I cannot believe that I live so close to this place and yet today was the first day I stopped in. It oozes with great finds for your home. Stepping into West Elm, I can see myself checking off so many people on my Christmas shopping list in one stop. Whether its unique yet function able measuring set for my sister or a tea towel with a beautiful design on it for my aunt.. perhaps a set of blocks for my nephew or a Christmas tree decoration for the inlaws. There is honestly something for everyone here.
I love that it not only has unique items, it carries the basics. Beautiful throws in multiple colours and your basic white dish set.
One thing I always associated with West Elm was $$$. But I found the prices to be quite reasonable for the quality you get with them.
I will definitely be hitting up this store more as the holiday season creeps up on us. -

What a waste! This store carries some designers' look stuff though quality is only average. The customer service is equal to nothing...terrible! I bet because there is the worst store manager there.
I bought a hardwood dining table but it started to have all the big cracks around the edge of the table top the next day after delivered to my place. Waited till now since it has been bought in November 2011 for an exchange. It is now in January 2012, I heard that few weeks ago this table has been restocked. I called the store and was told the manager would call me back. It's been at least more than two weeks now and I hear from no one. The store manager's attitude was not as helpful nor caring at the time since arranging the delivery! Just want to mention, they charged me $120 for delivering a table within GTA!!!!!!! The most expensive delivery charge I have ever paid in Toronto @_@
I will update if I finally get a chance to have someone from this store following up my case. I just feel like being totally ignored. Don't expect after sales service at this place!
I doubt if I will ever again buy anything from there! -

I HATE that West Elm will not honour their online prices and sales in their only Canadian store - worse still is that they will not ship to Toronto because of said store.
This is a bad customer service policy that only shows disdain for West Elm's Canadian customers... not cool. -

I love this store - just wish it wasn't this crowded all the time. West Elm has been a favorite since my New York days and I am glad it's found a home in Toronto. It caters to young urban crowd and has some great pieces made from recycled wood. They source the bedding linens from across the world and like Tara mentioned in her review - there really is something for everyone on your list.
And the best part is the price - they are quite reasonable. -

West Elm is the Gap of mid-priced US furniture store. Think a cheaper Crate & Barrel, but with a younger feel.
Their stuff is nice, very trendy and pretty good quality. I always find something that I want, and have purchased a ton of gifts for friends here.
Good for condo owners (lots of compact furniture) and people looking for of the moment home decor.
I do find it a bit too trendy for my taste. -

I stopped in here, while waiting for a table at Mildred's across the walkway, and was pleasantly surprised. The decor here is really fresh and fun. They have some really nice accessories. I totally scored an unexpected find. I picked up a dark wood vanity, which the bf would approve of (not the girly mirrored style I had my eye on). It was on sale, so I felt good about my purchase, and easy to assemble as well.
It's also a step up on Ikea and totally fits in with the neighbourhood. I'll be back! -

Love this place!
Great for beautiful, and stylish pillows for you couch in all different sizes.
Also awesome for picture frames in larger sizes for 8 x10 photos or even bigger. The frames come in white, brown, and black, and start at $29.99.
They have some really cool furniture, and other stuff for the home in there and it is laid out in a manner that makes you want to peruse the store.
I don't like their selection of drinking glasses however. I prefer Crate and Barrel's sturdy and stylish glasses. -

I always liked West Elm when I was living in the U.S. and very excited to hear that West Elm (along with Crate & Barrel, etc.) opened a location in T.O.
They offer nice contemporary furniture and accessories, and current trends (whether you like it or not), at reasonable prices. I would think of West Elm as a step up from IKEA (similar to EQ3 and Structube).
Unfortunately I have found the stuff at West Elm is not as affordable as in the U.S. -- probably due to our taxes and duties.
I must admit that their larger pieces of furniture are not of the best quality (particle board or MDF construction), so I would only stick to their smaller pieces of furniture (chairs and side/coffee tables) or their great selection of accessories (lighting, mirrors, linens, kitchen wares, etc.).
Like what another reviewer mentioned, it's pretty funny to see the hoardes of yuppies shopping there armed with their Starbucks latté in hand.
For more substantial pieces of furniture I would stick to Crate & Barrel or StyleGarage.Listed in: Home furnishings (Best &…

Personally, I'm surprised that anyone is comparing this place to Ikea. Wtf? I went today for the first time and was expecting cheap Ikea shit with higher prices (based on other reviews).
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Very cool furniture and home decor knick knacks. Definitely more upscale quality-wise than Ikea, but still very budget friendly. I had gift certificates to redeem and a managed to snag the following for $170.00 : salad bowls, cereal bowls, a kitshy salt & pepper shaker set, some serving bowls, 1 very large picture frame, 2 smaller ones, 2 side cushions for my couch and a couple other small decor items.
The only thing that didn't impress me was their staff - they had a LOT of staff at hand, but 8-10 people seemed to be pissing around behind the cash and none were actually placed throughout the shop. We spent a good ten minutes rooting around boxes looking for a particular picture frame without being offered any assistance from staff, despite the store being very non-busy.
I'll be back to buy more stuff for shizzzzzzzzzzle!Listed in: Pimp my Pad!

Okay now I have to give them another star because I bought a table here. I saw an expensive version at structube of a little table that goes over a couch and was on the hunt for a cheaper version. I found it here and it was even assembled. It was a little crazy trying to buy it because the store was so busy but now that I've got it home I love it.

