Well hello there West Coast Waffles, I think I might be in love!
Friday night while having a mini-house-party with some of my Victoria peeps, a friend mentioned she'd really enjoyed The Mike Lyall (bacon, chocolate & cheese in the batter). My host and I decided we had to give it a try the next morning and so we rendezvoused at WCW for noon.
I was smitten with the savoury options and decided to order the Johnny Mac - a waffle with granny smith apples, bacon, basil and broiled brie! I also opted for the buckwheat batter since I make waffles at home and thought something different would be good for a change. My companions had the Wake n' Bacon (maple bacon, jack & cheddar cheese and green onions in the batter) and The Mike Lyall (bacon, chocolate & cheese inside). We all shared tastes of each others' meals and concluded that this was the best brunch decision we could have made. High praise in a city with so many great brunch locales!
If you find yourself in downtown Victoria, West Coast Waffles is worth the stop. These are massive belgian waffles, so bring your appetite! -

I love a good waffle and when I heard about this place that offered sweet and savoury waffles I knew we had to give it a try.
West Cost Waffles offers an assortment waffle selections but also allows you to come up with your own waffle masterpiece. The process is simple, you order from the counter, they bring out the waffle. I ordered the Ham and Swiss with Dijon.
Now the downside - waiting. We had to wait 30 minutes from the time we ordered to actually receiving the waffle, thanks to Yelp's check-in feature it's easy to find out how long it's been since you checked in to a place so 30 minutes is no exaggeration.
After the long wait the waffle arrived and yes it was very tasty. There was a drizzle of maple syrup on top that complemented the savoury just nicely, but really did it have to take so long to create?
I can understand if you have a large complicated menu but no, these are waffles. When someone enters the door can this not be the signal to put a waffle on the iron before the order?
Now my other gripe with this place - the price. My waffle came to $12 before tax and before tip, sure it's a good waffle but for $12 for order at the counter service is overpriced. And yes they ask for a tip, their POS terminal is set to ask for tips up front even though you have not experienced any of their service yet. After breakfast I should have asked for my tip money back, that would have made me popular.
So sure - fantastic product they serve here but at that price point there are much better brunch places to spend that same amount of money, Eggs Benny at Blue Fox for example is cheaper than this. -

I found this fun waffle place while strolling around Victoria looking for a quick breakfast. It's got really interesting decor, but it's also got pretty limited seating inside so make sure to check for seats and get your order to go if it's busy!
The menu is really unique for a waffle restaurant, featuring sweet, savory, and fruit items mixed in and on your waffle. The Mike Lyall comes with bacon, chocolate, and cheese cooked inside your waffle, and the salsa on the side sounds strange until you try it and it actually works really well.
I'm glad to have found this little gem, and am excited to see that they are planning a Seattle location this year. -

Pretty funky joint! What's more fun than waffles?
Alright, this place takes one of my favourite sweet breakfast foods and mixes it with some of my favourite savoury ingredients, such as BACONS! There is a selection of a few different batters. If you're not into savoury waffles (you're missing out), there's a selection of more traditional sweet ones. The decor is fun and bright. Just sitting inside is a pretty fun time, and filling your face simultaneously is a bonus.
Please bring my home a waffle. Meow.Listed in: True Comfort

My daughter and I went here because we love waffles and wanted to try a different breakfast place. The place offers 3 batters, one a gluten free option, and various fruit combos. It is a bit misleading, as I thought the fruit was added to the batter but the waffles came with the fruit on top and syrup and whipped cream added by the cooks, which turned out to be too much. :(
The waffles were uber-huge and thick, not at all crispy and pretty doughy. I couldn't finish it and left feeling nauseated. The price of $30 for 2 waffles with a side of bacon and one coffee and juice was pretty steep too.
Underwhelmed and won't be returning. -

West Coat Waffles is just amazing. I heard about this place from a friend and she said it was soooo awesome!
So when I went to victoria this weekend with my mom I told her we had to go here! When we go there the staff was very nice and cool. The music was great.
I got the Banna chocolate chip waffles which were yummmmy!!!!!
My mom got the Cinomin icing suga. Which was like, AH! OMYGAHD! Yummy.
It's just like Dessert in the morning! Nothing better than that! -

I went to West Coast Waffles yesterday afternoon after few of my friends have recommended the place. The moment I entered the store, I was greeted by two staff. Just like what other reviews say, they have a wide selection of toppings and 3 different kinds of batter. I went for the strawberries and blueberries with yogurt on original batter. I have to say, this is probably the best waffle I have ever had for while. It was warm and tasty. There was a lot of fruits on top. Even thought it cost me almost 10 bucks, I have nothing to complain about. The owner was really friendly and greeted and chatted with every customer that comes in the store even though they were just popping in to see what the store is about.
Definitely will come back for another visit if I am in town! -

I woke up this morning with a serious craving for a big, fluffy waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. As my boyfriend sadly does not own a waffle iron, we decided to venture downtown and check out West Coast Waffles.
Pros:
- DELICIOUS FREAKING WAFFLES
- Choice of batter (regular, buckwheat, or oats and spelt)
- Choice of a gazillion toppings (I had my strawberries and cream, boyfriend had smoked salmon, capers, and tomatoes)
- Choice of a bunch of syrups
- Really friendly service
- Really clean, inviting space to eat
Cons:
- Way expensive for a "cheap" breakfast. 2 waffles and 2 coffees topped $20. -

