I went to the Westboro beach at night a few times to hang out somewhere quiet with some friends in the summer. I love to be by the water at night and especially somewhere as peaceful as the beach.
There aren't many people there at night, but there were a few groups of teenagers. Of course the washrooms and canteen aren't open at this hour, but it is a nice place to come and relax after dinner if you live nearby.
I wouldn't recommend swimming here at night, since the visibility is poor and the water conditions might not be available at that time. -

If Yelp had a category for "Sunset Viewing" I'd slide this beach into that category.
It's another one of those great spots in Ottawa to watch the sun drop on a warm summer evening. Located just off the Ottawa River Parkway on the shores of the Ottawa, Westboro Beach is decent spot to waste away an afternoon.
As with most Ottawa beaches I'd recommend the sand but the swimming options. Do check the conditions or quality before you put even your toes in the water as the Ottawa River has had significant pollution issues over the last few years.
The hill situated between the beach and the parkway is nice for watching the sunset or just laying out across on an afternoon to get some sun. You should be able to find parking as there is a lot off the parkway but you're probably wise to take OC Transpo as the beach is just a block or two north of the main transitway (get off at Dominion Station and walk north). -

Westboro Beach is a pretty strip of Ottawa shoreline that's not too far from downtown. Even if you don't wish to dip your feet in the Ottawa River (especially after a rainstorm) this is still an excellent place to relax and enjoy your surroundings. There are plenty of nearby trees if you wish to keep out of the sun and walking trails if you feel like taking a walk to see all the Canadian geese and ducks that flock to this area.
There's also a canteen, change rooms and a washroom, for those wanting the basic amenities.