I'm a huge fan of West Elm. The design of their products is modern and stylish, but the cost is very affordable.
Most products have to be assembled at home, similar to an Ikea, but the quality is superior to Ikea.
Tip: definitely drop in regularly as they have amazing sales. -

I do like this store. Great furniture, great bedding and accessories, and great service.
I especially love their seasonal decor options, like xmas plates, knick nacks, ornaments and pillows. Some stuff here is a bit dear, but lots of it is affordable, and better quality than Ikea. They offer flexible delivery options (for a price), but will also arrange for a pick up and help load your stuff into a van cab.
I got a kick ass lamp here last year, and I get a ton of compliments on it.
I also like that I can bring my dog here, and they don't get mad or give me the stink eye. -

Whatever you need for your apartment West Elm has you covered.
The staff is very helpful and fun, prices are comparable to IKEA.
Pieces are simple and easy to blend into your other stuff. -
Review from Tong J.
Some of their furniture pieces are pricey. If you are willing to shop around, I'm sure you can find similar and more affordable prices elsewhere.
What I love at West Elm are those beautifully designed, super soft and good quality organic cotton beddings. I bought several pieces when they were on sale. The last piece I purchased was an organic cotton summer blanket. I love that I can just throw it in a washer and dryer, easy care (very important to me).
I also appreciate that West Elm is "committed to using non-toxic dyes that are better for the planet and responsibly-harvested woods that support healthy ecosystems." -

i love visiting furniture stores and this one being close to my house is no exception in how often i visit it. it's definitely one of those stores that you cannot judge from the outside for it looks like it's pricy when in reality it's very affordable! i was pleasantly surprised when i first visited west elm for i wasn't looking for anything in particular yet i found some gorgeous candle holders for $20. I also managed to pick up some great quality bed linens at a reasonable price. the store itself has a fresh appeal, the furniture is modern and laid out stylishly. it's not disorganized like ikea where you have to pursue different levels to find what you're looking for without any help. the staff here is friendly and not pushy. they are also knowledgeable with the products if you have any specific questions such as origin and what not.
they have great accessories such as interesting lamps, picture frames, kitchen knick knacks and quirky figurines. i like how they change it up every month to keep it interesting. it's a great place to visit!Listed in: DECOR

I seem to be the only one who doesn't enjoy West Elm.
I find their prices are high for the quality and a lot of their furniture looks the same (both within the store and compared to other stores). I've also found their sales people to be quite distracted and found it quite difficult to get assistance when I had questions about a bedroom set. The first someone came over to me, said he'd be right back with (what I assumed) was more information but got hung up with someone else on his way back. The second someone came over, said she'd get someone else to come back and help me and after 10 minutes of waiting, I walked out.
I've since seen something similar at Structube so I think I'll buy from there. -

West Elm has a nice selection of transitional contemporary furniture and accessories. It's nice to have a new place to go to alongside the other chain type of furniture stores like Ikea, Crate & Barrel, Urban Barn, etc. What I really liked about WE is the service.
Upon walking in, we were greeted warmly by Jake. He asked us what we were looking and I told him the items on our long list. He was helpful without being intrusive. He popped up when we needed him and disappeared when we needed to discuss. He gave us info sheets on items we were seriously considering. He really took his time talking to us and asking about layouts and usage. And not once did we feel pressured to buy or make a decision. Best of all, he deduced that we were first time homebuyers and told us about a program WE has for us - 10-15% off if we buy multiple items. Jake was THE awesome.
We didn't buy anything from WE during this visit. But in two months, it's almost a guarantee that we will. All thanks to Jake. -

I'd like my house to look like West Elm... well, minus the open door policy and the flow of people that is. It's just got lots of cool things, from large pieces of furniture to quirky lamps, measuring cup sets in the shape of owls, teapots, trendy picnic tableware and pillow cases. And some of it is not as expensive as you'd imagine especially the decorative items.

Based upon a recommendation from a friend, my wife and I visited West Elm in search of some swanky furniture for our new place. As the other reviews noted, West Elm is a stateside import along the lines of Crate & Barrel and Z Gallerie.
The location is quite large and is laden with your stereotypical starbucks-carrying, suburb-originating, wannabe hipster, metrosexual, new-to-nudies-wearing, i'm-better-than-thou-cause-i-read-it-in-a-blog, attitude customers. But that shouldn't be a surprise - it's Liberty Village! Just kidding, I was just describing some of my friends ;) Kidding again.
Thankfully however, most of the staff here do not reflect the customers who suffer from Barthe's Juvenilization! I believe the key is getting the right staff member to help you. We lucked out and was approached by "Catherine P" who was extremely helpful and pleasant! (If you visit the store, try to seek her out - she'll take care of you, trust me!) We were never pressured into a sale and Catherine even stopped us from making an impulse buy in case the counter stools we eyed weren't the correct height. WHO DOES THAT? she definitely looks out for the customer and we appreciated that!
We're most likely going to return. Their Tillary couch is something we are seriously considering! =P -

Another US chain store has made its way past the border...I couldn't be happier!
West Elm is like the child of Ikea and Pier 1 -- it has some Pier 1 classic design with sparks of Ikea modernity at Ikea-esque prices. They carry furniture from coffee tables to bed frames, wall decor, mirrors, candles and other trinkets, tapestries like curtains and drapes, blankets, duvets, and sheet sets....basically everything you could possibly want to make your house a beautiful, wonderful home.
Everything in this store gives me the feeling of being in a warm, cozy, modern cottage. And the store interior is so beautiful that it is almost impossible to walk out of there without buying something (unless you're coming from the Liberty Village gym and have a huge gym bag to carry -- that's the only thing that stopped me).
Staff are friendly and helpful and the store is open until 7 on Sundays (later than most). Careful if you're shopping on their website - a lot of the merchandise isn't available in Canada yet and they won't ship it to the store for you so it's up to you to pay the shipping.
