I can say without hesitation, and as someone with experience trying & dismissing multiple Manhattan eye doctors, that Dr. K is the best there is in the city.
I haven't run in to many folks with worse eyes than I do (-8.5 in the left eye, -6.5 in the right). I have been largely unhappy with my eyecare service in Manhattan, after trying several chains and a few other offices. I will be coming back here for many years to go, and will be bringing my future family here as well. Dr. K knows his stuff, and specializes in making sure that you have the right contact brand to fit your eye.
I didn't purchases glasses so I don't have any anecdotal experience there, but as far as eye exams, contact trials, and brand recommendations, Dr. K is the best. -

I called yesterday for an eye exam and was told there was an opening available during lunch. I decided to reserve the time and provided my social security number in order to authorize my vision insurance.
I got to Westside Vision Associates about 5-10 minutes before my exam. I filled out a quick one-page application and in a moment's time, Dr. Eric Koperwas called me into the back. I was nervous because I couldn't even recall the last time I had an eye exam, easily over 10 years ago. Dr. K was very friendly and patient with me since I can't stand anything going near my eyes. He referred to me as "the perfect candidate that can't wear contacts" in a humorous way, and made sure I was at ease. He performed the typical paddle test and asked me to read letters on a screen, then put my eyes on a machine and asked me to read the letters again all while changing the lens strength multiple times. Thereafter, he put a drop of liquid in each eye and did a blue light pressure test on each eye and I was on my way. I was surprised to be in and out within 15-20 minutes.
Although my visit did not require any glasses or further service, I was very happy with my visit and will return again for any vision needs I might require as I get older. -

I needed to get my contact prescription renewed and see if my glasses needed new lenses. I was not happy with my last optometrist so after reading the Yelp reviews I made an appt here and I'm really glad that I did. They got me a lunchtime appt very quickly and Dr. Eric Koperwas is great. He has a good manner and listened to my concerns as I am slowly sliding into needing bifocals. The exam was quick and painless and he gave me trial lenses to take home. And even though I have not replaced my eye glass lenses in many years, he said they were fine to keep using (no push to sell me new frames, etc).
They had preauthorized my insurance prior to my appt so I walked in knowing what and how much was covered. I picked out frames for prescription sunglasses and was told contacts and sunglasses would be ready in a day or two. I'm referring my husband and co-workers here. -

I give the doctor one star for being a competent doctor, but he does not know how to run an honorable business.
The customer service was terrible. I was supposed to get a discount on frames with my insurance but the doctor told me that they would not honor that because all of their frames are already discounted. I checked with the insurance and they said that's absolutely not right, that he has to give the insurance discount to whatever price he is selling them for. And by the way, the frames he was selling were absolutely NOT discounted already. When I calmly discussed this with the doctor he actually raised his voice at me, was irate, and very rude. This place is overpriced in every way, and ripping you off no matter what. Even with the price of the exams.
Side note: Since then, I went to Cohen's who actually matched the internet price of the same frames that I wanted. So Westside was charging $280 and not honoring the rules of my health insurance, and Cohen's got them for me at $158. -

I've been coming here for many, many years and have always received outstanding service. Dr. K is extremely thorough, kind, and knowledgeable. He has never steered me wrong on contact lenses or regular glasses. And the shop has a decent selection of frames at fair prices.

This was my first eye appt ever, Dr. K was very nice, thorough, and took the time to listen to my self diagnosis before telling me what was really going on. The staff was very helpful and kind and even Dr K weighed in on the glasses I was trying on! Overall a very positive experience!

I've had four eyes for over fifteen years, and Westside Vision Associates is the best eye doctor experience that I've ever had. I received excellent service from the minute I called to make my appointment [and reschedule said appointment two times] all the way to the minute I walked out the door with my sexy new specs.
Dr. K tells you everything that he's doing AS he's doing it. As a doctor-visit-hater, I really appreciate this. I've never had an eye doctor that was as communicative as Dr. K. This man should facilitate trainings to optomawhatevers on how to provide top-notch bedside manner. He's that good.
After my very thorough eye exam, Dr. K. asked me some questions about what I was looking for in my new glasses, and then hand-picked four pairs that met my criteria. Me, being the jackass that I am, was like "pffft I'm gonna walk around and look at all of these other glasses because there's no way that anyone could know what I want based on just asking me a few questions". Do yourself a favor [and also save yourself about a half hour] and TRUST THIS MAN. I ended up choosing the first pair that he picked out for me. Of course. I've never in my life had an eye doctor take the time to help me pick out my glasses. And, when he had to leave the sales floor to conduct an exam on another patient, the other staff member who worked the lobby was extremely helpful and friendly.
I've already referred three of my coworkers to Dr. K at WVA, and will continue doing so. There are very few medical providers on Yelp that have a perfect rating, and this guy is one of 'em.Listed in: Love your body

