My five-star reviews have been getting fewer and further between lately, but my recent visit into White's has me digging this flower shop up on 16th Ave.
As part of my walk through the neighbourhood while waiting for my car to have its oil change, I waltzed through the doors of White's just a few doors down. After peaking in the windows, it looked like they may also be a gift shop and I figured having a few things to look at might help pass the time.
As soon as I walked in, the owner came up from the back to say hello. But instead of just seeing if I needed anything and then heading back to work, he took a few minutes to show me around the shop. He opened up his cooler full of fresh flowers and said he'd just finished many bouquets for weddings over the weekend, so he had to get back in there and pretty things up. Then he proceeded to point out the different fresh flowers, and talk about a couple of the arrangements he'd made. This is a man obviously passionate about his trade. What sealed the deal on this conclusion for me? When he was pulling out different kinds of orchids, having me smell each one, and then comparing it to a wine tasting but for flowers.
After chatting with me a bit longer, he excused himself and headed back to cut a few more flowers. Now I had time to explore the shop. There isn't all that much to explore, really. The front is filled with teddy bears of varying sizes and different plant and flower holders. There was a cute little planter made to look like a diner that I considered buying, some ceramic rubber duckies lining one of the walls, and even mini BBQs for sale. How cute would that be as your summer patio centrepiece?
I came out with 5 Gerbera daisies that were so vibrantly lush and red with colour, they're going to look fantastic in my new office. Paired with some greens and little bits of purple buds (can baby's breath be purple? If no, it's like baby's breath), that hint of colour set off the red so beautifully. And I love that the whole bouquet could be mine if the price was right... $20.