Discovered West Coast Waffles during a recent overnight trip to Victoria. Such a great concept, and would love to see something like this in Vancouver.
The waffles were huge and piled high with fresh fruit. I had a regular waffle with the blueberry and walnut topping, and my husband had the buckwheat waffle with raspberries and bananas. Oh, and whipped cream. And raspberry syrup. So good!
The waffles felt like a decadent treat, but had enough fruit to not be a completely unhealthy breakfast option. And their menu also has plenty of savoury options that looked pretty darn good too.
The guy at the front counter was really helpful, explaining the different options.
We loved it so much that in between bites my husband and I actually discussed whether West Coast Waffles would work as a franchise and whether we could open one in Vancouver.
All they need now is an espresso machine... -

Very cool environment; music ranging from The Beatles to Notorious BIG, and a menu of waffle options for everyone. The bacon/cheese waffle was delicious, and I was excited to hear future expansion to Vancouver and Seattle. I always enjoy a good breakfast spot in Seattle!

Want to crave an early morning sweet tooth? West Coast Waffles made me a fan. Bring this to Seattle! Great place for a sweet, light breakfast in downtown Victoria. We found this strolling around and ventured in for a early morning breakfast at 9am on a weekday.
So many choices of toppings, syrups, and waffle batter! I chose the sweet nutella, chocolate combo and the original batter with maple syrup. BF went for a plain waffle and maple syrup. The staff were really nice, took the time to explain, and were efficient in making it in front of you. Best part was that this was a decent fast-food sitdown place, booths and tables. The staff delivered it right to us while we picked a table and we weren't expecting that.
Waffle was crisp, not too chewy, and the toppings and syrup was awesomely tasty. Ate the whole plate clean and didn't come away too full or empty. For about $6, its a great option if you're hankering for waffles and a wide variety of sweet or savory options. -

Nice menu, I like the Gluten Free options along with the different flour combinations, and very enthusiastic staff. When we were there it filled right up in minutes and they handled with aplomb.
My criticism is that they don't have an espresso machine. For me that is very important. -

West Coast Waffles is great: fresh waffles made with your choice of three batters (White, Spelt and Rolled Oats, or Buckwheat), sweet or savoury toppings, and a whole whackload of different smoothies to start (or finish) your day. I had a Mexican Sunrise on buckwheat which consisted of scrambled eggs, salsa, cheese, spinach, and green onion. It was very good, but I found that the salsa made the waffle pretty mushy near the end (expected and forgivable).
The service was friendly and prompt, and you could tell that quality ingredients were being used. So why only three stars? Price, my friends. I know that quality food costs more, and is totally worth it, but I definitely can't afford to spend $10 on a regular basis for a single waffle with maybe 4 oz of toppings. I'll add West Coast Waffles to my list of, "For a treat," restaurants. -

Good food. The waffles are fresh and they have a good selection of toppings. I had the king salmon. Kind of an odd combination, but I figured I would combine my love for smoked salmon with my love for waffles. It worked! The sweet crepes are also quite tasty - can't go wrong with Nutella. The staff is very friendly. The portions, btw, are pretty big. So, be prepared to be full. The price is higher than I'd expect for waffles.

Victoria, as it turns out, is the new gluten-free mecca. Its actually quite embarrassing that there are more dedicated gluten free places to eat here than in Vancouver. On a recent visit to the capital city of BC, there were so many places to explore, I couldn't fit them all in in a day. Several coffee shops around the city also offer a gluten free treat to go with your coffee, and no one gives you a second glance when you ask for gluten free. (Check out the Serious Coffee and Wild Coffee chains). Anyhow,
my friend and I started with, of course, breakfast. Waffles are my favourite breakfast item, so I was eager to try out what West Coast Waffles had to offer. It turns out they have a dedicated gluten free waffle iron, which cooks up buckwheat waffles for their gluten free customers. Now, I'm not a fan of buckwheat. I really don't like the taste, and I find it leaves an undesirable aftertaste as well. These waffles were very good, and you really can't tell that they are buckwheat.
I had the mango coconut waffle, and my friend had the blackberry peach version. We both agreed that the waffles themselves were a bit dry, and needed the syrup, but we were both pleased with our meal. Way to go West Coast Waffles! -
Review from Jen A.
The non-sweet vegetarian option was ok, it would of been better if I had bought syrup on the side. It looks like they have great sweet breakfast if you are in the mood for that. The service was awkward because you pay at the counter but they bring the food to you.

As previous reviews have mentioned, there is a choice of 3 batters (one is gluten-free) and toppings can either be sweet or savoury. You can either go with a preset combination, or make your own delicacy (careful not to go overboard with your toppings as this can get quite expensive). One great thing is that some of the toppings are included IN the batter, so you get a nice littel burst of flavour! The layout almost reminds me of Yogen Fruz with the little buckets of fruits and toppings -great to see what you're getting.
The atmosphere in the place is great and inviting, a little bit hipster. The location downtown is great, plus open till 2am most nights (so great filler at almost anytime).
I have been 3 times since it's opened, opting for sweet waffles every time. The service has been friendly and great (sometimes the waffles were practical works of art, that I almost didn't want to eat... the pics are still stuck in my phone). The last time, there was a mistake with my order, I went with it (my fault) and it turns out pomegranate and peanut butter do not make a good combo. Otherwise I do love the place, but a little on the expensive side. -

This place is great! Lots of yummy-sounding savory and sweet options, three batters, and it's all made with fresh ingredients! The staff is very friendly too! Hubby and I both had the gluten free batter with bacon and cheese, delicious!