A+ for customer service. My insurance is beyond complicated, but Westside was totally great about making calls and really digging up how they can best help me. I was originally going to have my exam and get my glasses here, but it turned out that my insurance wouldn't cover the exam at this location. Westside was beyond understanding about the situation, which encouraged me to come back to buy the actual pair after an exam somewhere else.
The selection is good and the sales rep is great about figuring out your style, handing you what he thinks fits best, and knowing what frames will suit your prescription best. I also had some odd requests tossed in (preferred snap on sunglasses) and he found me the perfect pair for my petite face.
The doctor also came down and made sure to review my prescription and made sure it suited me. The sales rep and the doctor also worked with me to determine what was the most affordable using my insurance and what extra add ons were really necessary or not.
I went back 5 days later to pick up (great turnaround considering they had to order the sunglasses separately) and the glasses were fit expertly. Totally recommended!Listed in: Doctor Knows Best

I keep stealing all my roommate's doctors... and will continue to do so as long as they are fantastic as Westside Vision. The location is right off of the 28th street subway stop, which is great when you want to pop over during the your lunch break. I didn't have to wait at all to get in, and my exam was the least stressful I've ever had. When it was time to pick out my glasses they spent a lot of time with me (mostly because I couldn't decide between 3 pairs that looked almost exactly alike but priced differently) giving me feedback and even seemed to be having fun.
I am looking forward to my next exam and picking out a new pair of glasses! -

Theres's a reason why 100% of the reviews are 5 stars. This place is great. I had hastily booked an appointment at Union Square Optical because of the convenience of the location. But after I read the overwhelmingly negative reviews, I cancelled my appt. and booked at Westside.
Polite, friendly employees, and a great selection of frames (though I ordered mine since the pair I had previously seen elsewhere wasn't in stock, so they ordered them for me AND at a better price). Dr. K was extremely nice, and was very thorough in his exam and explanation of my prescription. There's no pressure on up-charges either. Dr. K recommended the anti-glare coating (which I wanted anyway) and that was that. I'm so glad I decided to go here. -

Decided to give this place a try after reading all the positive reviews. I'd like to thank everyone who posted a reveiw because you are all correct.
Dr. K is awesome. He performed my eye exam and helped me pick out a pair of glasses. Very honest. Gave his opinion on what frames would match my facial structure. He wasn't trying to pitch the most expensive frames to make an extra buck.
This place has an extensive selection of glasses. After picking the pair I liked, he told me that they'll call me when it's ready. They called the next day!
I would definately recommend this place to everyone. I do not have a doubt that I will be coming back here for all my future eye needs. -

Highly recommend them, they take time to find the glasses that fit and look good, they genuinely are interested in helping you. Their prices are reasonable, even though they don't have insurance. Not that it matters but the office decor is cool which made the whole visit a pleasant experience. The doctor was fun to work with.

I've been going to Dr. K for dare I say, almost 15/19 years?!?!?!? He hasn't changed a bit, except for some gray hairs and that's on both are parts. He's always friendly, informative and knows the exact style that fits you and he's personally picked out a few of my specs and a few times so has the staff. I've never been disappointed and neither will you.

Very friendly and knowledgeable - great doctor. He is very helpful and actually sounds like he cares about your eye health. Doesn't look like much when you walk in but he has a huge selection if you want a stylish pair or if you opt for the $5 frames they are good too!

Don't you love when your friend suggests a place to you and it actually is great? I guess on a whole i need better friends - but i found a new one in Eric (Dr. K).
Objectively speaking, i had been going to the mall in recent years out of "ease" of just going in, getting a pair of glasses/contacts and walking out. The problem is they rushed me every time and are pushy with the higher priced stuff. It feels like getting a cell phone - pushing the most expensive items/accessories even if you don't need them.
So asking around - i got sent here. Dr Koperwas helped me see and look good but more importantly feel confident in the way i left his office. I feel corny saying this - but its true. -

All of the great reviews on here are correct. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and reliable. Dr. K walked me through the eye exam and let me try out a couple different contact lenses before I found the right fit. He was super quick, but didn't rush me. You'll have a great experience here.

