies, and other cafe fare. Love the way that the milk foams at the top - you get a beautiful design. Almost don't want to drink it and ruin the pattern! My vegetarian daughter loved her black bean wrap. So much that she still had it in her pocket five days later when we were back in Sacramento. -

Supposedly Wicked Cafe has really good coffee. I don't drink coffee so it doesn't make much sense for me to come here, but it was rainy and my company wanted to tuck away somewhere warm and dry.
I had the ginger rooibos tea and an almond flax cookie which wasn't as great as I was hoping. My friend had ordered a chai latte and the barista kept getting confused with matcha latte. We corrected her a few times and then sat down. There was maybe two other people in the cafe so it was pretty dead in there.
When my friend's drink came out, guess what it was? Surprise! Not Chai! I guess they really really wanted to make a matcha latte... I don't get it. It wasn't that complicated? We didn't bother asking them to fix it- they were overall friendly and nice.. but maybe need to write the orders down in the future... -

Wicked Cafe has become (by virtue of proximity) one of my new regular stops for coffee. It's a nice little place, small and comfy (though the other side of the coin on this issue is that sometimes you won't be able to find a place to sit, even on the tables outside) - but the space is fairly open, so if you normally like a bit of privacy you should perhaps beware what kinds of things you pull up on the Macbook that is probably sitting next to your latte. There's also a much-used bike rack right out front for those pedaling along 7th. Lots of people tend to bring laptops and books and just burrow into a couch with their headphones for a while here - the vibe can be a bit awkward if you're more the talkative type or you're stopping by with a friend. This extends to the staff, who seem to flip quickly between cheery and distant attitudes.
The coffee itself is from Intelligentsia, and it's not bad - quite roasty and full bodied - but I wouldn't call it great. My standby cappuccino occasionally comes out tasting flat or even a little burnt. Nice foam though - and they do a pretty snazzy bit of coffee art on every cup, which is always kind of fun to get.
Baked goods include sweet bars and loaves, sandwiches of various kinds, muffins, biscotti and so forth. Most of it that I've tried has been quite tasty - there's even a surprisingly good low-fat berry muffin option. I'm always keen to get a bite with my coffee and Wicked has me covered on that front.
I'm not head over heels for the Wicked, but they make a decent cup of coffee and I usually go with my girlfriend so it ends up feeling a little more social. It also reminds me a bit of my favourite cafe of all time - the Sleepless Goat in Kingston, ON. If I weren't so close to it, I'd probably search out another place for my caffeine fix, but Wicked does the job. -

So I've been frequenting this place since they opened. Intelly coffee and baked goods.
Until recently.. Where are the good loaves??? Each morning I either have with my latte a waffle or banana bread loaf. There's now no longer any chocolate/ banana Ioaves, but a more expensive dry piece of nasty. What gives????
I hate to say, but my favorite cafe is on the downslide. More changes like they've been doing and *aghast* Starbucks looks good. Not sure they'll be around at all if either intelly or waffles go. -

I like this place overall. It's a total neighbourhood coffee shop with a good vibe and not a lot of pretension. Not a lot... but there is a little. It really depends on who's working but sometimes they're happy and friendly and other times the service is laced with a cold melancholy that I swear I can taste in my cappuccino.
If you manage to get a seat, it's easy to get lost in there for hours and the big communal table in the middle is a sure way to make new friends... or be completely ignored by someone who you are trying to become friends with. Sure it's a risk, but that's the beauty of social interaction.
Also, good food for a coffee shop, if a little over priced. 3 bucks is a lot for a Nanaimo bar and I'd be appalled and refuse to pay such an outlandish price if they were so damned tasty. -

Last time on my walk by, I decided to grab a coffee with my man-friend. Ok it's weird saying man-friend, so I'll just say boyfriend.
He got me a coffee, so I liked that. Because it was on him. But other than that? Meh.
That's right. One big fat resounding MEH.
The Americano was lacking in flavour and tasted almost... stale? I never knew a coffee shop can have stale coffee. Most of the time, I expect stale coffee from places like those diner cafes on the side of the road, where you stop for a shovel to eat and you're back in your truck again, to deliver your load. No, I'm no trucker. But I'd sure like to imagine I'm one.
Anyway, as if the coffee wasn't bad enough, they were using this strong floor cleaner so the whole place smelled like a toilet.
I don't think I'll be tempted to stop along here again. I'd rather go up the street and get a coffee at McDonalds. At least it'll be half the price for twice the amount and the washroom smell won't be permeating the whole place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

