Review from Amanda L.
I crawled into White Spot on a Sunday morning with a hangover and some friends for some much needed greasy food.
The restaurant was pretty quiet but our food and drinks did seem to take quite awhile to show up at our tables.
White Spot has one of my favorite veggie burger patties and they gladly substituted it into the Legendary burger with some cheddar cheese, so so so good! There was about 8 tablespoons of triple o sauce on the burger but oh gawd it was still freakin' fantastic!
The servers were nice but it was a little weird when our first server came over and said if we need anything to ask our new server and that he will be at the bar having a beer because his shift was over... -

I used to come to this WhiteSpot location quite often, since I love WhiteSpot, until my sister found a twist tie in her burger. And the staff said 'we don't use twist ties here' instead of 'sorry about that, your meal is free'. My sister had to insist repeatedly that she found it in her burger and then they begrudgingly let her have her meal free. But still no apology. I mean, c'mon, she could have choked on that! Why is it so hard for people to say sorry these days?
Honestly though, because I do love WhiteSpot, I would probably still go to this location again someday since other than that incident I have always had friendly service here. I know mistakes are often made in food service so I can forgive them for this. I just hope next time there is a mistake that they are nicer about it. Usually the portion sizes are really decent here - they give me lots of fries - so that makes me happy. -

One of my least favourite White Spot, granted it's old and all, and a bit sketchy area at night.
Plus when you enter from either side, there isn't really a visible 'lobby', as with its booths, sometimes it's hard to get noticed by the hostess. And definitely the most cramped in terms of layout.
then again, other than the many Vietnamese, chinese and japanese places, this is a good alternative.
Own parking lot, plus some on Kingsway. -

Best WS in BC. Great service, friendly, experienced staff set this location apart from all the others.

It was a quick birthday brunch with my other family. I arrived a bit late, but nonetheless just in time to order. The Poor waiter was so busy. Three of us had the raviolli and my nephew had a Monte Mushroom Burger (his first time having one). One of White Spots claim to fame next to their Triple O sauce and the Chicken Pot Pies. The Significant Other had the salmon, which was gobbled up quickly. Litteraly! It must've been good.
Birthday chatter, family banter, and I was just so happy to be there. Brunch wasn't cheap, but then again, it was the five of us, all together which is a rarity. It couldn't have been a better place than at White Spot. -

I always regret going to White Spot... not because the food is bad, but because I tend to stuff myself past a bearable level, leaving me to clutch my stomach and wonder why I do this every single time.
Wednesday night... there was a line in their tiny little entrance way. We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, but it was more like only five. It seemed a little understaffed that night. While we got seated faster than we thought, we sat waiting a long time for someone to come and take our drink order. We ordered everything at the same time when our waiter finally showed up. I got a coke and a Chuck Burger with a classic plate. My fiance got a beer and a cajun chucken burger.
My burger was awesome. The Chuck Burger had portobello mushrooms and blue-brie. The blue-brie was cheesy gooey and the thick slabs of meaty mushroom goodness. The burger is huge. The fact that I ordered a classic plate with it is a mistake, there is way too much food. But I feel as though I must ignore every instinct to stop and just keep eating... fries, coleslaw, caesar salad, zoo sticks... There is so much and I did this to myself. -

This was nice. Quiet atmosphere and a freindly server. The meal was a little slow in coming.
For lunch it seemed targeted to business people and groups of older adults. I'm not sure what a good U.S. comparison restaurant is. -

I am a HUGE fan of White Spot....well, scratch that. After last night, I am turned off from this dying franchise.
We all remember White Spot, at least those of us who grew up in BC. We all remember the glory days when they had pirate packs and a family friendly vibe we all grew to love, no matter what age! Sadly, times have changed. Not for the better, but for worse.
White Spot, as of 4th quarter 2009, have decided to change their direction and image to attract to customers who enjoy dining at chains like Earls, Moxies, Joey's etc. Unfortunately for White Spot, the strategy fails. White Spot is Nostalgic to most BC people. The easy going atmosphere, affordable priced, pirate packed food was delicious! Now they have replaced these features with "Yam Fries" and "sliders" and the like. To sum it all up, these guys are following a Fad thats fizzling and trying to keep up with dying trends. Earls is over done! White Spot USED to be unique.
Ok Im done my rant. On to my review of this specific location.
First of all, I love when a restaurant is filled on a Friday night (HATE the lineup tho). The vibe of a full restaurant is captivating and really brings out a good mood in folks. Also, the Aura of restaurant should be set to be perfect. At the Kingsway Location, I walked into a Light filled, empty restaurant. Who wants to dine with bright lights in their face. That's how we dine at home. A restaurant needs to dim the lights for dinner. Thats an industry standard. Not here tho, nope. The lights were bright. I definitely didn't feel the dining out vibe. Call me picky, but this is how everyone is, and this is WHY things are the way they are. Im just pointing out the lack of professionalism from this location.
Ok, So Ive covered the lack of restaurant-y feel in the White Spot. Now to the food. We ordered the Yam Fries and Chicken Dippins(?) to share. I was pretty much ready to leave after I ordered my drink. When the food came, It was fast! Which was good. But that was quickly forgotten after having some of the food. The chicken, over cooked. The yam fries, unseasoned, undercooked, and the may dip they made was not exactly the best either.
Overall, this place is just a dive. IGo to another location to be more satisfied. This place is a disgrace to White Spot. -

I'm just upping my review count.
I love White Spot. Always have, always will. Started my career with the Pirate Paks, now I'm a grown woman with child I eat grown up food: vegie burger without the sauce it comes with, but Triple O sauce instead, and add on sweet tater fries.
A slice of some cake or another for dessert.
Thank you, that's all I want to say. I love Triple O sauce. I know it's made out of lard and fat and disgusting processed recycled grease but it tastes delicious and makes me feel like right at home when I order it.
I hope to one day pass on this White Spot tradition to my children. -

I'm born & raised in Vancouver and have been coming to White Spot since I remember. In my "kid" days, we'd sit in the car & have trays delivered out to our car. My mom always ordered "Chicken Pickens", while we all got "Pirate Packs"...a fond memory!
I started taking my kid (he's 18 now) when he was about 6, every payday to this particular WhiteSpot....carrying on the tradition, but in the restaurant...the last I heard is that they only do car service at on Lougheed Hwy now...don't know if they still do though...he never ate the burgers, loved the mac & cheese, and I eventually got bored with the menu...YAWN! But, we still go...
Burgers are what we go for now! We always get a craving for THE "White Spot Burger" that makes us go! OK, it's the triple-O that makes us go...well, I have to admit, the burgers, food, value, etc. is not as good as the old days...but it's still a local fave for me! I'm loyal!
Does anyone remember the cauliflower/cheese soup??? That was YUMMY! -

Can I just say I love this place! Unfortunately there is no White Spot in the States. So, everytime I'm in Vancouver I ALWAYS come here. Get the Legendary Buger. It's amazing. If blueberry pie is in season and they still serve it here, get that too! My grandparents used to come here when they first got married in the early 50s when the waitresses used to serve you in your car! So it's a tradition in my family...well the family from B.C.
Only one downside: If you're not a child and you want the Pirate Pack. Don't bother. It's not as big as it used to be...so just stick to getting an "adult: meal. -
