I feel pretty lucky that this place is right down the street from our house because it is definitely one of the best fishmongers in the city. The Wheelhouse specialize in local, fresh seafood and ethical meats (and now cheeses and free range eggs). Trevor and Catherine, who own the place, are more than happy to discuss where each item came from and have lots of recipe and cooking suggestions if you are at all confused when it comes to what to serve for a simple dinner or a larger dinner party.
Whether fresh or frozen, the seafood at the Wheelhouse is of the highest quality and you will never be disappointed with them. The local meats they carry are likewise better than anything you will find elsewhere in the neighbourhood. -

My wife and I were very pleased to find the Wheelhosue Seafoods in our neighbourhood. This husband-and-wife spot sells fresh seafood and organic game.
Recently we decided to do a Dungeness Crab party and Catherine at Wheelhouse was very helpful. She helped us decided how much crab we would need, and her husband gave me detailed cooking instructions. They ordered the crab in fresh (so it wasn't like those crabs sitting in tanks in Chinese food restaurants).
In addition to fresh food there are some pre-prepared dishes and sides (like sauces).
Prices are competitive but not below market.
Viva los crabs!
We would highly -

Totally shocked and happily surprised that there is a fresh seafood shop in my area. I came on a bad day for picking (selection dependent on availability) but it is winter. I ended up buying some cheese, since they have a pretty good selection from The Farm House in Agassiz.
I will certainly go back when I have a good recipe in mind, or when I get an oyster craving. -

These guys make the best crab cakes you'll ever eat - all crab, no filler! They're best fresh, but cook well from frozen also.
The couple who run this store are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about seafood.
