What do women want? Everything in this store!
What Women Want is a great accessory store found in a little strip mall on 111 Street. The owner of the store, Jim, opened the door for me as I walked up to it (not a common occurrence in today's society). Walking in, I was greeted with smiles and jokes from both Jim and the lady working (I don't remember her name, sorry).
The lady working gave me a bit of a tour of the store, giving me some interesting details about some of their products.
The wall of purses was great. What women doesn't want a wall of purses? I know I do (and I'm well on my way).
The jewelry in this store is beautiful. They use Canadian diamonds which I thought was really great.
Jim's daughter also designs a line of jewelry for the store called Purely Pearls. Her stuff is gorgeous and unique. If you like pearls, you should love her line.
They had a lot of cute little travel items. I love traveling so they stood out for me. Little straps to customize your luggage, travel gadgets, they had some pretty cool stuff.
They also had sandals, hats, and jewelry hangers (for necklaces and earrings).
One thing that was pretty neat was a line of bracelets that double as purse hangers! You take it off at a restaurant, or wherever, and you fit it onto the edge of a table to hang your purse so it doesn't get dirty or kicked around! And, it can hold up to 100lbs! I hope my purse never gets that heavy, but it's on it's way!
What Women Want is a great little accessory store. I'm a fan! -
Review from Lauren N.
This store reminds me of a book I once read by Elizabeth Berg, "The Year of Pleasures", I think. The main character opens up a boutique by the same name, What Women Want, only her sign gets mixed up and it reads "What Want Women", and everyone thinks it's a dating ad agency. Still got the women into the store though!
But I guess this isn't a book review (five stars though!). What Women Want is obviously dedicated solely towards women and our irritating yet impalpable need to have beautiful things in our lives. So of course, there is jewelry. Gorgeous, shiny, and sparkly jewelry to bedazzle any woman of any age. They have gems, pearls, and -- gasp! -- even diamonds. Diamond rings, no less. Who says you have to wait around for a guy to give you a ring?
And what else does a woman want, according to this shop? Bags, shoes, journals and stationary, and pampering products like soaps and pedicure kits. They're right, of course, I'm not arguing with that. It better take this much to keep us happy, cause there wouldn't be much of a world without women, would there?
The store also has a full line of travel luggage and accessories in bright colours, again, all for women. There's a travel kit and bag for pretty much anything you bring with you on a trip. This section is at the front of the store, and I'd say it's about a good half of the shop too. It seems a bit overkill to me, like there has to be a product for everything nowadays, even if there's no real need. Then again, I think that's the underlying point of this entire shop anyways, so whatever. Every woman deserves to have beauty in her life, and that's enough grounds to come here. -

Unfortunately, What Women Want is closing because the owner is retiring. When I walked in, the store was virtually empty, and almost everything was sold out. Whatever little was left was on sale (even shelves). Only small percentage of what used to be in the store was left. There were funky looking purses by LUG, pearl necklaces, sandals and jewelry (silver, gold plated and diamond). Everything was priced beyond cheap, since everything in the store had to go. I was able to buy cute gold plated earrings for $5, and the owner didn't even charge GST. It's a shame that What Women Want will be closed soon. The inventory used to be unique, and all things were reasonably priced.

A very smartly named store, owned by a man with impeccable taste in women's jewelry and accessories. What Women Want is a local shop that stocks a lot of Canadian products, including Purely Pearls, a company owned by his daughter who buys freshwater and cultured pearls in Dubai and has them made into exquisite modern jewelry. The price of her pearls are reasonable, making these precious jewels of nature an affordable gift for oneself or a special woman in your life. (Note to self: leave a copy of this review in boyfriend's sock drawer near Christmas). The owner was very friendly and excited to talk about the product lines he carries. Kameleon is a line of jewelry similar in concept to Italian charm bracelets. You buy different "JewelPops" to press into bracelets, rings, earrings, pendants and pins, so you can change them depending on your mood. They're producted by a company out of Halifax (http://www.lotusjewel.com). The jewelry itself is sterling silver and very smart looking. At WWW you can also buy fashion flip-flops with snap-on changeable Flexi-tops. (http://www.lexees.com). So if you want to check out a bunch of unique products you haven't seen before, this guy knows what women want!
