The West End Gallery is at the higher end of Edmonton's gallery district. You'll find sculptures, contemporary glass art, and paintings of Canadian landscape here, all for very big numbers. While art is usually expensive anyway, I find pieces in this gallery tend to cost a bit more.

They currently are featuring some amazingly beautiful work however, by artists Rod Charlesworth and Bev Rodin. Both artists paint Canadian landscapes with oil on canvas, but Charlesworth has a more abstract quality while Rodin focuses on light. If I had money for art right now, I would have sprung for a Rodin painting.

The gallery is spacious, with no furniture to get in the way. Soft classical music plays on hidden speakers as one walks through the space. They have a room further in back where the glass art is kept, featuring blown, sand-blasted, and foiled glass. Some are small decor items, others are magnificent centrepieces. I couldn't help thinking as I walked through the gallery, this must be where rich people go to buy gifts for each other!

Knowledgable, reputable, and full of Canadian artists, West End Gallery is part of the downtown's gallery district and the twice-yearly Art Walks through the area. It's quite large and features paintings, sculpture, and other mediums. It's rather high-end, but the selection is incredible and worth stopping in to take a look at even if your budget cannot handle this kind of thing at the moment.

History

Established in 1975

Originally located on 95th and 156 Street in the west end of Edmonton, the gallery moved to their current location in 1980.  In 1982, Daniel and Lana became one of the founding members of the Gallery Walk Association.  They have continually provided an exceptional selection of the best that Canadian painters, sculptors and glass artists have to offer.  The West End Gallery in Victoria, B.C. was established in 1994 and is recognized as the city's most vibrant gallery.  In recent years, Daniel and Lana's son Matthew joined the gallery, truly making it a family business.  Art collectors will find works of lasting value and receive the very best in professional service.   Alberta high realism painters Glen Semple, Len Gibbs, and W.H. Webb have waiting lists to supply, and internationally acclaimed artist Claude A. Simard is featured by both galleries.  With representation of over 40 painters and 65 glass artists, West End Gallery offers a wide selection of all styles and aesthetics