"Weak tasting latte"
I had expected better but what I got was a large latte that was weak and too cold for my liking. I like mine hot but not so hot to destroy the natural sweetness of the milk, Seems they must have only put one shot of espresso in my large latte and for $4.50 that can't be right. Tasted more like steamed milk with a hint of coffee. "Sigh" oh well. -

Great place for a Coffee or Latte!
If you can find a seat - it has a good atmosphere - cozy with a good vibe.
They are using intelligentsia coffee - which started in Chicago. Artigiano was using these beans before they started their own (now 49th Parallel)
Latte was smooth and flavourful. They actually have Demerara Sugar in bulk...a BIG plus for those who enjoy a sweetened latte or coffee.
Baked goods looked good and original. Had a "Mars Crispy Bar" - Mars Bar meets Rice Krispy - it was good.
Service can be a little slow during busy times - but it is worth the wait.
Wicked is a nice place to visit.Listed in: Best Lattes in Vancouver!

"No, I don't want to talk to you. I came here with my laptop to sit alone in silence and enjoy my delicious coffee and I'm not going to be social and I'm not moving."
I'm pretty sure that is what every patron of Wicked Café is thinking. But that's fine with me! The staff are nice and make reliably wonderful and artful lattes. I can't help but notice that every time I'm in here or walking by that the café is full of computer-accompanied loners. You can feel comfortable settling in to get some work done -- you won't be the only one glued to your electronic world!
As the weather warms up, the Wicked customers will too -- their wee street-side patio is usually buzzing with caffeine duos, sometimes even *gasp* trios! -

I have been going to this cafe for the past few years, one or two times every month, out of convenience. Before I list some of Wicked's drawbacks, I must state that the owner(s) and baristas take their tea and coffee very seriously. I respect this and am fairly loyal because of this.
However...the crowd always seems to be comprised of curt business people, haughty hipsters and tech geeks. Weird mix. There are also the regulars who simply lounge around because of the free wi-fi. The food is very average: dry muffins, tiny selection of cakes/pies and dry waffles. Why waffles, anyway? One more peeve...they only put out cream and skim milk for their beverages. This is bad for tea drinkers, and I like 3% for my coffee.
This cafe could be so much better, and should be more than simply "convenient". If they obtained some good baking (see Solly's and Grounds of Coffee for some hints, guys) and changed a few little things, it could be outstanding. The icky, loitering regulars really do bother me though...good thing I never hang around to enjoy my beverages. -

This little very neighbourhood coffee shop is just lovely. Loys of groovy chairs to choose from with a nice view of the street. Easy going vibe and super nice guys and girl working behind the counter. Always really helpful and genuine. They do a great deal everyday...9.50 for a massive juicy sandwich or wrap and huge bowl of the daily home made soup. The coffee knocks Startbucks out the park. Free wifi and friendly vibes for my pooch, gets his own water bowl service. Good spot.

Sure, there's a Starbucks (or two... or three) around the corner from my apartment, but I love nothing better on a sunny (or rainy) Sunday morning than to buy a copy of the weekend paper and head just east of South Granville Street to The Wicked Cafe.
Small, cozy, and usually crowded (but in a good way), I try to get there early so i can get a comfy seat by the window (when patrons snag a table, they usually settle in for the long haul, so don't count on loitering around in wait of a space to clear).
Things that keep me coming back to Wicked? The carrot cake (mmm... cream cheese frosting!) and the Big Latte. I heart the Big Latte. Also, if I'm not lucky (or early) enough to get a spot, I just get my order to go and am perfectly content to window shop along South Granville.
PS: Check out the photos I posted of some of the latte art the baristas at Wicked can do for you -- lovely!Listed in: Coffee Crazy

