9 reviews for Wickaninnish Inn
All Reviews
This is the best place I have ever (and likely will ever) stay at.
Normally waaaaaaay out of my price range, a dear friend had a credit for a night at the Wickaninnish and opted to take me along. Yes, please!
My first trip to Tofino was blessed by the Wickaninnish. Our second floor deluxe room looked out on crashing waves and contained a gas "fireplace", a library of Long Beach-area books, the most comfortable beds ever, a private balcony, beautiful complimentary robes and also rain jackets, a huge and gorgeous bathroom with a decadent soaker tub, and more. The staff were courteous, helpful and genuine.
But seriously, this place is all about the location. Just look at the photos on their website and know that what you see is exactly what you will get. Breathtaking.
Said amazing friend also decided to give me a belated birthday gift by treating me to dinner at the famed Pointe Restaurant. I am vegan, and after seeing slim-to-none pickings on the menu, she informed them when making the reservation that her friend was vegan and they assured her that this would be no problem at all. I'm sure many vegans and vegetarians can recognize just how excited that made me. My only other high-end crazy fine-dining special-request vegan meal was at the Sooke Harbour House, and as far as swanky resorts on Vancouver Island go, they are in good company.
After drinks and some bread with tapenade in the lounge, we were seated in the circular dining room where each table had an incredible view of the evening's crashing waves along the beach. Without any issues, I was presented with a full vegan meal including an amuse-bouche (a palate cleansing combination of grapefruit, herbs, and a pleasantly astringent dressing), and a small complimentary dessert (a coconut-lime gelee; gelatin-free, of course). My entree was an artistically-plated combination of herb-toasted quinoa with a smoky sauce encompassing the main, roasted asparagus, the freshest peas, garlicky kale, and the best part: richly seasoned local wild mushrooms. It was one of the best meals I've had in my life, experienced in the most gorgeous dining room boasting unforgettable service.
We also enjoyed the Wickaninnish inn's book and DVD library (in the "beach house"). If I am ever actually in the economic bracket of people who can afford to stay at the inn, I'd love to indulge in some of the services offered by the Cedar Lodge Spa, right on the premises.
Thank you, Wickaninnish, for giving me a crazy-amazing experience just after I received my latest student loan statement and contemplated the perils of over-educated unemployment.
Although I would have loved to stay here overnight, we did have the opportunity to have breakfast here.
If you're looking for delicious food with great views, I highly recommend the brunch. It wasn't crowded at all, and we were seated right away.
Then...we waited to get noticed. Which wouldn't be so bad, but due to the emptiness of the restaurant, I was surprised.
Got the peach/apple/strawberry juice to start, along with some coffee. I got the lemon buttermilk waffles, he got the fish and chips (it's brunch, why not?)
The waffles, although not lemony at all, were very delicious. The rhubarb and walnuts were a nice touch. He seemed to enjoy the fish and chips, and I can vouch for the fact that the chips were amazing.
The views are what make this place. It was absolutely POURING outside, but watching the waves was awe-inspiring.
What took out a star was the service. Our waitress, while quite nice, did not have much of a personality, and was kind of slow in taking our order, bringing our food, and closing us out.
I'd recommend this place, however, and strongly suggest a stop here for brunch.
My husband & I love, love, love the wickaninnish!
It has been a while since we have stayed there, (much too long for my liking!), but we have stayed at the wick 3 times in the past and wish to make it four very soon.
Each time we absolutely love it and never tire of anything having to do with the inn or the area. It is located in an amazing area with some of the best views on earth.
It is definitely a special place and one of our all time favorites.
I would recommend booking a room in the original building
on the top floor for the very best views. Just looking at some of the pics people have posted on yelp makes me sad (yet happy at the same time), I want to be there now!
A good time to go is spring or fall when the weather is a bit
inclement....it just adds to the ambiance and romantic feel of the area!
Hope when we go back, it is the same as we remember it!
5 stars all the way. This place blew my socks off, looney toon style. You just need to go there and experience it to understand it.. did someone say honeymoon?
You stay classy, Tofino.
No way in hell could you ever give this less than five stars! The view, good lord, THE VIEW from each room! RIght smack on the ocean, waves crashing almost into your room. All the bells and whistles one would expect from a place of this quality. On top of the view.... the service, the bar and the food all ROCK! I wanna live here.
We've been here 2 out of 5 nights and I can't help it - I have to tell you now this place is 5/5 stars!
I'll start with the service, as it's exceptional. Personal notes left by the people who clean your room, restaurant service that makes you feel like you're a regular when you've only just arrived, spa service that treats you like a star, and front desk staff that always seem to be quietly observant in order to anticipate your every need.
The location here is stunning. STUNNING! Perched right on a rocky shore, we listen to the waves each night from Room 312 (do make sure you get a room on the 3rd floor - better views up here). Eagles fly by with their catch dangling in their talons and surfers can be seen running into the waves to catch a set. Another perk that I appreciated -- you get whiffs of freshly baked bread permeating the salt air on occasion.
The spa is attentive without being overbearing. Do book a couple's massage if you can - you'll enjoy being in the Cedar Sanctuary with the sound of the waves at your footstep. And also be sure to check out the Rainforest Steamroom - it even has a window to the outdoors (not that you can see much through the steam, but it does add ambience).
The food is great in both buildings. This morning we had pastries in the cafe - we're talking chocolate croissants that would make the French jealous, along with other goodies. The Pointe Restaurant also is fantastic.
Perks you'll appreciate at the hotel: free bikes, a Philips Senseo coffee maker with local Caffe Umbria coffee pods (it's that new fangled coffee maker that looks like an espresso machine but actually just brews one cup at a time - seriously good), a two person tub with a picture window looking out to the ocean, a fireplace that lights with the flip of a switch, free wifi, beach access. Well, you get the picture. Everything you expect, want, and more. Yeah, it's remote (hey, we came all the way from SF!), but it's worth it. Stay in Room 312 and you can read the notes from all the others who've stayed here and loved it. Including me.
Once upon a time I use to sit out on the deck and look down the beach to the rocks the Wik now lives on. Now I sit in the Wik looking back down the other way thinking I should have bought that place when it was offered for 250k.
The Wik is all and more than you want, need or expect. The cost of admission is worth the pleasure. I go and am only levered off the premises to have a beer with old friends down at the Blue Heron in town. Everyone owes themselves a 3 day stay at the Wik once in their lives, or as regularly as your bank account allows. Winter is great and much cheaper than the high season and there is much less chance of having fog till noon, take it from someone who lived on this beach for 5 years.
Can I give it 6 stars!!!!!
There is no place more worthy of 5 stars than this.
I had always dreamed of Tofino, and The Wick (as the locals call it) with its spectactular beachfront property, our beautiful suite, and impeccably attentive staff turned my dreams into an unbelievable reality. Every detail has been carefully and tastefully thought out. You will not need to worry about a thing.
Luxurious and sexy, rugged and refined. Designed for great lovemaking. It should almost be guaranteed.
Pamper and treat yourself and your partner - you deserve it. Worth every Canadian penny!
(Also, be sure to try the House-Smoked Arctic Char with Lemon Cream Cheese on a Toasted Bagel for breakfast - we savoured every divine mouthful.)
This is the most amazing resort I have ever been to. First of all it's set in gorgeous Tofino and right on the water. How much better can that get. The staff are very courteous and the rooms were so cozy. There is a spa on site and also a wide variety of amenities. Depending on what time of year you come, you can surf, watch storms, whale watch, hike and more. Definitely worth the trip!
