I've been taking my dogs here for a half dozen years and couldn't be happier with either Dr. Golbeck or the staff. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful and the location can't be beat. They take great care of your pets and sell some very high quality food at great prices. Their hours are slightly limited though they have improved in the past few months and their website is downright awful (I can't subtract too many points from a Vet clinic for that). It's a small clinic so wait times can be a bit longer than in larger settings but the level of service and familiarity that you get can't be beat.

I brought my cat here because I had moved into the area and it was closer then my previous vet. Well after my experience let's just say I will NEVER go back.

To be fair their staff there was friendly and helpful :)

It's the actual vet that I have a problem with. He seemed nice and caring in the exam. He examined my cat and told me that he found a heart murmur and rotten teeth. That he was probably sick because of his teeth and that I should just expect for my cat to drop dead of a heart attack one day. And that because of his heart murmur he couldn't do surgery on my cat, so all he could do was give him an antibiotic shot once a month to get rid of the infection in his mouth.

At the time my cat had what is called chin acne all over his chin (yes cats can get zits! who knew) as well his ears were full of brown build up and he was scratching his ears and cutting them. As well he was losing weight.

At first I thought, well this is so sad I can't believe my cat is so sick and all I can do is give him a shot until he dies.

But he got worse, his ears become so full of brown crap and it got all hard and crusty and he was screaming in pain. I had to keep popping his zits, not an easy thing! So I panicked and took him to my old vet desperate for answers and a cure.

And what do I find out: That the vet at westmount completely diagnosed my cat wrong! My cat had Kidney Disease and could have dies if he didn't start receiving the proper treatment. His ear and chin acne problem were caused by an allergy (to what we still don't know) but it was easily cured by using steroid cream in his ears. And yes he did have an minor infection in his teeth (as he is 18 years old) but that was dealt with by 1 shot of antibiotics.

All in all my cat went through immense pain and suffering for no reason at all! Had I taken him to my other vet in the beginning he would have been fine. Oh and did I mention it cost me $300 for my cat to be diagnosed wrong!

After that experience I talked to a friend of mine who lived in the area and she told me her cat also almost died from a toxic shock of some sort from being diagnosed wrong too, she caught it just in time when she took her cat to another vet too! (I know your not suppose to post second hand experiences so I will ask her to post her own review on her experiences)

So long story shortened: I DON'T TRUST THIS VET! My cats lives are to important.

Shortly after I moved to Calgary, I inherited a small feline companion for a short-term stay that lasted a bit longer.  Westmount Animal Clinic was the closest veterinarian to my apartment, which summarizes my only reason for going there.

My first few visits to the clinic were to purchase food.  My mom has been feeding her cats Medi-Cal food since they were kittens.  15 years later and those cats are still healthy as ever.

Medi-Cal food is expensive when compared to the food you'll find at a local grocery store.  It's also only available at veterinarians.  And between different veterinarians, you will find significant price differences.  I have found places selling a medium sized bag for $30, others selling it for $25, and some selling it for as high as $40.  Westmount is usually somewhere in the middle.  Not the cheapest, but definitely not the most expensive.

Thankfully, I only had to bring along my companion for a visit once.  She had developed some issues with her stomach.  I'll never understand how, but it seems veterinarians have a magical effect on animals (or they are just so terrified they will do anything).  Westmount is no exception, and my usually sketchy cat was like a kitten in their hands.  It was a quick procedure, but a great experience for both of us.