This place can make a mean mocha. Very tasty, rich drink-- a coffee that reminds you what coffee should taste like. My large mocha was $5. Not cheap, but I'm used to good coffee costing that (oh, the pain).
For dessert (because a mocha is more like a main course ; ) ordered the caramel shortbread bar. The bar was super cold and felt like it was thawing out. From tasting it I am guessing that is the case because the shortbread tastes stale. Ew. Cute little place though, good place to read and has a quiet inviting feel (people sitting inside and out-- and it's March). -

I pledge no allegiance to any coffee shop. I've been known to stop at Momento, 49th, and Wicked all in one walk. Wicked is my favourite.
Why??
Black Cat.
Unsurpassed espresso blend. It's just the best. (49th's blend is close 2nd).
But the food is also great, they have a punchcard (for both drinks and whole beans), and the coffee is always prepared as it should be.
I've never had a sour shot pulled for me at Wicked, something I cannot say for 49th Parallel or Momento. -

I thought this was an ok experience. Coffee was above average but not great.
I also can't stand it when barista's have attitudes and act like they are doing you a favor by making you a coffee. That's the feeling I get when I visit this cafe.
Really over rated. -

Very good! Wicked serves up a tasty Intelligentsia roast in a cute cafe with a charming homespun vibe. Visitors have a choice of a bar with tall chairs, cozy armchairs, or a big ol' table.
The most unique thing about Wicked to my mind is the liege waffle. It's $3 and I don't know what's in it, but it's incredible. It goes from being a light, fluffy thing on your fork to some delicious kind of coffee cake thing in your mouth, absolutely sans syrup. I don't know how they do it! I'll probably have a heart attack on the spot if I have another.... tomorrow, for brunch. For instance. Mmm.
Stop in for a cappuccino and take it on a stroll across the Granville bridge! -

I don't drink coffee so maybe coffee drinkers should skip this review. However, I am a tea drinker and I really love my tea!
Their tea selection is pretty good an when there are not a lot of people in the cafe, its a great place to read a book or catch up with a friend.
I used to live 2 blocks from this place and it was always nice to see the diversity in the customers. I was told by friends that their coffee is pretty good and apparently they do cool designs with their lattes so check it out if you're in the neighbourhood. Otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way for this spot. -

How terribly sad! I have loved Wicked's coffee on Hornby. What I got yesterday on 7th, was a bitter, watery thing with no depth or body. So, I made a sad face and asked politely what might have happened. They politely made me another.... of the same. Then asked how it was. I was honest. They added a shot.... I accepted it, but did not enjoy the drink at all. The big guy doesn't like to complain. He spilled his out.
It put me off WIcked. I certainly will not return to this location.
JJ's has never let me down. Maybe I'm just a JJ's girl. -

Good coffee (Intelligentsia! yesss) and cute rockabilly baristas. Decent paninis, and delicious-looking waffles. But the vibe here is a little weird. The place looks cozy and homey, but the patrons are all about business. I worked here for about an hour and it just didn't feel right.
Good place to stop in for a coffee and a snack and be on your way. -

My friend and I went here this afternoon for a quick breakfast when Paul's Place Restaurant and Omelettry (which has great reviews) was full. Wicked Cafe's sign (advertising good coffee, sandwiches and waffles), along with the fact that it was the ONLY cafe in the area, attracted us in.
The staff was unfriendly. When they forgot one of our coffees and I asked about it, they were unapologetic. I paid the extra 2.10 which they had forgotten to charge, no questions. While I was waiting for my coffee, I tried to make a joke about it but the guy behind the counter simply stared coldly and shoved my coffee at me, spilling it on the counter. When I tasted the coffee, it was bitter and stale.
There was a poor selection of foods. My friend got a mediocre nutella and peach sandwich which was tiny and cost over 4 dollars. I got a plain waffle (no fruit or syrup available, and i had to ask for butter) for $3.50 which was served luke warm. Both of these things took at least 10 minutes to come out, even though they were premade and barely even warmed up, and the cafe wasnt even that busy.
All in all, this was probably the worst cafe experience I have ever had, and I have been to a lot of them.
I give them one star because they had cozy seating. -