I came across Westside Vision Associates because I was trying to find an optometrist that 1) had good reviews on Yelp, 2) is on the west side, and 3) that takes my insurance (VSP). This was a surprisingly hard task! Regardless, I am thrilled that Dr. K and the staff fit the bill - my experience getting a new pair of glasses with them was just fantastic.
Upon arriving the staff was very welcoming and had me fill out the usual paperwork. While I was waiting for Dr. K to finish up his previous appointment, I started looking at frames with the salesperson, who was extremely helpful. It had been five years since my last pair, so I really didn't know what I was looking for, but the salesperson was really able to zero in on my face shape and recommend frames based on what would complement my features. My exam with Dr. K was a similarly awesome experience. I was dreading having my eyes dilated, but after talking through my optical history and discussing any vision problems I was having, he determined that it really wasn't necessary to dilate my eyes. He also spent time talking to me about my prescription - he said I fell in the middle between two prescriptions, one that was the same as my old prescription and one slightly stronger. In the end we decided to go with the same prescription I had before, since I wasn't really having any vision issues. Every optometrist/ophthalmologist I've ever been to has always insisted on giving me the stronger prescription, which would inevitably lead to several weeks of headaches as my eyes adjusted.
Anyway, I could go on and on about this, but's let's just leave it with this:
1) Affordable prices (even without insurance the prices were good)
2) Caring, attentive, perceptive staff AND optometrist
3) Great selection of frames
4) Speedy turnaround and exceptional service from start to finish -

Best eye doctor in the city! I have been going to Dr. Koperwas for 10 years, ever since I moved to the city. I found him in the Yellow Pages and, when I walked in, he asked how I heard about him. He was genuinely surprised that I randomly found him as most of his clients came from referrals. I understand.
Dr. Koperwas is very patient and knowledgeable. He truly cares about doing what's best for his patients, rather than trying to make a quick buck. It is easy to get an appointment, and the office staff are great too.
I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to write this review! -

I have been going to Macys Vision Center at Herald Square location for years...and I finally had enough of the attitudes! Of course I turned to yelp for help and I found Westside Vision Associates. I scheduled an appointment with the very patient and nice woman who answered the phone. She didn't ask me a million questions about my insurance because unlike macys, they only need your insurance information and they do all the research before you arrive. She told me what my copay and policys for eye exams for my insurance. Made my life easy. The doctor came down to see me right away and he was very sweet. He helped me pick out a pair of contacts which I am trying out now and I plan to return in a few weeks to put in a order. So do yourself a favor if your a person with very little time and prefers a pleasant experience when visiting a doctors office...make an appointment with Westside Vision Associates.

Lived up to and actually exceeded all the great reviews. The doctor was amazing - personable and knowledgeable, and took his time to make sure everything fit well and was as good as it could be. When I needed a quick follow-up appointment, I expected to be charged a fee, but there was none. Great service, would totally recommend!

Dr. Koperwas was fantastic.
Last summer I realized I was on my last pair of contacts before a trip to South America. I called up Dr. K's office in a sub-panic and he was able to see me, order the lenses and have me back to check out how they fit in a number of days.
His staff is wonderful as well, and without them I never would have been able to get everything in time.

I cannot tell you how much I love this place. After 16 years of wearing glasses, this has been my best experience. They were super helpful, accepted my insurance, talked me out of spending money on a particular lens coating they said I didn't really need, and were cheerful while doing it. The Dr. is friendly, patient, and willing to answer all your questions. I was a walk in and they were able to see me within an hour. I will go back here again and my husband is delighted that I've found a place that he can go to, also. I cannot stress enough how great they were!

I love Dr. K! I have been going to him for over 6 years, since I first moved to NY and my former boss gave me the recommendation. He has helped me with contacts, multiple pairs of glasses, and finally the process of Lasik surgery. I still go back for checkups and they are easy, painless and quick. He is a great doc and a genuinely cool guy- highly recommended.

After moving to NY striking out at my previous 2 eye doctor choices, on a friends recommendation I went to Westside. I am very glad I did. They have a great selection of glasses. The doctor is very thorough and very friendly. They are in a nice clean new location, and I had a great experience all three times I have gone. Highly recommended.

They make it pretty easy. Flexible with making an appointment and getting me in and out on time. Great selection of specs and very helpful. New place is a great spot for me, even though i moved I still manage to get an appointment in when i come back home for a bit.

It took a year, but Dr. K worked with me to find the pair of contacts that were right for me. He was patient, gave me numerous pairs to try, and never expressed any annoyance in my super sensitive eyes. I've recommended this place to numerous people and I'll go as long as I'm in the city.

Every time my wife and I walk into Westside Vision, we are greeted with cheers from everyone there. For the better part of a decade they have been providing my wife with top-notch eyewear and service and for the last three they have been taking care of me as well. Dr. K is quick with a joke but also is passionate about eye-care and it shows. The process of picking out frames has become an annual game where everyone, even other customers, gets involved. We look forward to it like it's Christmas. I wouldn't trust these eyes to anyone else.