I have to admit I have no idea why I have been going here for a very long time......because it's definitely NOT for the service. It's god awful. You never what type of mood these baristas are in on any given day. The girls/guys at the cash register aren't too bad. It's a shame they don't really work on getting more of a warm feel in this place. I always take out. And as I mentioned I like the beans/coffee. But after this mornings experience I am not sure I will go back. I got the glare as they were putting out the chairs at 8am upon opening. What a shame. Perhaps the new owners will realize the customer service is lacking greatly.
Good coffee though. -

Needed a place to kill an hour so I fired up yelp and chose this cafe due to it's 4 star rating. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed. The place was busy. Yet that's still no excuse for the staff being rude. I asked if the wifi needed a password and barely recieved a reply. The 2nd time I asked, shre answered me with some annoyance. The chili was ok, but the matcha latte i ordered was more tepid then hot. I'm pretty sure it was foamed with a fork. On the plus side I grabbed a seat outside where i didn't have to listen to blaring music. Maybe i caught the place on a bad day. Sadly first impressions only happen once

One of the few great coffee shops in Vancouver. This cafe is in the same arena as 49th parallel and Elysian Coffee. One day a coffee will be better at Elysian, the other day better at Wicked. Busy cafe so you may have to sit outside. The only negative for me and it may be a positive for others is the amount of people just surfing the web or doing work on their laptops. Drink your coffee and enjoy then move on.

I really like the roasted bean flavour here, and so does alot of others, as the room is always buzzing most mornings. They offer wifi which makes for more custmers to hang around... its a pleasant room with big kitchen table in the middle that everyone sits at, plus theres a few soft couches in the window, the room has a cool family feel to it... The only issue I have is they do not serve long shots (for flavour issues) but after many attempts in getting a misto the way I like it seemed near impossible, the only way was to ordered a triple shot, which makes a much larger and more expenisve drink... So be it then, we agree to disagree... But love that roast bean here and the cozy atmosphere.

Wicked Café is tucked away two blocks south of Broadway in the South Granville area. Although it's less high profile, this café competes quite well with the big fish of Vancouver's coffee scene like 49th Parallel, JJ Bean and Caffé Artigiano.
The espresso is excellent, and the coffee here is from Intelligentsia, one of the best coffee roasters south of the border. The baked goods and desserts are good and escape the standardization of some coffee shops, and I like the cute mini waffles and lemon bars. The ambiance is stylish but laid back, ideal for laptop nomads to take advantage of the WiFi.Listed in: Coffee Coffee Coffee

The best coffee ever. I frequently have work on South Granville and we always get our coffee from Wicked....I've never been disappointed....and the sandwiches are the best as well.....esp the one with figs and brie. Makes my mouth water to just think of it. I'm very particular about my coffee and this places gets my nod.

Wicked Café is the best place in town for a traditional dry, or contemporary wet cappuccino. Their coffee always has a distinct bite to it, but never tastes burnt. While the interior art is kind of lackluster at times, the atmosphere and cleanliness is always good.

I am such a fan of this cute cafe. It is cozy and non-pretencious and only a block away from work. If you are looking for a jolt whether it is the morning or afternoon, Wicked is a place you need to try. The coffee is good and it isn't watered down. Their sandwiches and pastries are also delightful. It's pretty simple... good coffee with a casual feel. You feel comfortable and you enjoy your drink. What more do we want?

If you spend any amount of time around the Broadway/Granville area, you know that there are any number of chain cafés to fulfill your need for caffeine. What you might not know is that Wicked Café is tucked away at Hemlock and 7th, and it offers a nice little antidote to the franchise. The coffee is consistently good, and they have an array of paninis and sweets to choose from as well. I like the paninis a lot, and though I've never had the sweets, they look fresh and tempting. They even have waffles on the menu. This place has a relaxed but funky vibe with art on the walls, a communal style table in the middle, and lots of interesting looking people hanging out doing work, reading the paper, or just watching the world go by. On warm days, you can sit outside and feel happy that you are contributing to local café culture.
